Missing GA4 configuration tag? Here's the solution

Google is rolling out changes that affect your GA4 configuration in Google Tag Manager.
From now on, instead of the GA4 config tag, you will be using a Google Tag.
This means that the setup process in GTM is also changing.
So if you are wondering why you are missing the GA4 config tag, this video will give you the explanation and the solution.

Thanks but why they decided to do so? Thats unification or some other motives they have, how do you think? Btw, mb you do know why GA4 shows campaign = organic from google / cpc source medium - let me know please.

For example, when you want to add event parameters that should be shared among all events and that might change on a page. E.g. page_location on songle page applications

Thanks Julius! Just one question, for standard situation a single setting variable is fine (Google tag found in this container). But how you do the configuration when is related lookup table variable? Thank you Error message: Cannot detect if the Google tag is in your container You may have used a variable or invalid input

Ignore the error and check with preview/debug mode if ga4 still works with lookup

I tried with Google Tag, but it is not working. It fires "purchase" to Google Tag corectly, but to Google Analytics is not sending data for some reason :( Because of that, I can't setup Conversions in Google ads and so on.

Hi Julius, i see you choose as a trigger "initialization all pages" doesnt it go against the consent regulations in EU? Thanx

It does. But this video is just about the tag template, not consent triggers. Explaining everything about the consent and proper setup would take me additional 30-60 minutes in every tutorial. And I would be repeating myself over and over again. Which does not make sense. Where did the user properties go? Do we need to re-configure them at the event level? Since Google Tag now doesn't support user properties and our Config tags have automatically been transferred to Google Tags... Thanks

User properties are in the event settings variable. You can use it in the google tag

Hi Julius, I can't see Google Tag anywhere in the section Tags - New - Tag Configuration. I have no access to make edits in GA4. Can this be the reason I don't have this Google Tag option?

no, GA4 permissions have no impact on this. Maybe the rollout is still happening. I don't know. Check if you are looking at the web GTM container. Also, clear your browser. maybe that will help. If not, wait longer

Your google tag account is old account that's why you can't find out it 😅... don't worry if create new account in Google tag you'll find Google tag .

page_view is sent when it's a GA4 ID ?

I haven't tried entering any other IDs, but when it's a GA4 ID, then yes, the page_view is sent by default.

I assume you are asking about the "send a page_view event when this configuration loads" setting. It must be under the "configuration settings" tab. When your settings are migrated, you'll see it under that tab.
