Some of these stunts would be more spectacular in the final movie (for my eyes) with less CG enhancements. A real train plunging into a ravine is awesome enough - but the shot is "watered down" in a way by the CG smoke, CG water, CG debris and and CG environment. The same with fights on top of the train. It doesn't look that dangerous and "real" because of the CG environments and foliage.

no, you think you will like the practical better but 99% of time if post didn't added their touch it would not be spectacular by a mile.

Hey man you might wanna cover things about Mission Impossible Fallout CGI. Because there is literally no cgi breakdowwn for that movie. There is few, but its in form of article writing. Especialy the halo jump scene, the vfx team had to track the camera movement, using very little tracking point, most of it is cleaned with hand. And some of helicopter scene is done with bluescreen. So yeah basically they actively trying to hide it. But I understand their reason. To be fair though the director never deny the usage if cgi, he just refer it as "movie magic". Because people nowadays think vfx are bad

In "The Spy Who Loved Me", there's this really bad back-projected shot of Roger Moore pretending to ski. But this shot is embedded in this beautifully shot sequence of ski stunts in glorious Panavision. Which really enhanced the stunts and the stunt crew. Yes, Moore didn't do any of that, but SOMEONE FECKIN' REALLY did this! Some guy really jumped off a cliff with skis and parachute. But now, CGI and digital postproduction glosses over all of this, and blurs and blends the real and the artificial, which, paradoxically, kills the emotional affect of BOTH the real and the artificial. Yes, Tom has done a ton of stuff, but we don't care, because it's buried under a shit of digital bits (hah). In "Spy", they were able to showcase and celebrate the stunt crew IN THE FILM, and didn't need to publish some behind the scenes featurette. I wish they would go back to SHOW the real effort IN THE FILM, not beside it.

It really is so annoying that so many people who don‘t have a clue are now talking about CGI being bad and stuff. While there are so many examples of CGI enhancing story-telling and making it possible to tell stories which wouldn‘t have been possible without it.

Always took "Tom Cruise does his own stunts" to mean "Tom Cruise does his own stunts" rather than "no CGI is used in this film."

I'm with you, the motorcycle jump was ruined by the promos. The train sequence was a pleasant surprise, though. I enjoy the MI films for the spectacle and stunts, but I don't own any or rewatch them, and I couldn't recall any of the plots.

Please unionize, I feel that vfx artists are way to undervalued and under appreciated. It’s time that you show you vital you are to cinema and really show them. Just my opinion but I’m currently studying vfx and am really hesitant to look for work in the cinema production scene as it’s so underwhelming and instead will dive in advertising as you have more creative freedom, less demanding hours and more money and more appreciation. I really wish everyone gets together and actually does something i know it’s been talked about a lot too over the years

I appreciate all the effort that goes into the VFX but it is dangerous what general media is saying. On another note -out of all the stunts, the cliff jump was covered in marketing before the movie released! This was mentioned @9:37 Completely removed the magic and wonder for me, like when Marvel releases 10 second clips every other day leading up to a release. Also, why is it two parts? The title has now been changed but this franchise is teetering on the edge of becoming forgettable

Enjoyed this, I think VFX artists deserve recognition for their work, but ultimately most actors are going to promote acting in scenes above getting scanned and being replaced by CG doubles, they are naturally going to talk about something that excites them. Likewise it's human nature to be compelled by another human putting themselves in physical danger for entertainment, so I can see why you might centre your promotion of a film around that rather than a technical post-production process. I'm not trying to downplay the amount of creativity and hard work that goes into VFX but I think that is realistic. Going on strike for better working conditions and pay I support, but pushing the blame on this to how your work is reported on is a stretch, I think you should look at your employer the VFX companies for improvements to this.

For what a real being on top of a moving train is like, watch Sean Connery in the First Great Train Robbery 1978. It looks very dangerous and foolhardy.

Yes. It's done with optical illusion. Connery had ample time to duck down although it didn't look that way. Connery did that crazy stuntwork before Cruise was even an actor!

The reason why Dead Reckoning is considered a disappointment is because of its $300M production budget, so it didn’t break even in its theatrical window. Hopefully it made up for that shortfall on VOD.

