i love johns teachings and i have listened to them many times but on this i have to say, he didnt do justice to the first passage he read, the verse is SO CLEAR in any translation that 'THESE SIGNS WILL ACCOMPANY THOSE WHO BELIEVE' if jesus was indeed talking about the 12 he would have used a different pronoun than THEY
Context is King, wouldn't you agree? Further on in that passage it talks about they will pick up snakes and they will drink deadly things and not be harmed. So if this were the case today a so-called spiritually gifted miracle believer could chuck down a pint of Clorox bleach and not be harmed or a pint of cyanide and not be harmed or pick up a cobra and be bitten or a poisonous asp and not be harmed. We know this is just not the case today. So contact is always important.
John MacArthur is a great teacher of the word’s of God. The Truth turns on the light and thought’s that use God’s word to twist it for something that they think makes them look good live in darkness.

I am so happy for this teaching. We definitely not need the miracles to be saved except the miracle itself that makes us become children of God and slaves of righteousness. That is marvelous in itself. I love the word slave because it describes our relationship with christ very good. "Very good" is not enough to describe how good it is. Praise God for our safety with him who holds us in his hands!

A few years ago, I briefly attended a church that was being run by the family of someone that I met at college. It was a Pentecostal church. At the time, I knew nothing about how wrong and harmful charismatic theology really is. My experience at that church was absolutely terrible and this person who had invited me to attend turned out to be an abusive person. Although I have not spoken to this person in years, they are still stalking me to this day and have enlisted anyone they can to help them (my family members, ex friends, ex partners, and anyone else they can get to help them harass me). I'm sick of it. The best thing that came out of that situation was that I started to question many charismatic teachings I had always been taught and my perception of charismatic churches changed. Also, I'm grateful for sound doctrine and how my relationship with God has matured and grown in part due to that experience and unlearning so many wrong things. Still, please pray for me because I am so tired of what being connected to that charismatic church/that person has put me through.
I see God healing any people and delivering many oppressed people from demons and sickness. You are right about the gifts but God does more without the gifts because He is present in our lives today as we believe and lay our hands on the sick they are healed. Mark 16
As you rightly said, "you are right about the gift". Pastor John here is not denying that God can use any of His children to perform miracles or a miracle, but the gift such as that which was given to the apostles to accompany or confirm their preaching died with them. And this my friend is backed by scriptures. (Acts 2:22; 14:3). Some believe the gift of healing and some other sign gifts are no longer operative today, while others believe the miraculous gifts are still in use today. Of course, the power to heal was never in the gifted person himself/herself. The power to heal is from God and God alone. Stay Blessed.

