ACTIVATION & NUMBER PORT STEPS
1. Follow the guide in my previous video on how to order the SIM starter kit ("Cleverness Kit") - • Mint Mobile Deal - Sig...
2. Your Kit should arrive in a few days
3. Get the following information from your carrier: Account Number, Account PIN, Billing ZIP, phone number you wish to port
4. When your kit arrives, go to Mint's website (phoneplan.info...) and click "Activate" toward the top right of the page
5. Enter your activation code located on back top right corner of your SIM card
6. Enter your ZIP code and click "Transfer an Existing Number"
7. Enter your current account details you got in Step 3 and click "Transfer"
8. Agree to Mint's return policy
9. Turn auto-renew OFF and SKIP your billing info ("skip for now" located at the bottom)
10. Create your account (Name, email, create a password)
11. WAIT. The porting process can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. I've had number ports take as little as 10 minutes. In this instance, my number took 72 hours to complete. My current service stayed completely fine and active until the port was complete. If you have both SIMs with you and are able to swap them out, you should have little to no gap in your service.
12. Congrats! You're now setup and active on Mint Mobile. Go to Mint's website and click "Sign in" to view and manage your account.

Question- I’m concerned about the gap in service. Your saying that I would be able to use my old sim service until the new one is activated? Are you certain? Also, how would I know when it’s time to switch? Service will go out on my old sim? Why do some ports take longer than others?

People migrating their Verizon number should know that the 4 digit PIN that was originally established with your account is not what you need to supply to Mint. There is a setting in the Verizon app called Phone number migration PIN request under security. Use this to generate a 6 digit PIN. I'm assuming this is the "PIN" you need too supply as Mint support ended up using it to finish my number migration.

Yes, you have to generate the number and is only valid for 7 days. I just did it and the process was quick. When I turned the phone back on with the new SIM card, the service was already transferred. The old voicemail app from Verizon won't work, but Mint will automatically give you a link to download a new one that is compatible with their service. This link appears when you try to open the old VM app.

A VERY important first step when you keep your old phone; request from your carrier to unlock the phone first. My number ported over to Mint successfully within minutes, but I'm now without a phone, because I'm waiting for AT&T to unlock it. This can take up to 48 hours. In the meantime, my original service is disconnected and I'm not able to activate the new SIM card. I'm slightly annoyed that AT&T casually mentioned I needed to have the phone unlocked, but failed to make a point that this needs to happen first. I guess they get sour on the break-up.

I looked at this video to just see if I did everything right and I did, thanks for the confirmation. Note that if you are with a major carrier, like AT&T the port/activation happens immediately (within 60 seconds). If you are with a non major carrier, it obviously takes longer. Just an addition to this video which is excellent.

@@rommelbautista6480 The answer is if your phone is locked or unlocked. If locked you have to contact them to get it unlocked (which they will do if your commitments to them are complete). In my case I owned my phones completely but they (AT&T) locked two of the four phones because they did not want to lose me as a long time customer. So after I moved two phones they blocked the other two. I had to do a conference call with Mint and AT&T and threaten them if they would not unlock the phones as they had no right to keep me. It was a pretty terrible experience thanks to AT&T breaking the law.

@@Buc_Stops_Here AT&T is notorious for doing that! They had locked two iphones that I bought and paid for in full at an apple store. These were fully owned by me so AT&T had no business locking these devices. It took two months and threats of litigation to finally get them unlocked. What a sleazy move by AT&T 😡

@@Romelio007 I am sorry to hear that. Yes, one of the two phones they locked I also bought at the Apple store and they had no business locking it. I am sorry to learn this has become a common practice for them. It sounds yours was worse than mine. The conference call with Mint did the trick for me as they had no recourse to keep me (although pretty pathetically they begged me to stay promising to cut my rates - I declined with the Mint person listening).

This is in the “to good to be true” bin. Be careful Folks!! The map said my area great coverage. I lasted two days. I did get a refund though, and I am thankful for that. Changing back and keeping your number a Real PIA. Good fortune to you.

@Poptart Howard When you go thru the set up as the video describes you enter your current phone number with Sprint. Then Mint ports it over and it essentially cancels your account with Sprint. If I remember correctly it worked almost immediately. I had 2 lines on my Sprint account and I ported both over to Mint. I have had for about 9 months. My bf and I each have the 8GB and my daughter has 3GB. We've never ran out of data since we spent most time on wifi. I live in the Portland OR metro area and have had consistent service without any notice issues. I highly recommend. My family lives in the country and I do not get service out there... But I didn't get it with Sprint either so it doesn't matter to me. Most of the time my provider says T-Mobile instead of Mint doesn't affect anything. I love Mint, I bought the whole year and I can't believe I haven't paid a cell phone bill in 9 months. I will definitely stay with Mint! Old Sprint bill for 2 lines (unlimited data w/ employer discount) $140 per month = $1680/year New Mint service for 2 lines (8GB each) = $480/year + 1 3GB line for $180/year = huge savings even with a 3rd line!

