Yes please! Also, the girl who gets interviewed backstage wins! It happened with Cheslie, Sara, Kara, Catriona and Demi! I would like to know your thoughts on that as well:)
The thing I loved about the top 5 and 3 were mainly women of color and it definitely explains USA 🇺🇸 by showing how the us is diversity and the finals were More of color loveddd ittt
Great review! I really enjoy that even when you give your opinions, you have such a nurturing and sweet spirit to go with your opinions, even if it was something you don’t agree with. I can tell that you naturally have a sweet and nurturing spirit. Love it and love your review! Fantastic job!
Hello Nia. Love from India. I follow Miss USA since a long time and you've always been on top of my favourites list. As far as Miss USA 2019 goes Miss NC and Miss NM both are amazing. Congratulations to new Miss USA.
My older brother somehow stumbled on your video 1) idk how I wasn’t subscribed to you! Shame on me but 2) he was like... Nia Sanchez was so sweet in how she talked about you in this video I saw (surprised he even watched anything pageant related ALONE lol) so thank you for being sweet and supportive, you def made my morning watching this xo love u!
The Best review! I was so lucky to see and have a picture with you! Ur so nice, sweet and very down to earth. You look so Fabulous and Gorgeous as well.
omgggg been WAITING for this review! also you looked so beautiful during the pageant but particularly when you hosted :') FL AL NM TX were my original favs but KS OH surprised me and i was here for it. gasped when KS came out. NC won it with that Q/A. such a great speaker. NM was like belle. idk how TX didn't make it though - i understand that we don't see interviews, and some girls were super hyped that we didn't see in the finals that could've had the interview break their chances, but TX was a previous national titleholder so maybe it was the one time thing. I did notice OK's gown tho! wish people got to change their gowns if they wanted to though :(
Yes! It was also a Sherri Hill. Olesya Stefanko (Miss Universe Ukraine 2011) wore it in white and gold (yeah, more of a Grecian goddess theme). Also, Pia Wurtzbach wore a peach version of it in one of Sherri Hill’s fashion shows a few years ago.
Hola Nia!! Love your videos! I’ve been a super fan of The Miss USA/UNIVERSE system for a very long time.. since the mid-80s. I’ve had a pet peeve for years! When the winner was announced this year we didn’t see her face for about a minute (probably less, but it felt that long). That’s because the final two face each other. It used to be that they would stand side-by-side and we got to see the winning reaction. Now, not seeing their face when they win has only happened a handful of times. But it still drives me nuts. The “change” started in the 2000s. I prefer the final two standing side-by-side because you can fully see the winners reaction. I hope maybe you can discuss this and share your opinion on your next video? I’ll send you a pic on Instagram of an example.
You’re one the best Miss USAs ever! You and Olivia! Gorgeous! I was rooting for NM, NC did answer better but I was hoping that they would factor in everything... gown, walk, face, etc. I always support USA and Philippines because I’m Filipino but has lived forever in Cali. Is USA my fave for Miss U. No but I do wish her luck and of course want to see every girl do well! It’s so hard and so much work to do what they’re doing! At the end of the day, we all have our faves but no disrespect allowed! Kudos to all the ladies!
Yesss!! As always agree with this review 100% Nia!! Your soul is just so kind and sweet! I love how you tell it like it is but you’re still so kind and encouraging to and about each and every amazing girl! Side note: I watched your pageant videos a billion times 🙈, in addition to my coaching, before recently competing, in a pageant and just captured the title of Mrs. Alabama United States 2019, a couple of weeks ago! So thank you so much Nia! You are absolutely amazing! 💗
I enjoyed your recap! I loved the Top 3, but my favorite was New Mexico. She won me over with her Top 5 answer because my family’s roots are in The Philippines and my ancestors came to the United States to pursue the American dream. Also, they should let the contestants wear gowns of their own choosing. And your red Michael Costello gown is the best and most iconic Miss USA gown ever! 👏🏻❤️💃🏻👑
Hi Nia, Great video as always. Loved how you were playing with your hands as you mentioned the who made each cut, LoL. There is always an emphasis on girls looking at the camera at the finals. I also noticed this year that the camera really zoomed in close on the girl's faces. Do you know if the judges are instructed to only look at their monitors during the show?
