I agree with everything except the extension part: yes it is true that when done incorrectly and taken care of poorly you will see the opposite effect but when you do them yourself (instead of heavy handed stylist whose only interest is to get you out the chair as fast as possible) you will see the benefit. The extension acts as a "casing" to you hair allowing it to go longer without manipulation similar to threading (except this is more socially acceptable in the US). The extensions allow you to wash your hair in them and cleanse the scalp so that it remains fresh. When I do braids and twists without it they last for barely a month and I end up putting in for more manipulation to take them out and re-style, When learning to do them yourself you are much more gentle and get to learn and love your hair. The tradeoff to spending hours on hair and not having to re-manipulate it for months is worth it. This routine works for the smaller braids imo. This allows me to retain 1" per month. Black hair and its regimen is like a fingerprint it's all different to us :)

4:12 creams have oils in them already, so when you use liquid/ cream/oil (LCO method)and the C/O part, you are adding twice as much oil as you think you are putting in your hair.

I’m well aware and I’m very aware of how much oil I’m putting in my hair. For me and my hair, oils have been great at helping to retain moisture. The major issue is improper use of oils. A lot of the people demonizing oils used to put them on their bone dry hair… that’s just silly. It’s like putting oil on dry skin and expecting to be, “MoIsTuRiZeD”. Moisture comes from water and oil in conjunction with hydrating products can create a beautiful equilibrium. Even straight haired RU-vidrs sing the praises of oiling and they have beautiful hair to back it up. To each their own but I’m not hopping on that “oil-free” bandwagon.

@@EfikZara +1 agreed. It took me hair thinning to figure out the oils were drying my hair out even when I did the lco method that's because oils give you a false moisturizing feel to your hair. It makes the hair break from dryness. For my lifestyle the raw oils/raw butters didn't work for me bc I don't want to wash my hair every week to reapply the lco. I use water and creams. I were my hair in braids. And I wear it out sometimes when It's time to rebraided it. Your right 👍. Oils/butters work if you do it right. I have seen long naturals on RU-vid who who use LCO. 💕

I come from black parents and my hair is mid back length and I never used oils or butters...So that is very interesting....I watch family members use them and some had long hair and some didn't 🤷🏽‍♀️...I just was taught to take care of my hair by wash,condition,leave-in and sometimes a mousse put it in twists or braids...I do it every week...

another thing about using essential oils, they can be harmful when used without proper knowledge (burning your scalp, having allergic reactions) and sometimes they dont do anything but smell good. I personally like them for their anti microbial and fungal effects; oil and essential oil just makes me feel cleaner. ive been using it this way for awhile and my hair feels fine and I like the way it smells. its pretty cheap for me to do and if I try something new I always err on the side of caution and check if im allergic + be careful not to use to much of something and harm yourself severely (including formulated infused products)