At the level he is I don't think it is wise to spend so much time preaching against the healings taking place or emphasizing at the disappearance of the healings when we are living in a world that needs healings and deliverances from the demonic oppression. I have heard him many times labelling praying in tongues as gibberish, 1 Corinthians 14:14, 1 Corinthians 14:2, - 4, Romans 8:26-27, does imply and implicitly states that there is something called praying in tongues. Hi, I respect brother Mac Arthur very much, but can you explain this verse Marc 16:16 first, then 15-18. Is Jesus Christ a liar? No, brother. But we make mistakes sometimes but not Jesus. Same Jesus who healed people, he is still the same Heb 13:8 YESTERDAY, TODAY, and FOREVER. He hasn't changed. James 1:17 Speak in tongues 1Cor14. Rom 8:26 Please read these verses again, again, again, again and again..... till you get it. Despite we have grey hairs, and teaching to others, we will still learn from the Spirit of God. Thank you for confirming that for me i needed to know why there tongues and miracles in every church but i never saw a miracle for my self unless i was alone it began to rain no clouds on a flat land clear sky poyring rain for no reason but for me to stop and take that in and with testimony
Thank you Father for Your Truth, tongues is a sign for the unbelievers, not for me. Years ago when I was young the ministry of my pastor his wife didn’t like his wife pushing tongues. Their was dishonest to her husband from jump street . She was in her middle age. We went to a Christian retreat which she headed it was summertime so on her spare time she wore a bikini, at the time I didn’t realize my husband fell for her. Later when we got home they both talked on the phone every night so I confronted him and he said he loved her, shortly my pastor put a Stop to this. Later her realtor lady friend tryed a healing on the realtors daughter and it didn’t Work. I believe there hearts were in the right place, however it wasn’t Gods will but there’s. I no longer dabble with tongues, I read and study the Word and what a joy!! I’m 75 now and ready for whatever our God has in store for me. I thank you Father God for any discipline you do for fine tuning me to bring honer and Glory for you. I love you Father God , love luba 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
First, I am a fan of MacArthur Bible studies. It is always best to check out what some of these people are teaching when watching various video's. Some of them "seem" to know what they are talking about. Have your Bible and pencil and paper ready. Scriptures quite often are incorrect as to location. Names will be wrong. Time lines will be strange. And "their" Hebrew will just be wrong😅. They are just cranking out video's for whatever reason I don't know. I appreciate all you do Mr MacArthur. You have helped me greatly in my journey through the Bible. "And after you've been there ten thousand years a million or two, look for me for I will be there too."
You preach this in front of folks in the church I grew up as a kid, you'd probably get booted out. I am in my 40s and when I go visit, I still feel awkward when someone who's presiding tells me that "I have to" be joyous and sing 'loud' to the Lord. Or in previous times, three or four guys would grab me and shake me, push me, shove me, yelling: "RECEIVE THE HOLLY GOST, IN THE NAME OF ....". AND SPEAK IN TONGUES, IN THE NAME OF..." I honestly felt like there was something wrong with me. I didn't fit in with the church, and I didn't fit in with the World. When I got older I went through many types of addictions. Who's fault is it?? Nobody's really. Now I know I live in a fallen nature. And the Spirit of God is solely in His Word.
I appreciate you sharing this, as I'm involved in a Pentecostal church right now and am exploring other views on the main UPC/WPF doctrines, like their views on oneness and tongues. I know this video has been up for a while, but I'm hoping someone can address my question. I understand the point he's making that tongues were a sign given to Jews for the sake of unbelievers (Gentiles), and that that would explain why the gift ceased around 70 A.D. There is one scriptural issue I have with this, and that is with Cornelius. He was the first Gentile to convert to the Christian faith as a result of Peter's preaching. He and his servants received the gift of the Holy Ghost, and it says that the apostles heard them speak with tongues and glorify God (Acts 10:46). How does a Gentile speaking in tongues in the book of Acts match up to John MacArthur's teaching?
Only one question, if tongues were only gifted to the apostles, and not disciples, then why does Paul say to them that they pray well, referring to the saints praying in tongues during the church meeting, but then gave them proper order for them to do it in, as the gift is subject to the believer, for the purpose of maximum edification to all...
Miracles are signs and wonders , if you seek signs you’ll find them not , if you believe and don’t seek you’ll have them , that’s a previous promise from God’s word , seek favor with man and you’ll not have favor with God or man but if you seek favor with God you’ll have favor with God and man . Worship the creator and not the creature , we are in a dark age to say because our trust is in men , namely men of God . I’m grateful we have men of God, but we have to work out our salvation , if we don’t work we don’t eat , our pastor can’t drag us to heaven no matter how tight we hold to his coat tails , strengthen that which remains , always look to the word of God and don’t put much importance in yourself , for your value is in Christ , not in men

There is clear instruction that these gifts, healing, prophesying an tongues were all done in part. That means temporary. It says that when the perfect is come these things done in part will cease. The 'perfect' is in neutral gender which is referring to the completed Bible. Last tongues was in 56ad, and last healing was 70ad. When Jesus saves a person He does not cause them to speak in tongues and use a chaotic emotional event. This is caused by a different spirit who takes opportunity to enter when false teaching is present.

He is talking about personally instilled gifts of healing. He is saying that healing is now found in prayer and preaching, not through supernatural ability gifted to a single person. You're misrepresenting what Macarthur said.
Nowhere does the Bible say the signs passed when the Apostles were gone. The church today needs God. The fullness of God, The power of God. In the last days there will be a form of Godliness but deny the POWER THEREOF. We have a lot of dead churches with no power. The signs will follow, and do follow those that believe. The problem is there are very few people nowadays that really believe.
Did you two even listen to the sermon? Peter and Paul raised people from the dead. When was the last time you saw anyone Pentecostal raise someone from the dead?