Hi Nia, i just thought that New Mexico has more chance in Miss Universe with her over all package and Miss Oklahoma is more on Miss USA alone. #myopinion Btw, always looking forward of your reactions. Love it gurl!
Nia!!! Does the competition week leading up to the pageant get counted in the contestants overall score? Or do the girls only get judged in interview swimsuit and evening gown?
I"m glad that you didn't really sugar coat this pageant review because I saw that you have real opinions rather than being a mouthpiece for the MUO. I'm totally against having Sherri Hill as a designer due to only acknowledging the winner of Miss USA on Sherri Hill's Instagram and they're not really size inclusive in their designs for models and dress designs. Also, I hate how they pick their Miss USA's solely by only being good for Miss USA. The judges need to understand that they need to judge on who would do good at Miss Universe like the other countries do. I'm definitely going to predict that Miss USA would get a top spot due to only being from the United States. I hope that you hear me put for my opinions.
Hi Miss USA Nia, New Mexico was my choice to compete for Miss Universe! It's great to see the ladies dancing. I'd love to see more of the contestants, let them all compete for swimsuits and evening gown, then cut to 10, to 5 and so forth. Loved seeing Catriona, would rather see more of her than more of Lu Sierra. Anyway, thanks for the recap, I hope you cover Miss Philippines pageant as well. Hugs from Los Angeles.🇺🇸👸🏽🇵🇭🌹❤️🙏🏽
So proud of my oldest daughter Triana, as if Miss Oklahoma was not enough. I Loved the recap, I still watch videos almost everyday lol. 🤷♂️ Thank you for being so kind and sharing your love for all the ladies. Chickasaw proud!! Much love from Triana and the rest of my family. God bless and I will be looking for your recap next year.
A huge congratulations to you Nia. I know that you are new to pageant coaching but still your clients got to be in top 3 for 2 years in a row. That's fab.
Hey Nia! I'm very happy North Carolina won! 😊 She definitely was the strongest in answering the questions which is the most transparent part of the entire pageant. My question is, would you prefer transparency during the pageant (scores shown) or do you think that would take away from the suspense? That being said, what are some factors that perhaps make one girl's evening gown performance stand out over another's when they're all showcasing confidence? (Or is it the overall score that pulls them through to the next round? I was confused about Pennsylvania's lack of presence in Top 10 too)
Hi Nia! Love your videos- I’ve loved watching USA/Universe pageants for years now 😊 I loved New Mexico, and was pulling for her, but after NC slayed the final question I had a feeling she would be the one taking home the title. Chelsie is so well spoken and will be a fabulous representative this next year! As someone who won Miss USA and was 1st RU at Universe, I would love to hear your thoughts about the comments that occurred after the pageant about Chelsie vs Allie, and some of the speculation that’s been occurring about the fairness of the pageant. Also! I’d love to hear your opinions on the same judges from interviews/prelims judging finals and if that creates objectivity issues with the girls when they’re supposed to have clean slates after top 15/20 is announced. And what is your opinion on whether or not interviews should be televised!
I loved the pageant! Could we have 2 winners pleas! JK But it was a great year, my favorites made it far and I wanted North Carolina to win! Great review Nia
I am happy that N.Carolina won. A lawyer, great speaking voice and her look was different. I think New Mexico is beautiful, but her look is very classic, safe...love the look and personality of the winner.
Hey Nia! Been waiting for your review. ❤️❤️ I totally agreed with you when this year where the delegates were wearing ONLY Sherri Hills gown. Compared to your year, your goegeous winning red origami-ish gown was designed by Michael Costello.
Hey Nia what’s your opinion on the hate that the Miss Usa’s have been receiving. I feel like it has been getting worse and worse each year and was wondering if you went through anything similar and if you think that social media has made it worse. Love your videos!
Nia question (if you read this) do you think they pick Miss USA to win Miss Universe as other countries do when they select their delegates? Or do you think they pick Miss USA to be a great Miss USA and if she does great at Universe then good for her?
Matthew Zada really great question. I remember Shandi and Susie said something in relation to this when Deshauna won. They said Hawaii would have been a better representative at Universe and that should have been the basis of who wins (or something like that). Also, Denise Quinones said the same thing at her backstage interview with Catriona.
