As you may know, I've been building a custom house in Kansas City, Missouri as an owner-builder. It's been a long, tough road with many obstacles in between, but the build is finally almost complete, and I figured I'd share the process with you all, how much it costs to build a custom house in 2022, and the mistakes I've made along the way.
It's no easy task, nor is it cheap, but overall, it's an experience I'm glad to have gone through, and I can't wait to see the final result. Hopefully this video clears up some questions for anyone wanting to be an owner-builder, or for anyone trying to design their own house - and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask in the comments! I was the owner builder/general contractor on my first home not far from this house . This house in this video looks like a complete disaster, my job site was kept clean and tidy every step of the way. I’m starting another build for myself this summer and will keep it organized and neat every step of the way. I think this guy has more money than common sense . Some of the mistakes he talks about should have never happened even to the inexperienced builder . This is simply a good example of someone with a lot of money that doesn’t care .!

Yes, it's my first time doing some of the things here, & I have a lot going on so it's tough to manage it all. I do care but I would hope my team keeps things tidy themselves too

I don’t know if his biggest “mistake” was allowing for such a dangerous mess on the job site, or documenting it with a video. I’m impressed that he’s not embarrassed. It makes me not want to be in Kansas anymore.

One thing I hate about videos like this is how no one talks about how that 650k would be ~300k if you did it yourself lol

Lumber lumber laying everywhere. Real builders wouldnt be putting up with framers who were that careless with an expensive item.

By the way I’m an Electrical Contractor trying to understand certain things what exactly is the lumber package does that include all the framing moisture barrier decking etc.

I think the reason most cookie cutter home floorplans look like they were designed by someone that is scatterbrained is because they are. And then someone even more scatter brained approves it.