@@jameshoward3494 I also should mention you need to make sure you buy an unlocked phone. (Even if you ask Sprint to unlock your phone I feel like it's not the right network type. CDMA vs GSM) We went to Best Buy and bought 3 unlocked phones and a 7 day trial to start with. We decided we liked it and then ported our numbers when we bought a year of service. I know Stetson probably has a link but here is my referral link. fbuy.me/nKHlA If you use it I get $15 off my next year! Another thing I did was I purchased my daughters line, then used her referral link to buy my other 2 lines so I got $30 off her year too! So if you use my referral to buy yours then have your brother use your referral link to buy his you'll get $15 off! Check their website too they something have deals! Plus Ryan Reynolds (the actor) is a part owner or something and he leaves us voice messages! :) I think they did something for customers when COVID-19 hit in March. Like unlimited data or something nice to help (I can't remember the specifics). It was pretty cool!

Let me get this right. I noticed you added your mint sim on Nov 30 and you didn't check your online account till Dec 7th, but your account was active on Dec 3rd so basically 72 hours until you had service. WoW! Unsure if my wife will agree to that. I currently have t-mobile and the price on Mint sees reasonable, but she'll kill me if she doesn't have a phone for 3 days.

You need to contact support. Your account PIN is different from your Voicemail PIN.

I have pre-pay through them and customer service is mostly online but during business hours, which for me is hard. I made it work and it was quick. thank GOODness. Thanks again!

So I want to port one number from a family plan. How is that done without canceling the other lines?

This is possible as long as the number you want to port is not the leader of the family plan. Make sure you know which number is considered the leader of the family plan (basically the phone number of the person who created the plan and is paying the bill) and you should be able to port out any other number no problem without cancelling your plan. If you port out the number of leader of the plan, then the entire plan may be cancelled. You may also lose applicable group discounts and savings if you choose to port a number out and have fewer lines in the family plan. Hope this helps.

You should be able to port out one number just fine. I would contact your carrier for more details. Often one line is the "manager" of the account. Porting that line would close the account. But porting any of the other lined should have no impact and keep your current account active.

Just ported my number today and activation was immediate, I still had my old prepaid T-Mobile sim card in my phone just in case it would take longer but the signal bars went blank right away so I knew my Mint service was ready.

I activated mine today. The only problem is that the visual voicemail wouldn't activate on my original Pixel. I had to download the T-Mobile voicemail app so that I can get any notifications of voicemail. I couldn't get WiFi calling to work either (it worked on Google Fi), but not a big deal because it sucks my battery life to the tune of 10% per hour.

Oh gosh you probably won't even see this. Damn. I've fought for hours on and off with this crap. Im finally online but now going to activate my sim I CANNOT read all of the code! Part of it seems to have rubbed off. OMG. And that funny number glitch? Oh yeah. I had that too. Yay. Are you there? Can you save me? I've tried chatting with mint. Oh boy. So I finally got 1 of my two devices working fully. 1 I was having a bit of issues with. I decided to take the SIM card out of the defective one & put it in my phone & when it didn't help I switched it back. Now the phone that wasn't working is working but the phone that was working isn't working now. It asks me for my password every time I go to make a call, but the issue is my password has capitalized letters and lowercase letters and special characters as they instruct you to create one this way.. so how can I actually make a call if I'm having this issues? Any help would me amazing since I have dialysis first thing in the morning & would love a working phone while there.

What you called a bug in their program was actually a good validation. Area codes cannot start with a one. only 2-9. I agree it should have yelled at you, but at least it didn't allow you to enter an invalid area code.

I brought over my mothers metropcs line to Mint and it ported in about less than 5 minutes, I purchased a sim and will be porting in from tello and I feel like it’ll take longer for my port in.

Yes, I think time varies depending on which networks you’re switching between. T-Mobile to Mint both use the T-Mobile network, so it makes sense it was fast. Verizon to Mint took me 3 days. Sprint to Mint will likely take longer as well.

You would have to call them and find out. Lots of variables like was your phone paid off with them, was your contract period up, were you current on payments etc.

With Mint mobile my data was used up very quickly now using Visible $25 a month unlimited talk text 5G with hotspot..... Mint mobile $15 a month it's only for 3 months after that it will be $70 4gb a month

Just double checking that I should NOT insert the new Mint sim card until AFTER receiving email confirming that activation is complete. Is this correct? I don't want to have a gap in service. Thanks for video and advice.

