A bittersweet set for the family and friends of the community that surrounds Tiny Sounds. Minuano is one of the staple math rock bands to have been a part of the local central Texas diy/emo scene. Frontman Alex De Los Santos played a major role in bringing local emo bands, fans, and listeners together. Alex and the band were a massive piece to the puzzle that helped built the community we have now. We are so happy to have recorded the final performance from them.
Alex left us with some words about what the band has meant to him over the years:
“Honestly- Minuano was my introduction to everybody and what feels like everything lol…If it wasn’t for Minuano, I wouldn’t have met so many amazing people - Tiny Sound folx included 😛 - truly, some of my closest friends have been through this band.
Garvin, Jerahn, and I played together for a couple years beforehand- it was all songs I wrote and had them fill out the sound, and after some convincing I got them to commit to being in a emo (-esque at the time) band. It was the first time I was really pushing and learning how to get shows, what it means to “network,” how to socialize like a regular person in general honestly; what writing an EP and album takes; what recording at someone’s house and a legit studio is like.
I think what I noticed is the biggest difference between me now and then is that the band gave me a level of self-confidence and perseverance I don’t think I ever had before or ever saw myself having honestly.
I owe this band, my friends family, and the Austin DIY community basically who I am today.
Thanks to Jerahn Kemp, Garvin Lau, Kyle Berryman, Mike Garza, Carlos Cartagena, and Will Gore for writing and playing these sad songs with me.”
