Are you afraid to get Mitral Stenosis for Clinical Viva? Don't be & Revise it here.
Mitral valve disease is a commonly examined scenario in OSCEs and is summarised here with audio for revision.
Mitral stenosis is usually caused by Rheumatic heart disease.
It causes mid diastolic murmur which is a low pitched murmur best heard in left lateral position on cardiac apex & with bell of the stethoscope.

Worsening means the S1 will be louder. And opening snap closer to S2.
@PracticalMedicine
@PracticalMedicine 5 лет назад
The more opening snap closer to S2, more severe is the disease. However, louder S2 is not sign of severity but shows valves are still pliable.

@ 00:32 mark - it says "second heart sound (S2) is normal". - but this is a mid-diastolic (S2) murmur....?

I don't hear the opening snap
@PracticalMedicine
@PracticalMedicine 5 лет назад
Opening snap may not always be present. It can be heard as long as mitral valves are pliable. Once calcified, opening snap vanishes
