Why does nobody understand the 'eat too much ice cream' line? She's referring to a life where her children are never starving, they have a rich and plentiful life. Use a little imagination people.

Isay is the original and defined the role. I will always listen to her operatic tones fondly. Rachelle is better for this time and she has an amazing voice. Isay and Rachelle are two different Gigis, but I will always prefer Isay because I feel it fits the tragedy of the song more (reminds me of Miss Saigon's Butterfly origins)

Isay Alvarez has the voice of Gigi… she's the Gigi that i imagine.. matured, Rachelle Ann Go is a belter.. she has a great voice. =) by the way, most Gigi looks like filipinas LOL

All of them did well but let's be fair! Rachelle Ann Go with that big skyrocketing note just made her the best among all the ladies who have played Gigi. Bravo!

for voice and technique i would say Rachelle Ann Go but for emotions and acting skills goes to isay. Original cast has better emotions and acting skills but the current cast has better voice techniques.

Rachelle ann go gave renewed energy on this song. You feel the anguished and frustration while her registers smoothly transitions without strain

I don't know if it's just me but the Gigis from all of the Dutch productions are all so good! I liked all of them especially Imelda :) I watched the comparison for Chris' Why God Why and I felt the same. Don't know what they're doing over there but whatever it is, it's working.. Lol!

Isay is the definitive Gigi. Those powerful operatic notes are better than the other versions which sound too squeaky or too shouty. This deep tone is a better counterpoint to Kim's angelic tone

Isay has the voice and acting for the role of Gigi but Rachelle Ann Go has everything, the voice, facial expression, acting, her looks like a Vietnamese and a twist of the note "THE DREAM I LONG TO FIND" which is different and sounds unique versus the others.

Vocal quality, maturity and depth... ISAY ALVAREZ. original....

Isay for me, hands down. To me, the rest of the actors were so hell bent on belting out the notes that they forgot to project the actual anguish Gigi felt while singing the song.

I've seen only a few Gigis aside from this video and Isay's Gigi is great. It't not just about singing. It has to be the overall delivery of the character. April Manila is also good and her vocals are strong. A good angle of Tricia Canilao's performance might give her a fair review but her voice already tells the story. Rachel Ann shouldn't have smiled even a bit when she hit that note. It somehow ruined the character she developed at the start of her singing. But that high not is exemplary to the next Gigis who'd like to do some riffs. I wont compare these Gigis to the rest without watching videos of the others performing.

Isay Alvarez was the best gigi for me, her voice contained so much story and is suitable for broadway since Miss Saigon isnt just about the singing, but also the acting and storytelling, 2nd for me is Rachel Ann Go.. she has the pipes but she still needs to learn to execute both acting/storytelling & singing at the same time.. I believe she'll get there though, she's a newbie.

I find that Isay had the best quality of voice when I imagine Gigi, but Rachelle was the only one who was able to reinvent the song and in a way made it feel like the role was made for her.. So for me she's the best one ;)

Here is my opinion Rachelle Ann Go has the best version if vocal calisthenics and voice quality are the parameters, BUT if putting emotions to the song and bringing the audience feel the journey of life's pain, I chose Isay Alvarez, in a heartbeat.

While she did not play Gigi, IMHO, Lea's version when she auditioned in Manila is the best. The writers, director, and Mackintosh were mesmerized listening to her sing this song. She sang it after Sun and Moon and I believe it was these two performances that earned her the part of Kim. In the documentary, I don't recall the director saying "fantastic" or "beautiful" from Boublil for any of the other performers auditioning. The smile from Mackintosh's face after Lea sang Sun and Moon with Schonberg accompanying her on the piano was telling. The look Schonberg gave Lea while she was singing this song was priceless. FTR, Schoenberg has been Lea's biggest fan. Lea should make an album singing all the songs from Miss Saigon. I know there are several duets and chorus performances but that's what computers are for. She can sing both or all parts of the numbers. She sang Empty Chairs from Les Miserables live on TV so she can sing any and all of the songs from Miss Saigon.

Isay and Milanie have the best technique (spot-on pitch and timbre) and cleanest execution. Sustainable and vocal-chords-friendly for multiple shows/repeats. Rachelle sounded pop and not the best for theatre.

I literally just saw this show for the first time yesterday. I saw Marsha and must say the recording of her in this montage does not do her justice at all. I don't know if the clip was maybe from early in her run or when she was a bit ill, or just nota good quality recording but she sounded AMAZING and far far better than that clip seems to suggest.
