During the college football game between Kentucky and Missouri, Missouri was ready to get the ball down 21-17 with a few minutes left. Then, in a seemingly lucky moment, the ball was snapped over the Kentucky punter's head and rolled toward the end zone. As Missouri attempted to chase him down, he somehow got a punt off and get blasted right after. This resulted in a roughing the kicker call that gave Kentucky an automatic first down. After the call, Kentucky was able to run more time off the clock before giving the ball back to Missouri who failed to score on their last possession.

It’s not a legitimate penalty. He was a ball carrier and you can hit him the fact that he tries to kick the ball less than half a second before tackle is irrelevant. The defense has a right to tackle the ball carrier. It’s literally impossible to stop in the middle of that tackle so there is no intent of roughing the kicker and it’s literally impossible to call that roughing the kicker
@MrRrusiii
@MrRrusiii Год назад
@@i-primeproductions1517 He's not a ball carrier the moment he kicks it. The ball touches his foot and the defense no longer has the right to tackle him, but since that was what happened, Goodfellow earned the first down.

@@MrRrusiii Correct. The moment he kicks you can’t tackle him. However, you can’t act as a ball carrier and then try to kick the ball as you’re being tackled and still claim to be a kicker. How about when a quarterback slides at the last second and a perfect form tackle becomes targeting? That's 15, first down, and ejection. I've seen that one far more than this. In terms of the rules, it's a cut and dry Roughing The Kicker call. The ball was snapped, the punter successfully kicked the ball forward behind the line, the kick was not deflected, and then the kicker was (clearly) roughed a split second after the kick. But in fairness to the Missouri player, he didn't think there was any way in hell that kicker would get the ball and successfully kick the ball forward before tackling him, and if he hadn't, it would have been a legal tackle. Just a GREAT play by the kicker to chase down, secure, and kick the ball before anyone got to him. I hope his injury isn't too serious.

That was one of the most bizarre plays i ever seen . I think unfortunately it was the right call . By rule if it wasn’t tipped or blocked or touched by a Missouri player he has the right to kick the football. The player at that point thought he was just tackling the ball carrier. You can’t coach a situation like that . Hats off the punter he was committed to his job .

You can definitely coach that situation. It should be the first thought in his head as the ball goes over the punter's head. You don't go for a tackle until he tucks the ball like a ball carrier. @@itsmejongee Why would you ever tell your punter to burn time by running around, getting outside the tackle box, and potentially have him take an unnecessary hit to try and kick it at the last possible moment? That's just retarded, and the penalty prevents an otherwise great defensive play and in a round about way, villainizes them instead because the punter didnt have the comprehensive awareness to either tuck the ball, or throw it away.

@@BroMontana25 Punters hang back all the time when not pressured so coverage makes it down field. You just dont like that he missed the snap, managed to recover and make a great play within his rights... and once again a trash missouri team loses.
