That's what I thought too lol. To think they saw Dr after Dr and no one helped, that she could have been like this for a very long time, to see all it took was 2 weeks of specified intensive brain training is amazing!
Otto von Bismarck That has zero relation to anything here, what is wrong with you? Go to the political videos if you want to discuss politics. It's that simple.
@Otto von Bismarck exactly. People HATE the truth cause it hurts their feelings. All this crap is political unfortunately but I learn that, sure it's immoral but it's a fact
Otto von Bismarck while I agree that the peace prize has been controversial, there different Nobel prizes for different categories. You’re talking about the peace prize but there’s also a Nobel prize in Physiology and Medicine.
It literally is. He scanned her brain and found out there was damage. she needed cognitive therapy which is what they are giving her now and this is the fix that you get taught in low grade healthcare education
I think the main problem is just the lack of information being passed around, we know that the doctors in Utah knew/found out what the problem was because they specialize in brain damage and stuff but the other doctors obviously didn’t have as much knowledge most likely because they don’t specialize or work in that type of thing.
a roast that's entirely justified. all the other doctors they saw had access to the same equipment , knew the same diagnostics, and could have determined exactly what was going on.
My daughter suffered trauma to her brain, she would reset every few minutes. After 2 weeks she slowly started regaining her memories. It was the scariest 2 weeks of my life. I feel for this story.
@David Christian They are high school kids, she was a junior and didn't finish the year. Her friends would have and gone one to grade 12, and getting ready for life after. So what would they talk about, she doesn't know them, or what they did together, she has no memory of them. They couldn't even go out for ice cream, because if her memory resets, then what, she wouldn't know them and could walk away, that's kind of risky. It would be a hard enough situation for adults to handle, a teenager? As for her boyfriend, same thing, not much of a relationship there, no memories, and they are only kids...
Doctors: it’s completely idiopathic, so we put a bandaid on, we’re hoping for a full recovery. Utah Doctor: the brain scan revealed that after the concussion, areas of her brain weren’t working, but through our therapy we can fix it.
One of my best childhood friends had an IQ of 148. Destined for great things. Being stuck upside down with his head under water in a car for 15-25 minutes changed all that. Traumatic Brain Injury. His short term memory resets every 5-15 minutes. If you mention my name he knows who that is but he no longer recognizes me as that person as we've aged. His injury was more severe. Mobility and motor control issues, seizures and he only speaks when prompted and with difficulty. I'm very happy for this young girls progress.

Notcho Business I can vouch for that. I basically quit university in British Columbia because taking Liberal Studies is a requirement to get a diploma/degree now, and it’s literally just a class to make you support Liberalism, LGBT, 20+ genders and all that stuff. People who don’t believe in that (and have every right to) literally get punished and scolded by the teacher for slander and prejudism, or end up with a failed grade altogether. Some people can’t continue a relationship because the person with the memory issue won’t know the person like they never existed that’s why they said she lost her junior year etc.
Ooohhh that's why she didn't attend my wedding, makes sense to me now :) I regret calling her all those names back then, but it's OK, she won't remember them anyways :)

@@kate-zh4ny Agreed. This is coming from my own experiences with maintaining past friendships with their terrible memory. There was nothing wrong with them at all, but the fact that they don't remember hurts because it lets me know they don't care. Her case is different since it was an accident so I guess it's kinda unfair for them to leave? There's really no win to this situation. People can grow frustrated or weary. Can't really blame them but it's not her fault this happened either.
And she retained her memories from up until that day, so she didn't forget about them and their time together. They could at least check up on her every once in a while or with her parents out of concern instead of disconnecting completely. It's not as if she completely forgot who they were, and she could check their text messages to know they were still there for her. They didn't even wait for the possibility of her recovery.
It's sad but speaking from personal experience when you start suffering from health issues that people don't understand, you learn really quickly who is truly in your life and corner. I lost all my friends but one after my health issues started. It was a lesson learned,a painful one,but no less a lesson on people and who you can truly count on. Really shows true colors of your friends and family. I do feel very sorry for her though because she didn't deserve to lose her friends and boyfriend over something she has no control over!
Maybe or maybe not. I mean imagine how hard it could be on them watching someone you care about deteriorate, not being able to interact with them the way you normally do, them forgetting everything that happened constantly and having to retell it all. Etc. They are just kids too, you can't expect them to understand how to handle or cope with something serious like that. It really just depends how the situation went down. We're not in a position to judge anybody based off the miniscule amount of information we know.
Michael Ortiz wow, you speak like a guilty man. Let me tell you what you do when loved ones are sick, you give up anything and everything to stand by them. I did for several loved ones. NJ FG when people are chronically ill, and this counts as “ill” they get tired of waiting for the old you to come back, they get tired of you being sick and needing help and she needed a lot of hemp. Imagine being a 16yr old who can’t remember anything past 2 hrs and basically repeats herself each time asking what? Where? Who? Why? ... I speak from experience of being ill and losing friends. But for many they just can’t handle it. Can’t handle the change they see in the person the know or feel like they once knew..
This reminds me of my experience with the medical system, finding a doctor who actually knows how to identify and treat complex medical problems truly is a miracle, there’s so many doctors who are useless and tell you there’s nothing wrong with you or just shrug and give up due to your problems complexity. I believe that when they were showing her friends, her homecoming, etc.... and her mother saying she “lost” all of them, she was referring to her daughters memory of those people and those events. Without our memories of past events, it would like we “lost” them.
The mother goes on and on about how she lost social events and friends and a bf. My mom would have flipped out about me not remembering math and science 😭😭