Please! How can I fix rolling shutter in my plate ? Because it affect badly on camera tracking. when the camera move fastly it makes a skew or warp effect. The Foundry made a plugin to fix that before. But now it isn't available. And when the camera is static The rolling shutter still affect moving things It makes geometry tracking hard The things that moving fast make a shift and skew effect. Please help me to fix rolling shutter. Thanks ! ❤

Its not about that ALL is real. But just the fact that he DID some of the most dangerous stunts is AWESOME. He DID run on the Burj, he DID go into a F18, he DID train for that, he DID jump with the bike, and yes he has planes and multiple piloting skills, and other extreme sports track records. Is CGI involved ? Yes! Does it undo his stunts? Hell no! Who else does this today lets be honest... Guys dont you ever get pleased ? 😀What do you want him more to do ? LOL

its his selling point that he did all the stunts but hiding CG/vfx in media, ignoring and not telling everyone even mentioning the very big part of the movie VFx/CG is wrong.
@DGalious
@DGalious 5 месяцев назад
Yes, the bike jump was overhyped. It felt like you have seen it already all way through even before entering the cinema. And imho the final cut of that stunt would look way more impressive if they would have avoided jumping between 10 cameras in 20 seconds focusing so much on the valley instead of focusing on Tom. If we would see it from 2-3 angles, that would look way more believable. But at the end: - Naah.. the motorbike most likely had been replaced by CGI as well.

what was wrong here is using CGI to remove the ramp, it removes the element of it being a real stunt. And it would have been easy to fix just have in the movie a group of filmmakers filming a red bull stunt driving a motocross bike off the mountain. They are about to film the stunt went Ethan races past the stunt rider goes up the ramp and does the stunt first. That way you preserve the original ramp plus add a bit of humor into it.

If only all viewers were reading end credits instead of rushing outside for more popcorn, they'd realize almost every single movie contains VFX and CGI nowadays, even the ones with no stunts or fantastic events in them. Cruise, Nolan and their kind are just showing some huge lack of respect to VFX artists, promoting their movies by saying "all is true in front of cam" BS. After what happened To Rhythm & Hues Studios with LIFE OF PI, I don't understand they keep pushing some artists out of the big picture just to impress the audience with lies.

This whole "we made it for real, and tom criuse is saving cinema stuff" took the enjoyment away from watching the movie because I saw CGi and rotoscoping in the train sequence all the time. All lot of stones and smoke effects looked artificial. In the bike jump I was also wondering where all the shots are which I saw in the BTS doing them. Like flying really close over the ground, to big cameras attached to is parachute.

Cruise can be commended for doing his stunts, but to keep saying it's all real when you can clearly see it isn't, is a cop out. He's not like Jackie Chan in his heyday. Yes, Chan never did _all_ his own stunts but those big ones, you could see it was all him.

Interesting comparison of Mission Impossible to Star Trek. They've both gone too far from their intellectual roots and become about the action in search of the general audience.

All movies that have any vfx in it should have a badge on the cover, with the number of vfx shots in it. This will benefit everyone. Is ridiculous that this field of work that brings billions to studios and many companies, is so little know and worse, is hated by the public. Is like people are hatting the cook that makes them the food they love ! This is totally unacceptable and all vfx studios should go on strike unless this will change! Specially now that Ai video rendering is here.

Cruise didn't jump far off a ramp. That was the deception. He jumped off a ramp and was on a wire. He fell a few feet before the wire forced him upwards. The final edit in the film is an embarrassing cgi stick man figure falling hundreds of feet. 33:27 final cut in film. 33:37 alternative angle showing cgi Cruise falling. 33:47 wider angle showing cgi Cruise falling. 33:49 behind and below angle showing cgi Cruise falling. 33:52 helicopter angle of cgi Cruise falling. 33:57 close up angle of a cgi Cruise falling 34:00 close up of real Tom Cruise deploying real parachute. The sequence includes an awful moment when Hunt smashes inside a train carriage. Also poorly done.

It’s unemployed film students and other morons with copied opinions who keep insisting that “practical is always better”. Makes them sound smart and sophisticated.