This was the argument we had on Instagram ... in my opinion miss USA is Miss USA she shares an apartment sponsors and agency as miss universe ... they have the same opportunities and do many of their appearances together.... I don’t think USA cares about a representative winning miss universe it’s not like she’s going to get much more than what she has as miss USA
Hi Nia!!! I’ve been watching your pageant videos for a while now and I love them!!! I do have a question though.....when you said that all the girls wore Sherri Hill dresses, were you talking about ALL 51 contestants? If that’s the case, I personally think it’d be nice to see future contestants wear gowns from different designers. Idk if you’ve heard of Michael Cinco, but I think it’d be nice to see (more of) his princess-like designs on the Miss USA and Miss Universe stages.
Texan here! Alayah posted on her insta story she said the judges mostly asked her questions about her platform when she heard other girls being asked more about politics and what is happening in the world so she said she felt like after that she wasn’t who they were looking for to be Miss USA. It makes me sad because she was stunning and I know a lot about her platform! Then again everything happens for a reason and we don’t know what happens in interviews. I’m happy for the newly crowned Miss USA though!
I will always be crushed that NM was not selected because I consider her to be the complete package. NC is certainly poised and confident, but NM was our country's best option for Miss Universe. Furthermore, NC's final answer (which everyone seems determined to suggest was superior) actually was the least accurate, if you were really listening to content. There is no question that the millenial generation is more diverse than any before it (props to Oklahoma) and there is no question that it is a more impactful generation - NM nailed that and used an example (her being contacted through social media to make a direct difference). NC's response that it is a more innovative generation is actually not factual - and the example she gave about Nevada's legislature being majority female says less about the millenial generation than it does about the ones who came before (because there are no millenials in the legislature). I find her a confident speaker, but she lost the final question in my estimation. Sadly, I am only a man and in the case of this 'selection committee' the opinion of men were entirely irrelevant. And I will always believe that if even a single man were asked his opinion about the final ranking of NM vs NC, the tables would have been turned. I strongly believe that men would have found NM more appealing - and while I know we don't want to appear to have men in a position to 'judge' women because of the optics, this will ultimately change the outcomes at Miss USA. Women and men do not always view contestants in the same way and assuming there are men on these 'selection committees' at Miss Universe, Miss USA will be at a disadvantage because she was not vetted by men as well as women. I believe this was a mistake at Miss USA this year and New Mexico (and the USA) paid a price. Love you, Nia. I'm glad there were a few men on your 'selection committee'!
OMG Nia it’s so crazy how timing can leave anyone in the cards at any point in time. Miss New Mexico previously tried out for Miss Texas USA twice and only made it to runner ups. But excelled as Miss NM. While Miss Texas Aaliyah had so much support behind her as well but didn’t even make the first cut 🙁
What would you say made North Carolina's answer stronger than New Mexico? As a viewer I would have said New Mexico had the better answer. Both were amazing choices tho!
Why there is a final look when they will judge the contestant based on their answer on the final question? I thought they will judge the contestant based on the overall performance. If that will be the case New Mexico is the winner now I miss the Trump era.
May I know your thoughts regarding the different swimsuit choices this year? I know that for the past few years they’ve been offering different color/pattern choices and varying cut choices, which doesn’t really appeal to me at all. I’ve asked Dani Walker about this and she doesn’t really approve of this as well. Would you have preferred a more uniform look of swimsuits (like in your year), or do you prefer the ones that they have this year? Or maybe you have any other suggestions for the swimsuit competition in the succeeding years?
The organization should put a former Miss USA winner instead putting Lu Sierra there. She’s irritating onstage and she always find time to pull herself by emphasizing her training style with the outdated pasarela( same in Miss U). Anyway, I was rooting for New Mexico. She’s so Miss Universe onstage.
I love Mori Lee designs and Tarikediz, I really disliked how all of the girls HAD to wear Sherri. Sherri's dresses don't look very good on my figure, so I would be very upset if I had no options.
I think she got to be a part of the "SELECTION COMMITTEE" because of her connection with SHERRIHILL. Miss PR 2018 wore a Sherrihill Gown at MU. It was a last minute decision to wear Sherrihill. Infact a beautiful gown designed by a local PR designer was supposed to be Miss PR's gown. But her National Director (MU '01) made her wear that silver gown. I think now Sherri and her have a good friendship and also as Nia just mentioned since Sherri is huge sponsor now they may have suggested MU '01 as a part of the "SELECTION COMMITTEE".
