@@cali3473 Haven't read the source material in over a decade so I can't tell you. The Taiwan version "It Started with a Kiss" and second season "They Kiss Again" follows the manga pretty faithfully. She gets diagnosed and runs away while he finds out later and chases her. It just sort of stops after he finds her and she tells the family. They put up a text card saying they are ending there to honor the manga author who died before completing the work. Most of this goes down in the last episode of "They Kiss Again" if you want to see it.

The reason why Naoki is really jealous of Keita is because he's exactly his opposite. He has a warm personality and is loved by all and knows how to take care of kotoko. The only thing Naoki has compared to Keita is his superior intelligence. Keita like Naoki, never allows kotoko to depend on him and makes her want to grow. Hence, he felt threatened of losing Kotoko to keita because he has nothing else to offer. Keita can do the things he does to kotoko and better. been rewatching this and reading some comments.. those saying Naoki is red flag, toxic and what not, i don't think they understand the drama... Naoki is a genius who "can do everything" and having everyone praise him so he is so used to being so confident and sure of himself and an epitome of an introvert until kotoko. so he is still learning a lot about emotions and how to handle and express them. another thing, naoki is generally "nice" or civil with other girls but "arrogant" and cold to kotoko and his mom, i think this is because kotoko and his mom are the only ladies he is comfortable to be himself. and blaming him entirely for the lack of confidence of kotoko, for goodness sake the guy literally announced his wife to the media, never did he denied he is married and his wife is kotoko, if anything he is more vocal about their marriage than kotoko.

This scene 37:37 reminds me of one scene in the anime when Kotoko and Naoki fight then she call her new friends and drink with them. I remember Moto-chan's word when he said that he understood keita's feelings towards kotoko. I thought that Naoki did a good job defending his wife, Kotoko, from Keita's advances at the bar and the health center. So, I felt that he dropped the ball after that. I was surprised that he didn't get more forceful with Keita after that. Instead, he took it out on Kotoko. He did the same thing when he and Sahoko saw Kotoko and Kin-chan at the Bridge. He was jealous to see her with him, so he lashed out at her. He's right when he says that Kotoko can make him lose control of himself when she's around.
While Naoki wants Kotoko to be independent and rely on herself, I think he'a the type to get shaken up if Kotoko actually did find something she likes and pursues it. Although he's supportive of her dreams, he's not used to her having a world without him in it. He's confident because he knows Kotoko's world revolves around him so the appearance of Keita--a handsome and competent man who's also close to Kotoko--crushed his own wall of security. Kotoko's world may revolve around Naoki but it has so many people in it. On the other hand, Naoki's world only has his goals and Kotoko in it.

Naoki felt so jealous and threatened when he heard that KinChan had proposed to Kotoko, that he quickly confessed his love and married her. He could have just started dating her, but by marrying Kotoko, Naoki got rid of KinChan's threat to him. KinChan loves Kotoko and would marry her in a heartbeat if he could, but he would never come between Kotoko and Naoki if they are married. Keita in my view is a more dangerous threat to Naoki because he does not have a filter. Keita doesn't respect the boundaries of Kotoko and Naoki's marriage. He thinks everyone is up for grabs if their relationship and behavior don't live up to his standards. Naoki spoke to Keita twice about respecting his wife and their marriage. Keita doesn't care. The majority of men will respect another man's exclusive relationship with a woman. They know that she's off the market. Imagine being Naoki and being confronted with a guy making a play for your wife. This must be terribly frustrating to Naoki. No wonder he's mad. He has no idea what to do. He's never encountered anxiety, frustration, and jealousy on this level before. This defies his sense of logic, so he resorts to his old standby emotion of lashing out at the woman he loves.
