I agree! What were the judges thinking? The only reason that I can think of is because it has a high slit. Look at the other gowns. They were modest. Don't forget that this was in 1980. Puerto Rico's gown is popular these days. Several of the Universe and USA contests have worn gowns like hers, but back then probably not.
Yes, Miss Puerto Rico is gorgeous and she could easily be top 5, how ever Bob Barker ridicul her during interview..the pegent was held in Korea and he ask her about career easy to confuse if English is not your native language and an 18 years old girl get nervous in front of an audience and her bathing suit performance was not the best at all.

I don't get how Scotland, Canada and Iceland made the semifinals. I don't see any beauty, appeal or enthusiasm. Panama should have been in the top 5. Beautiful and great flair on stage. USA was fine as MU but her scores were too high compared to everyone else. It made it obvious she was going to win. Also, Philippines and Panama were better than her in EG. Puerto Rico was going for the Maritza Sayalero look. Right? How ironic!
