Yeah, Lars, I was totally surprised by how much a skeeter (mozzie, mosquito, etc.) head net helped my sanity. The difference between with and without was dramatic. I have two types. One I wear with a boonie hat and the other has a ring that keeps the net away from the head in a manner similar to the boonie hat. With a quality net, the heat from body and breath escapes easily.

I have some experience with Search and Rescue. My one and only time. Sadly all we found was a Meatless Human Backbone and some torn clothes. We were asked to help searching a missing Hiker in the Tatra Mountains in Slovakia. It was suspected that the guy got lost off the trial and could have fallen somewhere due to tricky terrain. Man ended up meeting a bear at some point and became his first meal since the end of Winter. This happened in spring around early April. What is horrible is that the man was only lost for 3 days, meaning the bear met him very early on to leave only his spine of him. Members of the search party found his Rucksack and some personal items about 300m from the bones confirming his identity. People dont realize that the Woods are just as dangerous as they were 500 years ago.

It makes me very sad, one of my biggest fears is finding a dead person or dead runaway dog or cat in the woods. @@SurvivalRussia I might guess Lars, the way you've documented this search of yours, might actually be a comfort to the relatives of the woman, maybe offer some closure about her passing, that she must have had some serious commitment to being where she was, that something that extensive, doesn't usually happen without purpose and intent. If she was not just helplessly deranged or confused before starting or seriously injured, she might have been seriously intent on the apparent outcome. What on earth was she doing out there? In the woods, life is apparently quite serious.

I’ve raced it, worked it as a guide bike and done search missions here in Wales for decades, it’s never let me down. Apart from general servicing I’ve only had to change a couple of camchains which take a couple of hours to do. Cheap too as I use ZXR400 camchains and cut them to length.😊

Yeah, Lars you definitely ended that search at the right point. By one's self, with clear evidence of freshly made bear prints and no real way to defend yourself, you would just be putting yourself in danger of encountering ole griz (all bears are grizzlies when you are by yourself in the woods). Seriously, bears, whether black or brown can be very dangerous to a single person in the woods. Even when heavily armed and armoured the danger is still high. Bears are slow and make a lot of noise, except that when they want to, they can be very quiet and very fast. You have to be on your guard with your head on a swivel to keep alert at all times. I keep a Springfield Armory XDM 4.5 10mm with 5.28" threaded barrel on me and a 458socom AR with a blast can (my theory is that it maximizes the sound heard by the bear and is more likely to scare it off, if I miss). And of course, the ubiquitous very large can of pepper spray is also at hand. Each has a purpose and each requires training to be used to its best effectiveness.

The plant is called Riesen-Bärenklau in german, in english Giant Hogweed, and it is truly not to be underestimated. If it comes into contact with the skin and sunlight reaches the affected area, it can cause burn-like blisters. Even after healing, the skin often remains sensitive to the sun. It can also pose a danger to dogs and other animals. However, goats can eat it without any problems.😂

As a 12-year member of our local SAR team, I know how daunting it can be trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack. It's always most important to consider your own safety, especially when you probably are not searching for a living person at that point. Also, we never operate individually. Teams of two or more are far better both for safety and for more thorough coverage of the search area. Thanks for your willingness to get involved and help out!

I'd build a light plastic splashguard with holes cut in along the top line of it so nothing can splash into the airbox coming up from the back wheel . Or a small plastic piece attached to the bolt on side plate to help divert water from getting up near the airbox opening , some stick on foam onto the back of the side plate might do it .
