Miranda Russell's diction is precise and clear but with nuance and gesture that reflect her acting skill. Here she delivers the ballad -- the story -- as well as the music. One of the best performances of the song.
Anyone interested in the Ariels that angels were riding down to pick up James can get an idea of them from a dip into this video clip. James would have heard them coming. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1HWnCtnOzxk.html
I recently asked a motor cycle rider if a Vincent Black lightning 1952 had ever been seen at a well known local bike venue. She was not sure but at least she wore black leathers and revealed a fine head of red hair, when she removed her crash helmet !
Wonderful. This is, in my opinion, the best ever version of this Richard Thompson classic outlaw ballad, sung beautifully, with nuance fitting the ballad's unfolding story. A synthesis of Thompson's singing and great guitar playing- the accompaniment does a good job here.
HEARD SEVERAL VERSIONS OF VINCENT BLACK LIGHTNING. SHE DOES IT BEST. SHE ALSO NAILS GILLIAN WELCH'S SONGS. BOUGHT HER ROCKPORT CD AND WAITING FOR MORE!
I just love the power with which she OWNS this song. The verses end with a low note of "ride" and i love the way she hits it. Doesn't hurt that she sure does look like the Red Molly in my mind's eye too.....
Ah, my favourite Richard Thompson song and she carries it off so well. I'll certainly check out her other stuff on the basis of this performance. Just heard Dylan have a pot at it and Miranda sees him off comfortably
OMFG!!! What an amazing cover of a classic. I find the lyrics much easier to understand when Miranda sings, as compared to male singers of this same song. Her range, clarity, and passion combine to create a masterpiece. If anyone sings this song better, I've yet to hear them. Thank you Miranda.
It just gives a person chills! Miranda OWNS this song! She does an exceptional and emotional rendition of this song that brings tears. May her God Bless her (and her AMAZING BAND!) and Richard Thompson, of course!
Fair dues Miranda,[ actually seeing as we are on I notice Thompson has a new album out Acoustics Classics]. Well doner I love how you got really in to it
Really captured it. I like the part where the tear ran slowly down my left cheek. She said "Greeve-es wont do" as originally written. But a Greeves was a two stroke trials, enduro, motocross bike. So now some other British bike is sung, like Beezer's, for BSA. Even Thompson sings so....Best motorcycle song ever.....
I've heard many versions of this fantastic song , and apart from Richard Thompson's original , my other favourite rendition was by Scottish folk singer , Dick Vaughan , who recorded it for his Sail On album .
A fantastic cover, good enough to forgive the lyrics slip. Not Greasers but rather "Beesers" for bikes by B S A. Made from 1917 to 1977 by British Small Arms. Miranda's version has more passion then Richard Thompson's original but his guitar picking makes his version