Yes. If you’re transferring your phone number, your current SIM card will be active until the number transfer is complete. To avoid a gap in your service, wait for the transfer to complete before inserting your Mint SIM card. Or if you notice calls or messages have stopped working on your current SIM, that means your Mint SIM is likely now active. Hope this helps.

So, at this point, you've paid already for your contract or however many months and GB, right? So then your account number would be your Mint Mobile new account number then, right? And your account number is the same if you do not renew your contract at the end of your period, and get a different carrier for some period? If you leave and come back do you still have the same account number and can you use the same SIM chip? This sounds pretty cool.

Yes, Sprint has to unlock you phone if it is paid for. If your still on the lease plan...nope. This is LAW. Now, Sprint uses CDMA and not GSM. You will have some minor but !@#$ issues from time to time. Best to use a GSM phone.... Mint rocks and I could not be more happy, Go you Foxy little thang.

Nice Presentation. But as of me writing this, it is mid April 2021 --- 2 and a half years after this was made. The material you show here looks similar, but is different too. Did I understand it took ALL WEEKEND to have your phone work with the Mint Sim Card? That's pretty bad. Thanks for the run thru. Hopefully it will help when my Mint Mobile Sim Cards gets here.

You can keep the same $15, $20, or $25/month rates by signing up for their 12 month option. Otherwise yes, their one month rates are expensive.

On my 1st day of my second month in my mint three month prepaid plan I got cut off from calls, texts, and data, after reporting to their CS team that my high speed data didn't renew. I didn't have service for about 5 hours. Has anyone else experienced this? They said it was a mint server outage but I am more inclined to believe it was an issue specific to my account.

I'm getting conflicting info.. some ppl are saying I need a temporally transfer pin while others say I just need the account pin. Is this the account pin when you call that you have to enter in when you call to talk to someone? Or do I need that temporary transfer pin after all?

Short answer: *you need the temporary transfer PIN* Previously, you needed the account PIN. Now, you need the temporary transfer PIN. The temporary transfer PINS are new (came out after I recorded this video). Carriers introduced the temporary transfer PIN as a way to help prevent SIM-swap attacks. These are scams where the attacker attempts to port your phone number to another provider without authorization, and then use your phone number to access your bank accounts, crypto wallets, and other sensitive information secured with your phone via 2FA.

I have T-Mobile service, but it’s the prepay pay as you go with value refill cards were charged per minute per text so I don’t get a bill and don’t know where I would find my account number or pin because I’ve never even thought about looking or had to set anything up. When I log into my T-Mobile account online I don’t see an account number or anything that’s listed. Also, if I wanted to use the trial to make sure it works in my area, I would order the trial starter pack, and then if I wanted to use the buy three months get three months or the normal $15 a month promotion do I order a regular second set of sims pack? This way I would be hoping to use the referral credit, or bill credit plus I know a lot of cash back portals give a good amount cash back when being a return customer or ordering service that is not a trial starter pack.

Quite a few years ago I had an ATT landline number. If ATT has not given the number to someone else, will it be possible to port that number. I do remember the phone # but have no idea what my account or pin # might have been. Thx for any help.

My porting experience from At&t postpaid to Mint was quick and easy. Sidenote: I called Mint to get my account number and PIN for my records. I was transferred twice by the rep and was on hold for 20 minutes. Not a positive first experience with Mint's customer service. I already had plans to switch to AT&T Prepaid 8GB promo though.

SAME! When I went to switch from Mint to US Mobile (to try out US Mobile’s new $40 unlimited plan), I was also on hold for ~12 mins, transferred, put on hold for ~5 mins again, finally another rep picked up, took the time to pitch me Ultra Mobile, and then FINALLY gave me my porting info. 😤 Loved Mint’s plan & service, but their CS needs work.

@@StetsonDoggett I agree. Definitely some room for improvement. I changed my mind on switching to AT&T Prepaid right now and will give Mint a try for 3 months. Hopefully the service doesn't disappoint! :)

When they ask for your PIN from your previous carrier do they mean the PIN you set up with the previous carrier for general use or a special port PIN ?

I have two phones to use. One is a rugged design and it is rather difficult to use the sim tray. I use this for working out on the farm. Then I have a fancy city phone, which I use in town or when driving. Would it be possible to get two sims cards, on the same number? Then I won't have to grapple with my field phone.

In the olden days, porting numbers took up to a week, so I chuckled when you were like, "Two whole hours have passed..."! Wonder if you could have just slammed your old SIM back in and used the previous carrier until porting goes through??
