My late uncle was employed by the DA's office and many times worked with Marcia. He liked her and told me she was a hard worker (this was years before the OJ trial).
This case should've been tried in Brentwood, where the crime occurred, and where O.J. Simpson would've been judged by a jury of his peers. Gil Garcetti used his muscle to move it downtown. At that point, it was no longer about murder and escalating domestic violence, and O. J. Simpson was home free.
Spot on. The facts proved him guilty but I question myself if I would have found him guilty believing more lives would have been lost through riots. It wouldn't be right but there is no doubt in my mind that more deaths would have happened.
The interview I didn't know I needed. She's fascinating. I was about 10, when this all occurred, only superficially knew what was going on. May have to check out her book.
Toobin covered the trial and wrote a book saying that Ito asked him personally ‘How am I doing?’ (I’m paraphrasing). Can you imagine a judge asking a journalist that? He was clearly very concerned about his image and meanwhile Cochran and company took over the show.
I was 18 when this happened and couldnt stand hearing about the OJ trial..it was in every newspaper and tv channel for like 3 or 4 years straight- it was exhausting...but i do remember how the media constantly criticized Marcia's appearance. As a young girl i couldnt understand how that was newsworthy as a grown woman, im elated at how much progress we have made with sexism
Marcia Clark is very intelligent and a great prosecutor and she won countless murder cases. The jury in the OJ criminal trial were really stupid and biased and it never even mattered that they had tons of strong evidence of OJ's guilt. Thankfully the civil court trial where he testified and badly, that jury was very sensible and found him responsible for the brutal insane murders of poor Nicole and Ronald.
"Without a Doubt" By Marcia Clark was my FAVORITE book of the year when it came out. She is brilliant, insightful, and I was rooting for her the whole time! When she described Nicole Brown' and her family, my heart broke into a million pieces; it really grounds the reality of the evil of OJ Simpson and how the media totally botched the narrative.
Interesting to hear from Marcia. Lots to learn here. I wouldn't have paid attention had it not been Megyn's show. She is great with the long form interview. Glad I stuck around. Big surprise right? Only one of my favorite shows.
I am so surprised at how different Marcia really is to what I thought she was like, full of humour, stoic, and just so affable and sharp, have watch all these interview, clips, and she's an absolute delight will get her book for sure.
I was glued to the TV watching the OJ trial. I loved Marcia and sent her a card thanking her for her tenacity. I taped a lot of the trial on my VCR. I should go back and watch because I’d like to see judge Ito in action again, since I’ve been more educated on how the courtroom works by watching many trials after that. The evidence was so strong against OJ and I was flabbergasted by the verdict. A couple of years after the trial I was going thru some photos I had and found one that had Kato in it! It was from 1986 when my friend celebrated her 25th birthday at the Bicycle Bombay restaurant in Burbank California. He was our waiter wearing and black and white striped shirt. Crazy.
The glove debacle really made me mad. I had a pair of leather gloves with cashmere lining and put a latex glove on to see how that would affect the fit. Of course it was really hard to get the glove to fit, as I suspected! Too much friction. Ugh.
"Judge" Ito allowed the police to be put on trial when in reality, in many previous encounters, the police bent over backwards to protect O.J. Simpson, and shield him.
Of course, He is not a white, as far as I am concern, Judge Ito was all the way shifted to the Prosecute team and bend over to placate them. I watched the completed trials and found Simpson absolutely not guilty. You are certain a bias attorney, it is scare to have packs of attorney like your ilk roaming around targeting the minorities. Such a tragedy.
"The Test of Time" you are so smart, in fact so smart and you will always be SMART. Thank You for your fortitude and persevering through this "Trial of the Century"
I still shiver at the thought of the manner in which OJ murdered Ron Goldman, Nicole Brown, his ex-wife. You did a stellar job in trying to get Justice for them against all odds.
it was obvious that OJ was guilty and it was also obvious Marcia and Chris were amateurs compared to the defendants team-the jury had already made up its mind -racism goes both ways
While I agree with you about OJ's guilt, timothy, the real amateur in the room seemed to be Judge Ito. However, I said many times back in the day that OJ could have jumped up on the defense table and screamed his guilt for everyone to see, and that jury would have judged him not guilty anyway. Rodney King's ghost hung over that courtroom, and there was no getting over that.
I saw the title and it got me thinking about another story: the time Marcia Clark had to leave court early to pick up her kids; she was going through a divorce and trying to manage her life, all the while putting up with comments about her hair, clothes, and other crazy things. I was astounded by the court's lack of sympathy for her situation and the professionalism shown toward her. She was defending a murdered woman and man and having to deal with this nonsense.
It was her job!! She had a professional responsibility and an obligation to her oath as an Officer of the Court, If she was having personal problems, she should have sought help and excused herself. There’s no shame in stepping back to regroup. No Excuses!
@@jimfesta8981 In accordance with your train-of-thought..do you want to see an ‘ugly b*tch’ on broadcast Tv? What’s your point? It’s the demand of the ‘market’...dummy!😂
IMHO the case was lost in large part to the prosecution trying to paint an extremely specific chain of events. When inconsistencies arose it allowed the defense to pull at that thread and unravel the trust in the entire case being presented by the prosecution. Add to that the obvious chain of custody issues surrounding the vial of blood taken from OJ. The volume drawn wasn't documented and it was inexplicably allowed to remain in the wild four several hours before finally being entered into the lockup as evidence. Again giving the jurors a reason to doubt the validity of all blood evidence. State may have won the case if they were facing lesser council, but the "dream team" put up a seriously compelling defense. To this day we all know the phrase "If the glove don't fit, you must acquit".