I respect John very much, but I think on this he is compromising. 1. .mark 16 It is was about "those who believed the message of the apostles " - not about the 11 apostles since they were sent out to spread out the message - they were already believers. Almost undetected twist on words (unfortunately it was done intentionally) .... 2. Bases on this video clip- the preaching followed by miracles "were" for non-christians back in apostles days and it was necessary for them in order for the unbelievers to believe the message. Today is NO longer necessary because now "we have the Bible". Right?! That is true, we do have the Bible but the unbeliever don't believe or go by the Bible. They do not care much for the theoretic lectures political or religious message of all kinds . Thousands of religions and gurus out there.( i am Wondering, don't we need the same established method "a preaching follow by signs and miracles"? It is a real practical and Christ like thing - consistent with what Christ did and the early Christians did . We are preached Sunday by Sunday and thought that we need to be "like Christ" and follow Christ's example!!! - But when it comes to really follow Christ example then you become a heretic and of the devil. (Oh that is true Christ was called that too) The apostles did follow Christ example didn't they?) Don't we need to prove that what we preach is true - like Christ and the apostles? Will an unbeliever use the Bible to verify if your message is true and if it is doctrinal and truly Baptist? - WHO CARES!!!! . (The unbeliever does not know the Bible to verify if your preaching is doctrinally correct. He ONLY cared to know what the Word can do OR does for him/her. CAN IT DELIVER what it do what it says it will do-??? What unbeliever can verify if his/her sins were forgiven? None!! Christ did forgave the sins but also physically healed that man saying "take your bed and walk" so you know that the son can forgive and heal. Christ delivered, healed and saved. The same Christ and the same anointing of the Holy Spirit os in you. He is the same today and forever. The question is - why are we talking down the works of Christ in the believers and the life given spirit of God in us. ? The Pharisees just talked, condemned and criticizes Christ and those who followed his example. I am afraid that no very much changed since Christ's time. I love the doctrines of salvation and the Bible but at one point we need to reflect Christ that lives in us in His fulness. Im not sure. I dont know the man but it seems to me that he thinks he has more authority then the pure, unadulterated Word of God. God is working in Macarthur's church, which is in all truth Christ's church. A major problem today is that many proclaiming christians have a twisted, selfish understanding of how God works.

@@josephknight1934 I don't have more authority than any human being I don't need that, however I have authority over all the powers of the enemy Luke 10:19, this authority is manifested when we not only preach the undiluted word of God but when God confirms His Word through the demonstration of power, just as the Lord Jesus did and by the way is still doing today. God's word is not meant to be theoretically explained and studied, it is alive and active and applicable in our lives today.

If you believe in tongues you will have your stumbling block. I grew up with Pentecostal grandmother , rest of family baptist. Every Sunday the discussion always turned to tongues. Grandma thought we weren’t saved. Later I married into “Charismania”. I really thought they were more “alive in God”. But it never happened to me. Over the years I saw the focus was on experiences and only on Gods word as it could be used by the person to get what they wanted. They didn’t have Sunday school or Bible study. No one knew about holiness or Gods sovereignty , confession of sin repentance, and suffering in trials, perseverance. Untrained (possibly unregerate) ministers leading people by twisting scripture to make it mean what it to mean. No substance, no strength or spiritual nourishment. Church was a pep rally where you got your “name it and claim it“ mantra for the week. I went back to the Baptist church. If you want an experience go to Disney World. If you seek the truth of God you won’t find it in places that diefy man and put him in the drivers seat.

Paul speek in Tongues, and he wasnt an unbeliever . There are several types of tongues talked about in 1Cor. 14 , including Spiritual language, not just languages of men . Paul was an Evangelist to the Gentiles, not the Jews , and he said " l wish you would all speak in Tongues " , as far as Healing l've been Healed more than once ,instantly, you know like when Jesus healed the Multitude, along with other individuals . Scripture says that " Tongues will cease , and knowledge will pass away when the perfect comes " Well Tongues haven't ceased , and knowledge hasn't passed away , because the Perfect is Heaven (Face to Face with the Almighty) , the Bible isn't the perfect, as in pastor John MacArthur's interpretation ,l totally Disagree with Dr. John MacArthur's interpretation of Tongues and Healing
Cornelius and his ppl.spoke in other languages as they heard the gospel message from Peter and believed. Just as happened to the Jews believers in Acts 2, so Peter and his group knew the gentiles conversion was authentic. They knew to baptize those gentile because of their conversion - that was the purpose of the sign that occurred.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power therein: from such turn away 2 Timothy 3:15. John is an awesome scribe, but is in serious error in many instances, e.g. his teaching on the mark of the beast. Scripture teaches that taking the mark is death eternal. But John teaches otherwise. John denies the power of the cross!

