For anyone who enjoys some of the pre-9/11 "slacker" style movies, you owe it to yourself to watch some Pete & Pete (& the shorts that led to the series for that matter). Really looking forward to when Pop Arena covers it in full on Nick Knacks. They just put up their Clarissa Explains It All episode today (also their 100th).
@@VideoGameEsoterica I just wonder why no one else talk about it. I always feel weird when I mention it and no one, but I mean no one, either saw it, or remember it. It's so good. Thanks for showing me I'm not crazy and there are more smart people in the world.
So glad you're covering this. I feel like this is a huge break though. If we could figure out a way to cast from a phone I feel like getting video content on crts will never be a hassle again.
I'm still trying to understand why this is a better option than just connecting a PC direct, like we have been doing for 20-30 years? Sure, "new" video cards might not support analog + 15khz, but still.. Cool hack, tho.
Wait what ! Sound is streamed to ? Incredible ! I purchased my mister 3 years ago. It was expensive but it turned out it was the absolute best value for my money. So many new things happened since then.
You always come through for me. I am super stoked to try our MiSTerCast this weekend and your walk through will help me achieve that. Oddly I am most looking forward to watching old Local on the 8’s weather channel broadcasts from the mid 90’s lol. To see that again on a CRT with that funky musac will be nostalgic bliss.
This is so cool, has there been any further updates? I'm hoping to join the Mister gang with the Taki clone and wondered if something like this was possible to play older video content to my PVM. Shame there isn't mac support but I have an old Windows mini htpc (AMD 3400G, 16GB RAM) which should be capable
Props for using The Adventures of Pete and Pete with MiSTerCast! It is still one of my favorite shows of all time. I have the box sets, original TV broadcast recordings, even the mail away music cassette tape you got from eating cereal :) I need to get this set up ASAP! I might be more excited for watching TV shows than playing MAME games with this!
I have the GroovyMister core and the modified Mister main, but when I click on "Start Stream" from Mistercast my CRT TV (running the Groovy core) just shows garbage instead of mirroring my computer monitor. Does anyone know where I messed up? I'm connecting over wifi, not sure if that's the problem.
Man Pete and Pete, that episode where Endless Mike decides to join his highschool wrestling team just to fuck with Pete was legendary. Freaking amazing.
LOL @ pete and pete, I remembered it existed seeing that intro for the first time in a million years. 90s was peak kids tv time. I'm gonna throw family matters and dinosaurs thru this mistercast! And yo, groovy mister as a whole is pretty cool, but damn groovy mame always sending shitty aspect ratio lookings games over. All arcade cores for mister output solid no fuss no fiddling analog out to CRT, but groovy mister outputs narrow squashed games ....
Question, im not very experienced in emulation but I was thinking of getting a misterfpga.. I already have a pc psp & 3ds. Is it the most ideal way to play most arcade games? Buriki one etc..Would just like some insight before I spend money
Thank you for providing such thorough instructions for Groovy mister and cast. I followed it all to a tee, and worked like a charm. Much kudos to you sir!
I hope it won't be too long until GroovyMister gets moved into Update All - I'm so excited about this but don't really want to fool around with the unstable builds
The Tink downscaling is just easier to use on consoles. I don’t know if you could send a PC signal in easily then downscale it. This solution is very PC centric for Steam and other platforms like it
hi @@VideoGameEsoterica thanks a lot to reply me, and... i think so... the PVM is a Sony 1942Q by Component, and in mister cast im sending 256x240 (60hz) and also 320x240 (60hz) and neither is sending anythin just a black screen or the 3 color logo is apering moving left to rigth at high speed (dont know if makes sense?)
Hey guys, I have GroovyMiSTer running perfectly directly from my pc ethernet to my MiSTer with an ethernest patch cable. But for some reason the second I attempt to "Start Stream" on MisterCast MisterCast crashes and I have to reboot .... I'm attempting to run on my Windows 7 PC ... could this be the issue? Does this only run on Windows 10 or above?
@@VideoGameEsoterica If you mean unstable groovy main, yes. Got it running now, seems everything was set up correctly but not running on first and second try. Playing around with my PVM 20M4E and MiSTerCast, it is amazing. THX for your content!
Cool project. I just think it's funny everyone suddenly cares about downscaling when it's on MiSTer suddenly. I've been working on good downscaling solutions for years now. 🤣🤣 Again, fantastic looking and a great project.
@@VideoGameEsoterica I haven't been able to find a manual for my TV so I'm generally stuck with everything aligned slightly left. It's not the end of the world but it is a little annoying.
Yeah, the potential here to watch old TV made for 4:3 is incredible. Also will be really curious to see how stuff like Towerfall and Shovel Knight look. I gave up on trying to use CRTdriver - fortunately this sounds infinitely easier!
#1 480p or lower copies of SD shows will finally happen (albeit with more equipment then one would like) #2 Using a laptop might be the best scenario for this as long as you're not playing power hungry games #3 ReDream on CRT = YAY!!!
I was pretty hyped to try this. And it DOES work, which is an amazing accomplishment. In its current form, it's kind of a massive pain in the ass to set up and use though, it's far from something you can daily drive, unfortunately. Biggest issue for me is I have to set my PC monitors down to 60hz, which is kinda tedious to start, then lining up the cropped part of the screen is just a bastard sometimes. It's sick as is, but I hope it sees more updates, cus I honestly want to use this for day to day gaming.
Great video. Not sure if things have changed since watching previous tutorial videos but waiting until the Groovy stuff hits the official MiSTer core before trying (I think you needed an experimental build to get working before).
@@VideoGameEsoterica worst of all is I don’t even have a crt, I mostly play on monitor, so I need the crt to go with the mister… it never ends, but maybe that’s also the fun of it lol
I got blazed with Little Pete like 10 years ago😂. He was playing bass in a band at a local bar and I asked him if he wanted to drop by my music studio across the street with some people for an after party and he did! He definitely wasn’t pumped about still being known as Pete, but he was super cool.
I frickin love this, will be fantastic for RU-vid, especially the 240p videos, I love watching old ad reels for instance, or lost media uploads on RU-vid, and it also puts a new light on my vast GOG collection, many of which will look beautiful in 240/288p or 480/576i.
@@VideoGameEsoterica You know you can use an OSSC or Tink with it too, if 480p/576p ever becomes part of MiSTerCast, combines with a Tink or OSSC and the like, it will be useful for running with higher res CRTs too, as well as for streamers.
@@VideoGameEsoterica You can have the MiSTerCast sending 240p, being sent to the MiSTer GM core being line doubled to 720x480p via a GBS-C (can add scanlines too) or whatever you have/use, great for progressive widescreen CRT TV's, crunchyrole looks so damn good with some scanlines, as do older low res RU-vid vids, I'd love it if they could make a VGA RAMDAC core for MiSTer, with a 400Mhz pixel clock, there are no good external HDMI to RGB/VGA DAC's over 200Mhz.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Reason I need to wait is I'm recapping my 20M4E and all the boards are still out. Thinking Alan Wake 2 will be super impressive with this!
"Play Doom 2016 on a CRT in 4:3 ?" No, I wouldn't. Infact, I wouldn't want to play ANY of my Library on a 15hz CRT, that would be silly. These PC games look best on modern displays, especially modern OLED displays with HDR, 4k, etc... Old PC games, as far back as the late 80s, were VGA, not 15hz 240p, and ran on VGA monitors, and later - SVGA monitors.
You can do the same with composite cable and any CRT, without mister. I've been doing this for years already. There are a good choice of hdmi to component/composite/scart converters. And they are cheap. You can easily watch your retro anime this way, having great analog vibes.
