This is a Missoula Montana travel guide from 2021. In this travel guide we explore Montana's second largest city behind only Billings. We take a look at downtown Missoula then head over towards the river where we check out the local hangout known as the "Wave". We tell you about some of the things to do in Missoula as well as discuss that fact that Missoula is a college town with an emerging technology and medical scene.

Lived right outside of Missoula for many years, maybe Missoula is welcoming newcomers but down the road not so much. You did not mention the terrible hard cold snow filled winters. Over the years I have seen lots of people move here but they move out after a couple years. Wages are low, winters are cold and it is expensive. Our locals are finding they can no longer afford to live in their homes because of high property taxes and rent is high. So that has a lot to do with how the locals feel about the new comers. Just thought I would share some of local feelings not all of us feel that way but oh Jeff now so so many do.

I was displaced from portland last year due to southern californians, I found a place way up in the woods at a more than affordable price. Within one year the owners of the property got the greed disease and because “their friends told them they could get more money” and “they saw houses selling in town for over .5mil” I now have a more than 50% rent increase. I have a great job and run my own business part time, I’m going to have to run from here soon too unfortunately…..

@@Caseyedwards-Turbojackelope I don’t have any answers. It’s still possible to eek out a living here, def more than portland, but this won’t last much longer. If you can work remotely, you’re going to have to live in one of those towns you drive by on a backcountry highway where you blink and you’ve passed through. Those two or three building towns where it looks like meth came in and ravaged it in a matter of days, those types of places are our only option at this point. Be ready to make 2hour trips to get stocked up on food and fuel, if you’re ever hurt you won’t be able to get help, this is the preapocalyptic world we live in.

Its really no different than if someone were to camp on your front yard. I get it though. It was the past. Don’t know about the growth thing. Some pretty substantial changes in the economy would have to happen. Right now anyone (who isn’t already established) besides wealthy people importing money can’t really afford to live in Missoula. Time will tell I suppose.

Camp along one of our rivers in town. Some people will come along and move you to a free motel. Do some paper work and you will get free medical and free dental. Free meals. City will not arrest you because jail is a revolving door. Some of our new residents think jail is a luxury motel in the winter. Putting you in an apartment looks better than having you in jail and creates a housing shortage. City is creating a homeless problem in order to make a solution. What is Mayor Engen's solution? The largest drug treatment center in USA. The largest mental health treatment center in USA. City is buying property and zoning for such a thing on West Broadway. Called a Green economy. I have lived in Missoula since 1960. You want all the things to do, move to Portland Oregon. There is much more variety of activities. Drug related crime here is getting out of control and more police is not working. Higher taxes with no results. People are people no matter how many trees you have. The city's actions encourage all the unfortunates of other towns to come here. Professional tax leeches.

I lived in Msla in the early and mid '70s. I was happy to call it my home, made many friends during my brief college days. Then I left with a young girlfriend, whom I married and much later divorced. The Puget Sound area of Seattle and into the west slope of the Cascades can do that to couples. Anyway, Msla has changed from the old days. Not sure I'd want to live there again, even if I could afford it. Have no problem with it being a liberal bastion of the western part of the state. I don't like newcomers moving here for reasons you mentioned.

I moved to MIssoula in 1986. Folks weren't very welcoming to people from out-of state even back then. . Thanks for sharing. MIssoula is a great place to live. But even when I moved here in 1986, people weren't very welcoming to people from out of state. which was absurd because my family has lived in Missoula since 1921.The field behind sentinel high school is named Stegner field after my grandfather who was a well known and successful track coach. so if I was coach's granddaughter it was okay if I moved here. Of course we used to come up here to visit my grandparents and cousins every summer. Oddly, I ended up with the original mortgage documents to my grandparents house on Plymouth in the slant streets. they paid $900 for it in the 1930s. those prices are long gone in MIssula now. I don't think that you can even rent an apartment for that amount of money. and you certainly can't buy a house.

The only people that I know who leave asap are doctors who find the liberal Missoula is a right wing pseudo-liberal place c ranchers and environmentalists united together in order to preserve their property. A seldom mentioned but significant group hidden 1 -2 miles outside of town are ‘retired bikers’, retired drug dealers, retired longshoremen and other assorted rough people. It’s not a particularly wholesome place. Actually “A River Runs Through It” is a tragic and brutal story. An even better tale of the real Montana is”The Power of the Dog”. Nobody in Montana has seen or heard of that movie. Haha. Poor quality & poor selection of resturants but it’s great for Missoulans.

Nice music nice tutorial nice video, but let me ask you this, sir? I've traveled the world for years and I've seen development large cities and backwoods. I've seen places that. communities want people to come in and communities that want people to stay out. Very rarely have I heard anything in my short experience and soon to be again. where locals actually invite people to come in to develop their beautiful state. in so many ways.. Overdevelopment Are you promoting over development? Are you promoting people from California? Oregon, FL Wisconsin, Chicago, NY Russia. The entire world to come in and develop Montana and become another. Colorado hot spot play zone that just destroys the land just for tax money? just for places where people come to visit and enjoy their. time off and can't find servers because their servers aren't being paid enough. So they say by restaurants or hotels and then everything gets out of control. Nobody can find a place to live. because they have to work there and they can only make $10 on the $1000 that they actually work 75 hours a week on just as satisfied tourists just to live a dream to enjoy what Montana was once and now is becoming because you believe that the City Council will make it work for people to live in the forest that will cut trees down seriously.? Beautiful video. Think it up again. Thank you for sharing. God bless. don't ruin Montana.

You mean native Montana as in indigenous Native Americans and not Anglo Americans right? Unless you’re NA then you’re just as an immigrant as the Californians as well.

@@aether4554 No. I think he means, people from Montana who lived there before trash Californians from San Fransisco migrated across the country to every nice place they could find to avoid fixing their communist hellhole of a state. That they destroyed and refuse to fix or acknowledge. And then pseudo their way out of constructive self analysis by embuing themselves with a Native American likeness. As if there is any similarity, whatsoever. Natives respect the land. Californians trash it. Which is why every National Park in the state now requires permitting, and people can't even go visit yellow poppy fields. Then they cry "THATS NOT ALL OF US". Yes. Yes it is. These people destroyed Bend Oregon too. And Colorado. And Texas. And Arizona. And basically everything they touch. Because they're an incognizant disease of state programmed social media junkies and tech addicts who have a disconnect with themselves and everything around them.

Texans have ruined Montana the most. But everyone scapegoats on Californians because it's trendy. Most Californians are pretty chill except Bay Area hipsters. It's a big state and very rural and red.

Thomas's last name was pronouced Mar as in the planet without the S. There is also a county named after him. As any local if I am right.

Itll be nice to go home without having to deal with all the traffic and commotion i get in Western Washington. And it seems very truck friendly unline washington