The Holy Ghost is a promise to the churches the scripture says you shall receive power after when the Holy Ghost comes upon you and you will be witnesses. The power he promise is the anointing and that anointing is what breaks the yoke, to set people free that are demon possessed, to set people free that are oppressed with all manner of illnesses. The scripture says if your faith is as small as a mustard seed it will move a mountain.
wow, I am in shock to hear this man. To say the Giftscof the Holly Spirit have cease today, is to say we no longer are members one of the other, is to say we no longer "edify" the Church. This type of doctrine is the result of the rejection to other type of doctrine (Charismatics) so this guy goes to the other extreme of unbelief. John MacArthur is a very good teacher of the scripture. But. No man is Perfect in their Doctrine or theology!! Sir John is not infallible.. he is subject to error because we are all still in this Fallen body, and do not see clearly but through a glass dimly sometimes it appears his teachings that he claims that his teaching Doctrine is without error, but he also claims he is a sinner and subject to fault and error. Brother John sincerely believes his teaching is true including his doctrine of secession. Due to the fact that he has not experienced any Supernatural gifts himself. Mark 16:16 that he refers to , he adds that is what he believes that it was for that time. Only. That is his understanding . That does not make it truth or gospel that is his conviction . I am praying for Brother John that he would receive the baptism of the holy spirit in fire. He claims that he has never heard the voice of the Lord internally or an open vision from the lord. At the age of seven innately I knew and understood that God's children would disappear from the earth in a Flash when God the father said come up! I had experienced spiritual Supernatural dreams and knew of the Rapture, but I didn't know what it was called as a child. At the age of 16 the Lord came to me in an open vision meaning I was fully awake alert and in a room full of about 18 other people. All of a sudden the room went completely White, everybody seem to have disappeared and I heard no chattering of their speech. The voice of the Lord was that in authority of the entire universe speaking. His words were. My Return Is So Soon! It Is Like Today That I'm Coming. I'm Coming In Your Lifetime. In the past 3 years since covid-19 we have seen 10 million military age men access enter the country being paid by the UN United Nations. Halfway through his term cataclysmic changes will take place. The church will be taken out! That is the bride of Christ. Return with Jesus at the second coming when he sets His foot on the Mount of Olives to destroy the Wicked and Dispose lock up the Devil and his demons in the Pit. Now this is interesting. I'm getting some teaching on miracles.. healings and tounges from someone who does not really believe that these gifts are for today.😮
But wait, Mr MacArthur, if the gifts of healing and miracles and signs were a sign to Unbelievers to confirm the gospel, like you said, why should God take away these gifts if Unbelievers will still remain (as they do and still will do)?
Paul also performed miracles by the mighty working hand of God, one of which was recorded in Acts 20:7-12; the raising of Eutychus by Paul, a young man who fell to his death at Troas. So, it's either I'm deeply mistaken or Mr MacArthur was very mistaken and should rescind that part of his message.
However, regarding your message about tongues in this sermon, that's totally worth paying attention to. I will certainly go back to listen to those again whilst carefully studying scriptures. I'll try to make more comments here after studying, God willing. Thanks for this teaching, Mr MacArthur 🙏🏿😊

I am so great full for Men that speak the truth of Gods Word John, but it sounds like you are the deceived one here! I could quote a dozen verses of Scripture, but it sounds like your mind is made up, pride! I have been a student of, Dr. Derek Prince for 40 years, a man called by God to teach Scripture. Healing is clearly for today, or our God would not be, the same yesterday, today, and forever, if healing was not for today. I myself have used my authority and prayed for many people, one lady with Cataracts that disappeared after praying, and many others.
In the book of Acts Paul healed the sick with his handkerchief and even cast out a familiar spirit out of a woman who was a psychic. In the book of Corinthians it says that the gifts of spirit is of one spirit and of one body and it is for the edification of the body of Christ. Those gifts is interpretation of tongues, word wisdom, word of knowledge, gift of healing, gift of prophecy, diversities of operations, diversities of tongues, gift of faith, working of miracles and discerning of spirits. 1 COR 12:7-10. This was given to the body of Christ to manifest the power of God that he will get the glory among unbelievers so that they will believe he is all powerful but we as children of God have to avail ourselves so that God can use us mightily.
Huh? You think the fullness of Scripture should apply to you today? Weird, considering it was written by people, for people thousands of years ago in a culture and context entity foreign to us. If modernity was the target audience, how would that be of any use to the original audience?

You are so wrong...the Gift of salvation includes tongues . You don't have it because you place boundaries on the Gospel. Don't be afraid of the Holy Spirit.
@@RobTheTruth Whoever believes and is baptised shall be saved. No man can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born again ( baptised) of water and the Spirit. Gifts are not evidence of salvation, fruit is , love joy peace etc... the gifts edify the believer and the body of believer's. Those who keep the word of the Lord are his sheep, not those who profess faith in him but don't obey.

Macarthur has many good teachings. but not this one. Matthew 28:20. Apostles told to teach their disciples EVERYTHING he taught them which includes healing. John 14:12.
