I think only in Ireland would you find this lack of thought. It delays any turn out and reversing is dangerous to any passing pedestrians. Only another 50 feet of 'no parking' is needed.
The fire station in Mitchelstown is situated on a residental street, the building used was repurposed for use as a fire station about 4 decades ago and has served the community well. Mitchelstown is scheduled to receive a new purpose built fire station in the coming years, until then the present property will continue to serve the community.
I can hear a radio in the background, can ye? Just after the "beep" of the "MTI" and as A1 is driving off, "Charlie Kilo (two)? six.... and can't make out the rest
Clearly you know very little about the fire service. This is a retained on-call station, and what you actually witnessed here was, for a retained station, a VERY QUICK turnout.
All the firefighters in this crew and throughout all the smaller urban areas of Ireland and the globe are retained or part time, all have had to leave their place of work or home to attend these fire calls, response time varies between 5 to 8 minutes depending on traffic conditions and or the time of day. 5 to 8 minutes are excellent response times for any part time fire service any where in the world. Less negativity and more respect, thank you.
You'd think that somebody would have the common sense to restrict parking along there so that the trucks could make it out without having to back up. I mean, they are EMERGENCY vehicles after all, responding to EMERGENCIES. I guess until someone on the town council, or the mayor has an EMERGENCY they have to wait for a firetruck for, it will remain this way. Absolutely ridiculous.
