Girl I have been SEARCHING for this! Born in the 60’s and looking for her hair cut foreverrrr....thanks for sharing! So many others “try” but do not have a CLUE lol .....now you gotta make a perm tutorial!
I just cut my own hair using this exact method and it turned out perfectly. Thank you so much Ruby for doing these videos. Love love love this hairstyle.
Thank goodness you still have this video Ruby xx. I am a DIY cutter and needed to see you do this again before I do my own. Bless you, stay well. Tracey ,Devon, England.
followed this tutorial! wow! since the 70's, i've tried to get beauticians to give me a "long shag", never thinking to ask for a Farrah cut. i was scared to try this, but so glad i did. love it! i did it myself! thank you!!!
This is the only and real Farrah Fawcett Hairstyle Tutotial! The others, are way too far from the real 70s look... Too shiny and flat. I'm very sorry I can't join your saloon (I live in Italy) but I'll show your amazing tutorial to my hairdresser. And plus, you look wonderful, funny and friendly! 100 points!
Agreed. I found it by accident and then lost it before I could save it. I’ve been looking for a few months now. Lol it really is the ONLY “Farrah” hair tutorial. ❤
Hi, - it's an easy haircut to do... but alas- the schools now don't seem to be teaching this method... perhaps due to the fact perms are not as popular as they were--- this cut ensured that "rolling a perm" was easy to do... as it is not only guaranteed no fish hooks due to the evenness of the cut- but it also made the perm look great... people with naturally curly hair love this cut as well as it make the curls pretty... - I consider myself fortunate I learned this cut in the 70s when it was taught.... the layer cuts today seem to be very uneven... random strands just chopped off... sporadic cutting- nothing precise.... if the cut is done correctly- the stylist will do the entire cut in front of your eyes while over directing to prevent losing length... I did a second video of this cut to explain to the hairdressers how to do it... watch it- and feel free to show it to the person cutting your hair. Good Luck... and thanks for the compliment! :-D
Would love to see the second video :) where can I find it. I was so looking forward to see how you did the sides. Even though you did your best to explain it, I would love to see it actually done.
I even went to the Paul Mitchel school for this haircut and the instructor pulled up a picture. Still didn't get the haircut right. They don't understand. I told one stylist that I wanted the Farrah hair. She told me, "Which one? I looked her up and she had a lot of styles." NO, only one was the Farrah look. What are they learning in school if they can't even copy a picture? I'll do it myself.
I don't think a lot of young women know what a feathered haircut is. So if you just tell them that you want your hair to be layered and then tell them how short you want your hair, they'll understand.
Honestly this is the first time I've cut my hair and absolutely loved it right off the bat. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I've never felt prettier!
Thank you for this tutorial! I’m a stylist, and after I cut my hair this way many of my clients are now requesting it. So now I get to do my favorite cut more often. You’re a great stylist and have great hair. Your model looks beautiful here too!
Thank you, Miss Ruby Tuesday! I wish I had watched your tutorial yesterday! Had a lady come in today that asked for a long shag. Did the best I could. Could you please make a tutorial of a Joan Jett shag, or a Todd Rundgren shag?
You ROCK Miss Ruby Tuesday! Thanks for the tutorial! A lot of hairstylists haven't stuck with hair as long as you have - major props for still rocking out!
Thanks for the compliment! :-D I DO love playing in hair... just hit the 40 yr anniversary of getting my license.- I consider myself very fortunate to have the job I love to do...
Tho I agree it is not the best video to highlight "How to do this haircut"- I had the camera on the station and was not able to have someone hold the camera to show the angles etc... also- I did use rollers... and for the record- I'm in California and have worked for ABC Studios as an on set stylist- credits include- General Hospital, Barney Miller, Fridays, Family Feud, Devo, Oingo Boingo, Plasmatics, & TV Guide... to name just a few - USA Cuts is nothing like a Super Cuts- I'm self employed.
GURL you don't need credentials... this video is enough to prove you definitely know how to cut some awesome hair 🥰 if I had the money I'd fly your butt into my city to cut my hair...and I'm picky about who cuts my hair. It took me forever to grow my hair out to be this long... I'm not just trusting it to just anyone. You rock as a hair stylist girl 😍
Location and of course Talent are everything. That's an amazing resume! Working for yourself is the only way to go! I hope this message finds you well!
Thanks for this. The younger hairdressers need to learn how to do this. After many years I finally found a lady my age who can cut a long layered shag. Even when I showed photos of myself with this cut, they just couldn't get it right. Stevie Nicks and Morgan Fairchild also had the long shag. After appx 17 years I finally found a hairdresser around my age who knew what to do. I have got so many compliments. ( My hair texture is more like that of Stevie Nicks)You look fabulous also.
This is the Most Authentic 1970s Farrah Fawcettt Haircut in modern day. Miss Ruby Tuesday is staying true to the original technique. Feathering and layering. Great job.
