I think it is always a great decision to remodel old vacant buildings in the city and transforms it into someplace useful and beneficial for the surrounding neighborhood. I love seeing organizations like Midtown Cleveland bring new life into vacant buildings and properties...You guys are doing an amazing job of creating a better future!
It Should be Made in To A Place Homeless People Can Live There n Also Work in Other part of the buildings OMG SO HERE WE GO SOMEONE BUYING THIS BUILDING. N CONDOS WTH WTH CANT ANY OF YOU SEE THIS IS ALL ABOUT BECOMING MILLIONAIRES. STOP STANDING UP FOR THESE PEOPLE BUYING THIS BUILDING JUST TO BECOME MILLIONAIRES.
@@victoria859 Agree. If Sherrod Brown gets the 5 MILLION DOLLARS that he has requested, the TAXPAYERS, who can barely keep a roof over their heads, will be contributing, unwillingly, to their corporate profits! 😡
My grandfather worked at Warner and Swasey during WW II. He was drafted for the war but when the military learned he worked there he was told his skills are needed in that company to build the machines that will build the weapons. After the war he received a plaque from the Government in appreciation of his contribution to the war effort. He was then recruited by General Motors to be their Steel Inspector for the Chevrolet plant that was going to be built in Parma, and the plant is there to this day. Today, I am about to retire from the machine trades myself as a Journeyman Toolmaker, ironically, from the Ford Motor Company. I would love to tour the building and see where my grandfather worked before it is renovated. Also, as a filmmaker, it has an amazing look for certain kinds of scenes.
My father owned and ran a roofing company, just a block or two away from that factory. We saw it every time we visited him at his job. His business was at E.55th and a street named Longfellow. The buildings were torn down in the 1990s. They were erected in the 1930s. One was a large quonset-hut like structure, with a 2 story brick office building, in the front. I have one, in-tact black and white photo of his business, taken when he moved into the buildings, in 1940. I had it framed and under glass, in the 1980s.
What person is going for a walk at e55 and Carnegie? Lol does rent include a kevlar vest? Love the idea of repurposing old buildings and we definitely need low income housing, average rent for a crap apartment here is over $1000/mo, but the neighborhood isnt safe, work on that also.
Exactly!!! Do they even hear themselves? They think that we are not listening to their BS sales pitch? Ohio TAXPAYER'S are getting ripped off AGAIN. A project like this is ripe for money laundering, and corruption.
My only concern is given the building's age, will they be able to properly maintain it once it's converted to housing. Multifamily housing complexes take a lot of wear and tear, especially when they have larger numbers of units.
Midtown is still currently "no man's land" The lack of jobs, particular the industrial ones that used to be plentiful, is making it hard to turn that area of Cleveland east of the river into something meaningful. Not just housing, but jobs and stuff to do is required for success. It may be better to focus on what's currently there in the midtown area such as "Asia Town". Why do we have a large influx of international students from CSU and CWRU but poor retention? The culture and buildings are lacking when you compare them to NYC or Cali, but the opportunity is huge. Speaking as a blasian, I'd love to see that area be more than a few blocks you pass by unaware until May when they have a festival. We could turn Cleveland from being one of the most segregated cities to one that rivals any other
@@kristenmarie9248 This is taxpayer money well invested to make the neighborhood safer and better. Good for Sherrod Brown for thinking of inner city neighborhoods, instead of tax giveaways to the Billion dollar oil companies and top 1%^ like the republicans historically do!
and the abandoned apartments can sit for 40 yrs til they decide to redo them for homeless? well in 40 yrs perhaps the bank pres will be homeless and wish he had some forethought
uh.. just a suggestion, but getting the people who cant afford housing out of cleveland makes FAR more sense than making more housing FOR the people who cant afford housing.
