I had T-mobile and switched to Mint nearly 4 years ago. The only real-world difference I've noticed is the $2400 I've saved over the last 4 years. 🤑 Oh, and I get a funny Christmas card from Ryan Reynolds every year too.😀
Makes sense.. you DO get what you pay for. Personally, I don't have a problem with Mint Mobile's speeds and I've had them as my main line for years. If you want the fastest speeds, highest priority and uninterrupted data, better dig deep into pockets cuz it ain't cheap! Lol
@@toptiertech7291 yeah I know. But my phone isn't compatible with visible, 7t pro 5g McLaren Edition. I use the Mint wholesale APN setting because I use an app that only loads up with this setting, but I found that the T-Mobile,fast, APN setting gives me faster speeds. Plus I already paid the 12 month plan of unlimited data.
@@toptiertech7291 speak of the devil, i have spotty coverage in town now. The same place where I used to receive bars, I know struggle to receive signal. The worst part? I paid $380 for a yearly subscription of unlimited data. No refund. I feel like selling my sim card and transferring the number to AT&T
Very nice comparison, i have always wondered about that and how they treat mint data. Might be good to do a speed test using the hotspots on the phone?
I’m considering switching my phone to Mint but leaving my wife and brother on T-mobile. Mint’s “unlimited “ plan for 30 bucks a month is a ridiculous deal in my opinion I don’t need all the free stuff. I like it, don’t get me wrong T mobile Tuesdays are awesome to wake up to, but when I can save about half the cost for Mint versus T mobile for essentially the same service there aren’t a lot of downsides to me. I did Mint’s free 7 day trial to see how the signal strength compared and it was almost identical, with mint actually getting better service( which was weird) versus T mobile.
I was an AT&T 'grandfathered' customer for years being assured many times my plan was priced nice AND had fast data speeds. After switching to Mint Mobile my data speed is up around 50% and service bars max out most of the time and def more than before. If you need to do 188mph on the Autobahn then go ahead and spend those $$$ but if you just like to cruze at 90 on the freeway then Mint is a wayyyyy better deal
256 QAM is currently the fastest network modulation and about 33% faster than 64 QAM, which is used more commonly, especially in the Uplink. So it's pretty amazing from t-mobile that they use this modulation.
Man I regret paying for Mint Mobile unlimited plan for 12 months. After the first month of unlimited, I began to experience dead spots. Dead spots were before I used to get great reception. Sometimes my bars drop completely from 5g to 4g to 2g to no service at all. Kind of weird considering the fact that Mint runs off T-Mobile satellites.
It really depends on where you live. Mint Mobile's data speeds are slow inside my house, but are much faster when I leave. I use WiFi at home so it's not a big deal. I haven't experienced dead spots though. That would be a bummer.
Did you have T-Mobile before you switched to Mint? I did and I pretty much have exactly the same reception that I did when I was on T-Mobile. If you're coming from Verizon or AT&T that's a different story though.
less ping can make a much bigger difference. Weird how just 2 phones change speeds when thousands are connected at once. Makes you wonder if the extra money for max is actually worth it.
I used to have the T-Mobile 55+ plan which is also supposed to be deprioritized. The speeds on that plan were more more consistent than Mint but not necessarily better. I feel like some days Mint actually performs better than T-Mobile 55+ and other times it's slower than T-Mobile 55+.
FYI, you don't receive access to most roaming towers when on a prepaid network. So the coverage is always better when on postpaid. Postpaid customers have access to some other carrier's towers when roaming outside the Tmobile network. T-Mobile is charged a fee from other carriers for this access.
The thing that needs to be clarified on this is IS IT NECESSARY? Like will someone notice the difference? More than likely not when you're web browsing. Apps usage. etc. Maybe PUBG or fortnite but overall not noticeable
I think you and many people are looking at this the wrong way. Any connection getting a solid, reliable, 100mb/sec+ down is going to handle what 90%+ of the public uses their phones for without issue. Knowing that, the conversation then turns to what each service costs where Mint obviously shines. Its like driving a Ferrari or a Honda Accord in traffic. The Ferrari has crazy performance specs, but the less sexy Honda will accomplish the job just as well (given the scenario) while saving the owner a couple hundred grand. Deprioritization is the only thing that can screw up that equation, but I've seen very little of it most of the time on my Mint account.
I am looking to move off of AT&T and T-Mobile Network is my current front runner (device compatibility is almost identical so no need to change phones). Frankly for what I do with a phone the speeds that Mint is getting even when de-prioritized is more than enough. I just wonder what is the "Gotcha" on why anyone would go with the T-MO version vs. the Mint version?
@Shadow The Black Cat I love my OnePlus 7T (yes not 5G and not iPhone). Frankly if my OnePlus 3T had not committed suicide 2 years ago I would still be using it ;)
Honestly Stetson I think the T-Mobile 5G beat mint Mobile because T mobile because honestly I have to moto g stylus 5G on Metro by T-Mobile and as I saw from the T-Mobile speed test itself I'm actually getting the exact same exact 5g speeds and 5G performance which is the same as the actual T-Mobile speed test on the right though so I'm actually getting the exact same 5G speeds T-Mobile themselves is getting on Metro which I never really expected that though so my speeds are literally copying T-Mobile with the download speeds in the upload speed so it's I honestly T-Mobile itself is very fast and I like how they gave that spectrum to Metro to give people access to 5G with them including myself even though my area has the ultra capacity 5G which is right aligned with T-Mobile directly with what you showed with the speeds from them
That's a shame. T-Mobile 5g UC download speeds are 50 mbps and 5g is 25 mbps. I pay $90 a month. T-Mobile 5g and 5g UC is extremely slow. I have not tried it in a rural area. Only I urban areas and suburban areas. So slow. Can't even get 75 Mbps.
Not really A fair test magenta also costs $85 a month for an individual individual versus $30 a mind for unlimited mint. It's almost like comparing a USDA prime rib eye steak versus a sirloin lol, They're both still good but one's better 🤣
I'm on the Tello network via T-mobile. I got 533 down and 48 up at the Akron Zoo in Ohio. My phone is only compatible with the Sub-6GHz 5G and not the faster mmWave 5G band.
@@TheZbadam1 I think with Mint it's similar with US Mobile where they use their own portal to distribute the tmobile service which is why the ping and latency is much higher.
