Y'all... WinSCP combined with Notepad++ is an absolute MUST. You can integrate Notepad++ into the WinSCP interface as a default text editor (not difficult to do at all) and enjoy the convenience of a great text editor that can 1) indicate what lines you've edited 2) auto-fill variables for you / remind you what they are (vsync_adjust etc) and best of all 3) when you hit the save button... It uploads the text file automatically. So convenient. This saved my life when I was tweaking my video settings per-core on my LG C1. *PS - The Failed message that Etcher gives you is 100% fine. I think that it's trying to mount a drive that it can no longer read because it's Linux now.
I have set up probably like 12 MiSTers for people over the last 6 years or so…and I like to watch videos like yours to see if I can learn anything new. I learned like 3 things I can do from your video. Really appreciate it!

Strangely it actually rebooted for me, didn't turn off like yours. Also the verification process with etcher, mine verified fine but then I was just wondering if you perhaps were using a SD to microSD card adapter because those can be a "hit and miss" and why I never use them. Raspberry pi also recommend to use a USB writer only and not use the SD card adapters because they are problematic.
On a new 256GB sd card, after the Mr Fusion screen at 3.13 , the installation finishes (?) and I get a black screen, nothing happens, no matter what I do, seems the sd card is not fit for the board.
Amazing video Lu. Good change of pace and a great up to date referesher! , you should make more setup tutorials or a overview of the update all features. i think seeing how the arcade organizer works would be nice to see the differences in how it sorts games out.
Yeah some of the functions aren’t immediately clear. I love using the bgm script to play radio or MP3s in the menu - there’s a bunch of stuff to explore.

It tries to sync with the ntp server but fails. I tried pinging google and it works. I tried pinging the Mister ip from my PC and it works but the Mister says no internet connection when I try to run scripts.
Thanks for your video! I used this and the knowledge of a friend to get my Mister going yesterday. I know it is laborious, with minimal returns but it would be cool if you added timestamps.

You'll have to configure your router to assign a permanent IP address to the MiSTer. All routers work differently so you'll have to refer to the router manual.
The switches should be left at their default positions. But if they are not they should all be set to the position away from the FPGA chip. This site shows you how misterfpga.co.uk/mister-de10-nano-switch-configuration/
@@LusRetroSource What matters, in the picture on that page, is the position of the small 6 way DIP switch, marked SW10. That tells the FPGA how to boot from the micro SD card. I just watched another video by you, called "MiSTer FPGA - Minimal Setup How-To", and was a bit baffled that you drew attention to the four user toggle switches, but not the DIP switches. I'm not trying to be critical, it's just that this matters. Hopefully, that's how the DE10-Nano is shipped, but if not, or if people have tried setups that use different DIP switch settings, they're not going to be able to get it to boot without setting it appropriately. So far, I've tried a few different Linux setups, and just using it as a straight FPGA, without the ARM core. That's involved at least three different settings on the DIP switches. Trying MiSTer is next, for me. I didn't buy it for that, but i do want to try it, which is why I was interested in your minimal setup.
@@TooSlowTube Thanks for the info. I'll add a note to the description regarding the dip switch. I've built several MiSTer setups and there was one setup that required you to change the toggle switches, so that is why I mentioned them. In case people are moving from a setup that required you to change those. I've never had to adjust the dip switch so the default must be what MiSTer needs. Anyway it's good to know that info and thanks!

I've struggled to understand how to set the DIP switches a few times because the manuals tended to describe them as on or off, without saying which position was which, or show a line drawing in black and white without saying which color represented the lever of the switches. An actual photograph definitely works best for that.

Update All uses the downloader script to update. It just adds extra databases that pulls more cores and utilities. You can still use your own customizations with it.
