First, understand that this takes an orchestra of the finest musicians. But, it's also often done by other great leaders. I first saw a video, many years ago, of Daniel Barenboim conducting from a piano.
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. may peace and calmness fill your life. ❤
@Zhizhou Chen: well, the piece is harmonically very simple, but Haydn managed to make it really exciting and it does have some technical trickinesses in the solo part.
@@ignacioclerici5341 I think this old conversation thread is broken, some comments seem to have vanished and I can't remember anymore what I actually replied to. But my point seems to have been pretty much just that: that the harmonic simplicity doesn't mean that the piece is trivial.
My favourite Haydn's piece, so elegant and graceful and of course, full of passion, too! Maybe his finest hour. The quintessential piece from the classic period.
It's great to see Maisky conducting as well. Happens a lot with smaller orchestras that aren't big enough for a separate conductor but not small enough for no conductor
I like this kind of standard performance where each note is played with care rather than a performance for a competition that only contains superficiality.
There is no way of being closer to heaven than by indulging in this music... When Haydn was asked how he managed to compose one masterpiece after the next, he answered "Never do I lay myself to rest at night without praying to the Lord that I might succeed again the next day." As one can plainly hear, the Lord heard his prayers...
Love that quote!! So cool that Hayden viewed his music through such a lens of gratitude, offering it back to the Lord. That's inspiring:) Thank you for sharing!
The best version of Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1, I would say... Mischa Maisky is such a great musician... (I think that when a person who plays a specific instrument conducts the music, the music becomes more alive.)
I haven't known this concerto as long as I have Haydn's No. 2 (70 years!), but was thrilled when I first heard it some 20 years ago. Mischa Maisky is again an excellent performer and s superb conductor, too.
This work of Haydn will always remind me the novel Bel Ami of Guy de Maupassant - all the political and amorous intrigues in it - as it was the first time I heard this masterpiece :)
BRAVO! I would rank this performance up there with the famous recording by Jacqueline Du Pré (with Daniel Barenboim conducting the English Chamber Orchestra). The orchestra here is also superb. Wonderful candenza in the first movement! On a side note--I am always struck by how much Haydn learned from Vivaldi in this concerto. Engineering note: the mic seems to me a bit too far from the soloist, making the fast Vivaldi-like passages in the third movement slightly fuzzy.
Haydn Cello Concerto... YES, HEAR such a charming Spiritual Phenomena! Oh, the string instruments resonate pure celestial musical sounds that are in some way concealed in the marvellous of Haydn's melody. Mischa Maisky performs an outstanding contrast of intensity of resonance, balance, vibrancy, dynamism and harmony along the with the orchestra. An awesome conductor as well.
I have been learning cello for 2 years now, and I will be joining a competition. I’m learning this song in 2 months! 1 more month left, progress is ok. You make it look so easy! Practicing day and night. :)
Nah you should see my friend. He is a prodigy😅 Anyways I finished the competition and got a score of 95 out of 100. Got an honorable mention. Ok I guess but thanks😊
Come on Joanne! Mischa Maisky is so over-rated! Maisky was only The 6th place in The Tchaikovsky Cello competition! The Best Cellists Are really=Gaspar Cassado ( The most beautiful Sound better than Du Pre's sound!) Gary Hoffman ( The King!) Daniil Shafran ( The GOD!) Arto Noras ( The biggest tone! The Loudest Ever! Du Pre a tiny small Cello tone in The Big concert Hall!) Karine Georgian!! The Real Bad cellists Are really=Yo-Yo Ma ( The most Boring ever!) Natalia Gutman ( The Bad vibrato!) Mischa Maisky.Truls Mörk
Well then we agree on du pre bless her heart! NO ONE PLAYS LIKE HER! Love Luka from the 2 cellists (schindlers list) can't stand the other one. OVER RATED IS NO WAY A WORD TO DESCRIBE Mishka! It all looks too easy for him and we know how damn hard IT is!
You are still with Us on Eart. Why not trying to start Your adventure with cello? Good luck! :) ; ...and f.e. my style of playing is much closer to Yo Yo Ma(He is introvert) than Mischa Maisky(He is half phlegmatic half holeric). They are both amazing. I wish I could play(in future of course) in my own style, because I am me not Yo Yo Ma, but as good as Him.
This is the first piece i wanted to learn when i first played the cello. 3 months later and I can almost play the first page (I’m continuing from playing violin so it’s easier)
dang! that’s amazing, i’ve been playing for close to 8 years and i am just learning the second page, the fact you can play this after 3 months is insane to me!
Hi, i'm watching this, hehe... All because I need some information for a homework. I need to know whre are they making the concert and the date, ¿anyone knows where I can find this information?
Haydn is clear and warm father because of his Toy Concert. I heard it's music at first eleven ages, But l wanted Ludwig's Romance than it's music. My Brother evaluated me lower, I was a child hood however l was a man in future twenty year after. Now I am a Man too. Good Night!
