Along with the usual lifeforms I've seen under the microscope, I noticed these "peanuts" swimming around. Further research identified them as Ciliate Oxytricha, and these are in the act of mitosis, or cloning.
Oxytricha divides asexually, which means a new individual is generated from a copy of a single cell from the parent organism. This happens using binary fission. During binary fission, a single organism becomes two independent organisms. The result produces clonal offspring, a genetically identical copy of a cell or an organism.
I was able to capture these photos and videos using a Tomlov DM202 Max microscope, focally situated at about 1.5 cm from the specimen slide.
