I love it when you get a good striker who is also very good at jujitsu so he’s not bothered by the takedown

Thanks a lot Joe. I’ve been competing in K1 and Muay Thai for about 6 years, now I am making a transition to MMA and will be having my first amateur fight in the next few months. This was extremely helpful ! 😄

watch this and it'll save you years of transition time. It took me 2 years to figure this out on my own and how to adjust my muay thai accordingly and at that time this info was sprinkled all around the internet and you had to piece it all together and stress test it. This video has it all! The only thing I would add is the importance of stance switching/ shifting in mma to control the distance. Kickboxing and Muaythai is more static and you will get away with learning striking in only one stance and defenseive manuveurs like the shell. In mma its much more dynamic and you are going to need the angles for your defense and offense as well as the large amount of distance you gain by shifting forward or backward. As mma evolves, beeing able to fight in both stances will become the standard 100% sure of that

I was thinking that Joe would have done really well in MMA. He would have easily been one of the best strikers (power + technique) in the Welterweight division and with some good TD defence, would have been a real threat to the top UFC 170 pounders. I haven't seen many UFC fighters land leg kicks as well as him.

Another great video! Spot on as always Joe!!! Especially the Dutch shell thing. I think that's kind of what happened to Gokhan Saki (even though i know it's different because he got countered throwing a low kick). But taking away that sheild that many kickboxers rely on (due to the size of the gloves) can f with the fighters natural rhythm- being used to relying on that in their sport. Man I would love to see more of that stuff that John Wayne Parr is doing- kickboxing rules with MMA gloves and an octagon.

The stance and techniques you described is very similar to sports points Karate especially the stance and not leading with kicks. Because Connor M used a sports Karate stance zip in zip out block with the front hand.

Joe has some mileage on him, that's why he left the kickboxing game in the first place. He seems happy as commentator and educator, similar to Askren leaving competition to run his own gym. Not every great mind needs to be in the octagon.

What fighting style works best in a street fight/bar fight? (if you can’t avoid it)
@animatronix5676

mma for a street fight is the best, it teach you how to fight in any way, standing and on the ground. I honestly wouldn't feel safe defending in the street without having a good foundation in any martial art and mma teach it

In my utmost humble opinion. “ Nothing more rewarding than getting ones thesis validated by those who exceeds oneself in excellence” “ True wisdom equates to correct comprehended knowledge appropriately applied “ “ Fighting is relativity in motion, never expect only respond as it one’s opponent within context that dictates tactics” Not only is this beyond sound advice in regards to the discrepancies between the different arts, but also depicts why MMA striking in concordance with the ability to integrate/ transition between the levels and ranges of what overall fighting entails, this in turn also enables oneself to be formidable in its utilization in the realms of self defense as well, add in headbutts/ and comprehension of modifications in regards to appropriate application demanded by the context, ( standing takedowns that enables seamless transitions for back takes/ mount/ sidecontrol in concordance with high yield submissions ) then one will be formidable in one’s adaptability within the different arts, as well as capable in self defense, if so needed. Amazing content and an honor to be able to observe and learn from such an peer as yourself Sir. Sincere regards. Fellow Martial artist. Tom Framnes. Norway.

Very interesting as this is exactly what differentiates Muay Thai Boran from modern Muay Thai. Muay Boran is perfectly taking these points into account. In fact, Muay Boran was MMA before centuries ago.