Very disappointed with the results this year.....No doubt NC makes a great Miss USA but not Miss Universe caliber...New Mexico has a full package in my opinion.
@@Realniasanchez If I remember correctly, Olivia Culpo's gown in the Miss Universe in 2012, was a remake of the evening gown in the 1954 movie, "White Christmas."
Obviously we don't get to see the interviews with the judges so we don't know those scores. Are the interview scores only for the semifinal classification or are they part of the overall score? Or do the contestants all start new during the semifinals? I felt that NM would've been a better and stronger contender for Miss Universe. She had better stage performance and is also well-spoken. Seems to me that NC won bc she answered the final answer best not bc she was the overall strongest contestant....if the final answer is the deciding factor, then why have a competition? Can you give more insight on all this?
Your assessment is a bit screwed. The points add up. The final question is NOT the only determining factor. Of course since speaking well is a large part of what Miss USA will do during her reign, if a girl is doing well otherwise throughout the competition AND she answers the final question well then obviously those points are added to the points she's already accumulated. I know this explanation, no matter how true and clear it is will go completely over people's heads bc some absolutely refuse to believe this truth but regardless it doesn't matter. Miss NC is STILL Miss USA. Good God, let it go.
FUN FACT: Pennsylvania competed 4 or more times at MISS FLORIDA USA. She always placed and actually, IMHO should’ve already competed at the miss USA pageant. She left FL so she could qualify to compete at MUSA. She is an incredible young woman. Her appearance “has changed” a bit, and that’s ok. She did what she thought was best for her. She easily could’ve made a run for MUSA CROWN as Miss FL USA, but kept missing the crown by a placement here and there each year at miss Florida USA competition. As a Floridian and a pageant fan, this was very frustrating, because she deserved to represent Florida many times @ MUSA. I just wanted to share that, in case others were not aware of this. She’s an awesome competitor! IDK what to think about this pageant outcome at MUSA anymore, and I am curious of your opinion on this NIA... BTW,: MUSA= MISS USA MUNI= MISS UNIVERSE.. Should the MUO, have separate “ MISSION STATEMENTS” FOR MUSA & MUNI? I say this because the MUO seems to be selecting a well spoken, educated, and very unique winner for MUSA & then at MUNI, the qualities that led to MUSA being crowned to represent the USA, do NOT serve her as well as an international competitor for the MUNI crown. Does that make senses& if so, do you agree or disagree?
It’s kinda weird/ funny to me that the 2nd RU from last year was from your state then the 2nd RU this year was from Oklahoma (you crowned an Oklahoma also my home state 😁) will the 2nd RU next year be from D.C???
Nia, I loved you as Miss USA, and enjoy your you tube videos. I would love for you to do a video that addresses the pageant interview. I have so many questions. Some of them include how the Miss USA interview differs from the Miss Universe interview? Second, there are many girls that cross over from Miss America to Miss USA.There were several this year...NC, OK, AR, OH and CT. How do the Miss America interviews differ from Miss USA? During this video you mention that you have followed Miss Oklahoma, Triana Browne, for awhile. As you know, Triana Browne was Miss Oklahoma in the 2017 Miss America pageant. Pre pageant, pre preliminaries, I had her as my winner, and also chose her to win Oklahoma pre pageant. I was stunned that she did not place at Miss America, so her 2nd RU placement at Miss USA made me very happy. Like you, I love this girl. So, it just makes me want to know more about the interview process. Please cover interview topics, personal opinions vs. political correctness, wardrobe, hair, personal touches, and anything else you can share to help us all have insight into this process.
I don't like that it was only Sherri hill I feel like not only does the diversity of the dresses matter but the brands matter as well because it opens up a ton more designs and opens up different brands to more opportunities including smaller brands that haven't been noticed
OMG same thing with me,! I thought NC will win based on the last question/answe but NW Did amazing and wanted her to win- but happy with the winner. I seen that others have asked the same- if the judges are looking for a girl to win at Miss Universe or a girl to be Miss USA. for years I noticed that in Colombia they were looking for a National Queen rather than a Miss Colombia , but lately that has changed.