Does DNA in a hot car magically turn DNA into the victims and Simpson's DNA. Most of the discrediting of forensic evidence was like this, yes procedural errors, but not significant to the results. What was far more damaging was the allegations of police planting evidence. The defense made these allegations based on emotion and speculation, not proof. If there was proof OJ could have sued the police for violation his rights.
Too bad she didn’t have nice long straight hair back then. She’s not horrible looking and once or twice she looked rather nice in her white skirts and blazers with conservative heels.
Hi Michelle. Many years ago before the OJ trial, I got jury duty in the downtown LA criminal courts bldg. I was sitting in the hallway when Marcia Clark walked by. She was curly haired, very pretty and great legs. So naturally, the media would glum onto that.
The DNA proved it was OJ, but DNA wasn't understood or respected back then. No one watching on average had any idea what it meant. The presented a large poster board documenting it and it held little water, like explaining flight to someone in 1800. They also underestimated what having a black R@cist jury would mean.
Oh gosh!!🤦🏻♂️ Furhman made about race. Not the defence. The dude who “found” the gloves, and walked around the crime scene, and befriended the guy who had the blood tube, expressed hatred to interracial couples (specifically white women with black men). Go figure!!!
If looking for an explanation for why so many, like me, have such inherent contempt for our justice system, one doesn't have to look much further than this farce. That contempt, btw, is why I simply roll my eyes in apathy when Megyn clutches her pearls and gets the vapors about the lack of proper decorum or respect for the legal system. I mean, I have nothing but respect for Megyn, but it always amazes me how serious lawyers and their ilk treat the system, and why they seem confused by Americans' collective hatred for their profession.
Too bad he is not a white, so attacking is inevitable. If he were a white, nothing he did could have been wrong at all. It is all a racist game to burn the professional who was not whites. And framed Simpson when the white waitress wife divorced for 2 years dead.
Clark was the wrong lawyer for this case. She paid too much attention to what the media said about her. That's why she changed her hair style in the middle of the case because of the media attention, then later the media published topless photos of her. That's what happens when you give the media attention, you shift the attention from the defendant to yourself. That behavior is NOT what anyone would want from a laywer. Not to mention her affair with Christopher Darden, also in the middle of the case, which she never denied. She should have been fired.
I watched this trial as well as millions of others. We are 6 months apart in age. Marcia was hot, very hot, and she knew she was hot. What difference do 30 years make?
No, she was just a lousy prosecutor, the DA office didn’t help the case. This was an easy case to prosecute even being against OJ Simpson. The facts were the facts.
Majority vote is the fact? Just because the whites "Lynch" blacks agreed by law and majority of the whites, so the whites are allow ""Lynch" blacks and found not guilty by our legal system is justified? Give me a break.
Ever watch Blazing Saddles? There is a scene where Clevon Little, the mayor of Blackrock, is holding a gun to his own head and saying be careful or the Nword gets it. That is all I thought about during the white Bronco chase. 😂
Marcia was a great attorney but she found out the hard way that Johnnie Cochran was next level ...and not only that she had to deal with Shapiro, Bailey, Scheck, and many many more.....she didn't stand a chance
I would suggest she was being a responsible parent, daughter, sister and human being, making a will is one of yours responsibilities as a human so that the survivors don’t have to make those decisions their selves. I am not saying she didn’t fear for her life maybe she did.
You lose the case, so you blame the judge. Vincent Bugliosi gave the prosecution an F-. Ito had enough integrity to not make money on the trial by writing a book. You can't say the same about Marcia Clark.
it was the Dream Team vs 2 under-qualified lawyers. Marcia Clark ERA hire Chris Darden affirmative action hire. Even Johnny C admitted both lawyers where laughed at for being in over their head because of the system.
correct she was an ERA hire. its easy in this day and age to blame sexism but the the fact is it was a unqualified person that should not have been their
1John 1:1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon , and our hands have handled, of the Word of Life. This verse confronts the gnostics, #1 Corinthian #2 Doketists
it's funny that now there's more women rights all of a sudden people finally start liking marcia and sure oj is guilty?? hello stop going with popularity and use your brain! her team was respectful and oj was animal money grubbing animalistic team ....speak gurl ❤
My Story Will Be Made. And You Will Be Insanely Jealous. So Continue To See/Watch Comic Book Movie. And 100Pct Folly.Ohhhhh Errrrrr That's Right. Bumblebee,Peacemaker And Hawkeye. So Continue To Write/Say Your Comment.Im Above/Beyond. All Of You Combined.Richard.
Why didn’t you edit out the crude low class “star-fucker” comment? Do you really need to allow that? I used to love you on Fox. I know you won’t take this as constructive so I’ll just unsubscribe. Really disappointed that a person with so much talent would stoop so low.
To Kelly And Marcia. You Are Both The Copy Of Gloria Alred And Lisa Bloom. Both oaf You Females. I'm A Victim,I'm A Victim. You More Than Let Me Down.Gloria And Marcia. Richard. Let Down.
Nicole brought this on herself. Being murdered is extreme, but she could have 100% avoided the outcome. This entire interview is basically how women are victims….
Yea, Marcia Clark lost that case & made money as a result. Here's a reality check SHE is not a winner & let a person walk. She is horrible, matter fact in my world She is fired...get out of here now. She & her pal LOST