There’s a young lady in Greensboro NC that this happened to, her memory was only seconds long. This rehab was mildly helpful but what really started her gaining healing was a special chiropractic treatment from a doctor in another state. After a couple years of treatments she’s improved enough to have a job, get her GED, and feel more comfortable and independent. It’s a fascinating experience and not just something that simply applying basic scientific knowledge can fix,as every TBI is different.
This just goes to show you how many doctors didn't focus on ALL aspects of the human body enough and care just about their salaries. THIS is exactly why im going to study the human body in order to help people like this young lady get back to as close to a regular life as possible. Nothing is impossible if you ignore every single opportunity. Much love to this doctor for understanding this issue.

For those upset about her “losing” her friends.....I’m sure that statement meant they were lost due to her memory loss....as in..,she just doesn’t remember who they are. Not that they are not her friends anymore.
yea, I wouldn't count on that. it seems like a nicer way to look at it up front. But when a person suddenly has something wrong with them, people don't deal very well. I lost all but two friends the year my disability suddenly got worse. One of those two friends left a few years later. he wasn't able to handle being around my disability any more and even blamed me for it. I've got one friend left. If you go to places where people with disabilities chat and compare stories like I have, you'll see that same trend over and over. People don't like anyone who isn't normal. If you don't fit into their idea of a happy, perfect little world then they don't want to be around you. it depresses them I guess. I'm happy with my one friend though. I can trust her, at least, when I know i can't trust anyone else to stick around. :)
@@adiarainfoster You basically summed up ANTIFA with that "If you don't fit into their idea of a happy, perfect little world then they don't want to be around you" quote.
@@SergeantExtreme Hmm idk. Kind of I guess? I only learned about what ANTIFA is last year. I don't usually follow stuff like that. But they seem more like armed thugs to me. More like home grown terrorists who are just as likely to BEAT someone down if that person doesn't fit into their view of the world. If they haven't already, I won't be surprised to find they are killing people. But that's more extreme that what I was talking about on my initial comment. Most people don't want what they perceive to be "drama" or "extra baggage." It's a common theme in people's lives when they are living with disabilities. Healthy people don't know how to deal with people who aren't healthy. They don't know what to say. The feel awkward even being around you. Just looking at you brings them down. So in the end they go off and leave you behind. Not for anything you did personally, but because you aren't "normal" anymore. The websites I go to where disabled people share with each other how their disabilities work and how it is to live with them mostly see that same trend. One girl in England actually got beaten in the middle of a night club because she was in a wheelchair. It was on their news. The beating was an extreme example. Most people settle for giving you dirty looks and friends just decide to leave since you are now more trouble than you are worth. At least that last bit is how it feels to the ones being left behind. It's a way to make us feel less than human, though I doubt that's actually the intention. The decision to stop being friends with someone who becomes disabled has less to do with the disabled person and more to do with their own personal comfort.

Hey when you're in high school, you hardly know what to major in, let alone to stay with a girl that who's knows how long they've been actually going out for.
It's not possible to have a real relationship with somebody who has a condition like hers. It's completely unreasonable to expect somebody to stay through that. If I'm ever severely brain damaged I don't want people wasting their lives on me.

This is awesome. I have an old friend who had a few concussions and suffers from cognitive dissonance. It tore our friendship apart sadly (granted I regrettably burnt the bridge) . It was exercises that stimulate activity in that part of her brain that wasn’t “firing up”, so that takes research, and skill, not just any exercise will do.
As the previous comment said, it's not just any exercise in any sequence, and it's not just playing memory games I can't speak much about it since I don't have enough knowledge, but I was once studying psychology for 2 years and it's definitely a complex thing, it wouldn't have work just doing that in her home, there is involved a lot of studies Kinda like a manual, you can do what the manual says, but if you don't do it properly, step by step in order, and with studies or exames to throw answers, the result won't work

That’s good science. After my concussions, the concussion clinic at the military hospital here did the same types of treatment (I recognize a machine) especially in the vestibular therapy clinic. It was by far the best treatment for my concussion, hands down.
Her friends aren't "fake" it's just that some people can’t continue a relationship because the person with the memory issue won’t know the person like they never existed that’s why they said she lost her junior year etc.
More likely is that they said she lost her junior year because she was constantly going to see one doctor or another and got no help. Can’t participate in school activities if you are always gone, can’t participate in class if you can’t remember anything you learned. As far as the “friends” go, they vast majority of what people consider friends growing up are merely forced acquaintances due to where your parents happen to live. A true friend would be there throughout the entire ordeal. I have friends I can not talk to for years and we pick right back up where we left off, like we just talked last yesterday. They live all across the country and we haven’t seen each other in nearly twenty years. Doesn’t matter.
“They released her she was fine”...”she wasn’t” well at least she has a chance at a clean slate every few hours and that boyfriend she had wasn’t worth the trouble. She deserves to be happy and healthy and not remember the trauma of life