Triana & Oliva have been the only girls for me (both USA system & America system) that have stood out and represented Oklahoma (my state) so well 💗 when Miss OKs get crowned I usually have a feeling about them and I had very very strong feelings about both Triana and oliva. I knew for a fact they would go so far
Miss New Mexico will still enter Miss Universe, but representing Mexico. Arguably she will get stronger training with Mexicana Universal under the leadership of Lupita Jones and the Tsar of Beauty Osmel Sousa.
Sherri Hill designs are beautiful. They are good enough at Miss USA but just so so at Miss Universe. The other girls will bring their A game. Eg. Catriona's Lava dress. The gown is not everything, but it is something in the everythingness.
Nia u didn't notice ! North Carolina didn't have her hands on the top.!!! Yet,she won!!!. Butbi love her. She's amazing and gorgeous. I will not be shocked to see USA winning Miss Universe this year
Shandi and Susie talked about this! They said New Mexico forced her hands on top and that doesn't count! LOL I'm brazilian and I paid attention to this in our national pageant and the winner had her hands on the to
And really hate it when such heavy emphasis is placed on personal achievements and interview! Facial beauty should be the priority. Given New Mexico didn’t bomb her answer, she had the best overall presentation and facial beauty, she should’ve won!
North Carolina was not even in my Picks for the win but at the night progressed .... Ohh Miss here to show yah BOODYY. then evenling ware i was like oh she is here to play . then came First round of Q and A and i was like to my friend BITCH new Mexico Should be worried. and then the Final QandA: it was over. Most i know were roooting for Miss New Mexico but I knew that a win from behind like Chelsie did was a strong possibility given that at the end of the day the task of the girls is to persuade the judges and not us the audience. Cheslie stole my heart that night
I’m so late but I think New Mexico would have been a better miss universe candidate, such a strong performer when it comes to the stage in term of her walk and knowing how to catch camera at the right time along with her fresh personality. Her interview skills are good and can be improved for the pageant. I think North Carolina would be a killer candidate for Miss World actually. I think she’s fits the concept of beauty with a purpose more than Miss Universe and And would do an amazing the interviews and challenges for miss World.
I think the reason why Pennsylvania didn't make Top 10 was probably because her interview didn't go so well. I saw her compete at Miss Florida USA for many years and every time she would answer a question, she would answer it and then go off topic about other things until the timer went off.
Think that Paula & .org made some very good changes. 2 hours always better, opening production number, talk to each top 15 as announced ( not video, this is a.huge live moment)definitely top 10 videos (no matter what future changes should always keep these). At this point the TV viewer is ready to really choose who will win, and this is the real deal. Top five other state winners questions they wrote, nice idea, maybe even better if they tell u that those five were the five highest non finalist interview scores. I know at Miss Universe often best to go 5-3 so that Latino judges or other do not pack certain girls in while voting a clear favorite last, but truth is- Pomp & circumstance is so much a part of this whole thing. It is better if all 5 get individual and then same question or maybe a judge question as the second. When there are 4 runners up & winner that whole moment is so so much better, the suspense builds. With three it seems like a throw away. (I am aware that top five scoring could be 5-4-3-2-1 or 10-5-4-3-2 or maybe just 6-4-3-2-1. An extra point to the winners from each judge. At Miss USA there is less likelihood of sabotage a girl in final ballot, so I would keep it 15-10-5. With final ballot winner gets 6-4-3-2-1. At Miss Universe top 5 top 3 can be different. Sometimes languages can take over. Contestants who have sub par English should speak in their own language.
I think Miss Universe 2001 got to be a part of the "SELECTION COMMITTEE" because of her connection with SHERRIHILL. Miss PR 2018 wore a Sherrihill Gown at MU. It was a last minute decision to wear Sherrihill. Infact a beautiful gown designed by a local PR designer was supposed to be Miss PR's gown. But her National Director (MU '01) made her wear that silver gown. And if i my research is right Miss PR was the only woman in a Sherrihill gown in that top 10. (I know there were other girls too who wore Sherrihill during the prelim. But their National Directors are not Former MU 😉). I think now Sherri and her have a good friendship and also as Nia just mentioned since Sherri is a huge sponsor now they may have suggested to MUO to make MU '01 a part of the "SELECTION COMMITTEE".
