Mitigokaa = There are a lot of trees
Ojibwe word of the day!
Learning languages is fun and good for the mind, body, and spirit. I love learning, teaching, and sharing about the Ojibwe language. It’s amazing that in spite of 500 pretty rough years, we still have indigenous languages and cultures to share. Our ancestors paid dearly so we could have them today. Every word we learn honors our ancestors and future generations. Miigwech!
The translation of this word is written above and in the video.

@@PFCranssen I think - right now? This is my newest favourite! TY so much for the education so many were deprived of under ongoing colonialism. I couldn't love this channel more!!!! ❤️

@@AmberAmber I have a sneaking suspicion that prof. Treuer is a pillar of the Ojibwe community. These daily uploads are a great way to (re-)learn some of the language.

@@PFCranssen It's beautiful - I feel very lucky. I'm trying to learn in honour of my sister in law - she's passed away but her Ojibwe roots meant a lot to her. I also want to learn because my ex-husband is part Ojibwe & part - i forget (covid ruined my memory) - so it will be nice to teach to our grown children and our grandbaby too! XOXOXOXO 🫂🫂🫂

@@AmberAmber There’s a very distinct melody to the Ojibwe languages, making them attractive languages to learn. Beautiful that you’re investing time and effort in passing on your children’s indigenous heritage. I am trying to re-learn the basics in honour of a few elderly Chippewa from north of Toronto who I met when I lived there years ago. I’ll be back there again for work at the end of this year, so I do have a bit of a deadline.