Oh Ladies, I do understand! Ive been rockin this style since I was 12. Im now 55. You are right about having a hard time finding a hairdresser that knows this cut. Im very blessed to have her! I dont like switching my hairdressers. I can count how many Ive had. Ive been with my current one since 2005. You wouldnt believe how much Ive brought to her. Strangers come up to me wanting to know who does my hair. Ive had men ask me for their wives. Nobody is wearing this anymore. Look for an older hairdresser that knows exactly what you are talking about. If this is not cut right, it will be messed up. Blessings to you all. We all need a hairdresser with a magic wand. xo
I was just ranting on Facebook the other day about how I can't find anyone who can give me this cut! The lady that used to do it for me passed away and it's been hell trying to explain to anyone new (young) that I wanted a long shag, they had no idea what I was talking about. They kept saying oh you want long layers.....nope nope nope, not the same!
Yes! We were taught to give a precision haircut. I would NEVER let anyone younger than me cut my hair! EVER! They aren't taught the skills we were taught. Nice job!
That is funny you mention you were taught to give a precision haircut, but they don’t teach that anymore. My husband cuts my hair, my mom’s, and a couple of my friends hair as well. He learned from a female friend many years ago that would cut his, so she wanted him to cut hers for her as well so she showed him how. A friend of mine stopped by when hubby was trimming my locks and as she watched, she commented that is the way her mother used to cut her hair for her and nobody does it like that anymore. So she asked him to give her a haircut as well. She was very happy with the results and asked him if he could continue to cut her hair for her as the salon stylists always hacked it and it was nice to get a good haircut that lays nice.
They aren't taught how to CONNECT everything. We were taught precision and to BLEND. The newer looks break those rules a bit and things are visually blended..
You got that right. I can't tell you how many times I've got uneven hair and just obvious mistakes. I went to beauty school in 02 and we didn't even learn this type of cut now its coming back.
Thanks Ruby!🙋🏻♀️ This is a great cut that will never go out of style. Just gave myself this cut today💗🙋🏻♀️to amplify my curly hair for more volume and curl. Im tired of fighting my curly hair and decided to embrace the bounce lol.
Love it! I still love this haircut and even though my hair is long layered, it's not layered this way (my next haircut it will be!). I'm a hairstylist and now I know how to give this cut. It's so beautiful and classic and in my opinion, will never go out of style.
Hi @ClaireMcQuarrie thanks for the feedback and nice to meet a fellow stylist! :-D - your right this cut is a classic and will always be around... mainly because it's easy to wear on just about everyone.... Let me know when you get it done! bye 4 now...
No one can do this when I ask. Excellent job. I used to feather my hair 40 years ago. I would start at the crown then follow down that length to sides and back it worked. Just different.
It’s now 2024 and girl… I’m doing this haircut today!!! I was actually alive in the 70’s and everyone had this cut in jr high!!! I’m old now but about to rock big hair again! Thank you!
To those who were asking for a follow-up on this video... it is now available - just look for "Miss Ruby Tuesday- The Farrah Fawcett Haircut #2" - it is in this playlist- I just don't know how to add video comment links anymore now that youtube no longer has that option.
Oh nevermind I saw the part when you said hair down to knee caps lol but my hair is very wavy with curly ringlets in the front and very thick is there any way I can have the real Farrah Fawcett haircut with hair like mine?
Fantastic job. I still have not been able to find someone who knows how to do it this long shag. I've taken Farrah Fawcett photos and still nothing. This is lucky to know you. That was a wonderful cut.
ProofPancake56 yes they are thanks God "..I've been doing vintage most of my life and I'm only 29 and I now have a shag nothing like this short shag thick bangs very late seventies early eighties punk style sort of almost although I'd like to do this feathery style but scared to attempt on my own tho I do only cut my own hair.
Is there any way you can do a new video. I've been wanting this hair cut for years and I saw your video many years ago and you are the only one that really knows how to cut a feather look on RU-vid.
I LOVE big hair.... I like that it can make a statement all by itself. :-D- you gave me an idea- I will make a video showing "how to make your hair BIG- 80's style." soon...
thank you Ruby! wonderfully down to earth and informative, i love your energy!! been cutting my own hair for a few years and this is the easiest to follow !
@@kimberlyisherwood6202 - it's also a sign that the hairdresser is going to do what they want, despite me telling them at the beginning that I do NOT want my hair blown out straight, I want it diffused to set the natural curl in it. Every Dam Time they go after me with the dryer and brush to straighten it.
I’m considering travelling to Your salon from the UK just to get this haircut 😹, I’ll make a vacation out of it or course but the main point in the trip will be to get my hair looking this good!
This is a timeless cut- so- despite it being 2013 - a lot of people want this haircut for the same reason they want the short pixie cut ... it's easy to maintain and always looks good even if they don't have time to style it... they can just let it dry naturally. Layered cuts will always be requested due to the simplicity of the styling- also- the long shag allows you to maintain the length without the weight- plus- it looks like you have even more hair when in reality you have less #layeredcuts
This video may be 10 years old, but man you helped me so much! It was easy, looks amazing, and I could afford it ❤❤❤ thank you so much, hope youre still well
I love the Farrah Faucet feathered back haircut!! I have had the same problem in the past getting this cut because it seems to be a forgotten cut or they don't understand how to do this cut because it's from the 70s & 80s! I believe it's coming back strong for 2023-2024!! I will see modern versions but I love the old original cut!!
I tried this on my thick curly hair but half my hair is feathered perfectly looking amazing, the other is not feathered at all even though both sides I used the guidelines. As I am doing it myself I assume the angle when I bring it to the front (not top like you) (overdirect) I didn't do it the same but i cant remember how I did the feathered side vs the non feathered to correct it, any tips? half my head looks lush just want the other one to feather too . thank you.
Thank you so so much for doing this video ! I have been looking all around for someone who could explain how to do the long shag cut! When I was in hair school my teacher never taught me how to do this kind of cut and most of the girls I work with have no clue. I hate not knowing how to do a cut for a client especially when it is something this iconic, it really makes me look unprofessional, but it is so hard to find anyone who knows how to, A. Do this cut and B. teach how to do it. I really appreciated it ! You have got yourself another subscriber !
Thanks 4 letting me know this video was helpful to you! :-D - I did another one with the same client since the camera had cut out - so look for How to give the Farrah Fawcett Haircut #2.... also I have another vid on how to give a layered cut to someone who only wants 3-6 layers...
I learned & did this cut in the late 70's many times. It's a great style and definitely a classic. Very few, if any, young stylists know how to do this cut correctly. I went in search for a Farrah Fawcett cut to show my hubby & you are the only one that cuts it like I did. I'm going to cut my own hair & have my hubby watch this video so he can cut the back & finish it up. (I have very thick hair & a real bad rotator cuff). Wish me luck! Thanks for your tutorial it's great!
I searched for years(im 33 now) and i cut my own hair just like this now! I did the chop this year took 14 inches off(i grow about a foot a year) i spent years in long v layered shag. Or waist length hair before that and this is a wonderful haircut for thick hair!
I have been cutting my own hair like this since the 70's. For a faster version, just gather hair in a pony tail and cut with pony tail pointing straight up. Always wear my hair up, just waiting for the shag to come back in style lol.
no girl you gotta let it flow!!! i love seeing women my moms age with the same hair they had in the 70s and 80s. i actually always complement them and ask how they do it. one time i did that to a lady with 80s bangs in costco and i think i surprised her cause i overheard her later walking away sounding exciting that someone had asked. also i love 80s thrasher bangs that boys used to have back in the day, wish i saw that more too
I can do a Kitchen Fawcett cut in my sleep. Always meant to be a simple cut. A nice variation is to frame the face with your guide and use the tip of the nose as your cutting point.
Omg I have to been searching for someone who knows how to cut like this and it really is crazy that very few stylists even ever heard of this kind of cut as well as the gypsy shage and so ya I know that feeling of actually trying to find someone who knows how to do this it has been 20 yrs for me too
I want to have a farrah fawcet haircut and its very thick and wavy and would piss off my girls cause my girls are jealous of the amount of hair we'll its not my fault my family are from Ireland and I live in London thanks for the video hun I'm going to use it as my my hair needs a revamp after fracturing my ankle and the amount of xrays my hair don't feel it's best xx
Love love the long shag over direct hair cut farrah Fawcett hair style you did on the lady. One question what do you do to maintain your hair so full and healthy Please give me some tips
Watched your video I love the cut you did on the model.Yes,I had the Farrah though the hair dresser that done mine back in the day didn't turn out as good as you done.An I would have the cut again if I could. Thanks for the video.❤
Thank you so much! I'm gonna use this video when I get some haircutting scissors. I have sort of a long layered 90s cut right now but I've always wanted more layers throughout my hair (like an late 70s/early 80s look) instead of having the shortest layer ending at my chin.
Hi, thanks for the question :-D- I over directed to the center top- the center is my guideline- so each 1/4 inch section I take I bring it to that point & then over direct by 1/4 inch... so when you comb it backwards you can see the lines are in unison... and when you roll the hair...regardless of the direction- there are no gaps. - EG: if you choose not to roll it backwards for the classic feather look- you can roll it down for a classic wave look with no interruption. :-D
Omg. My brother told me he was going to cut my hair like this when i was 5 , I got a bowl cut. I'm a cosmetologist and my mother in law wanted this cut and I didn't know how to do it. Now I can. Thank you. Did you over direct completely over the sides? Thank you that was awesome.
Hi, & thanks for asking- - yes... the entire haircut is over directed... starting on the top- when you get to the crown section 1/4-1/2 inch sections while working your way down to the nape of the head... then do your sides the same way- start at the top- doing the same 1/4- 1/2 sections you did in the back... hope that helps ya...
Thank you for this! ❤️ I'm a new stylist and this has been the hardest haircut for me to grasp, I wish I had seen this the other day when a lady asked me for this exact cut 😅
I've been searching for this for a while. My mother-in-law wants me to cut her hair like this and I couldn't figure out what to do. I'm going to try this, I'm sure it's exactly what she wants !!
