So... I've always been a huge fan of music, music in general I mean, and I've always listened to many music genres (my knowledge of singers and songs is pretty vast). Music is my relief valve. I use it to reflect, to study, to cry, to feel better and so on. Mitski... To me, this is the most beautiful, poetic and heavenly song I've ever heard. I don't "want to", I "need" to thank you for the release of this masterpiece. Maybe I'll sound too exaggerated, but this song has to be nominated as one of the most enchanting songs ever. It is estatic! The music, the instruments, your voice! Everything in this song reaches directly the soul.

The idea to climb up all the chairs is amazing. The way i interpret it is, sitting down on a chair is easy. Everyone can sit. But not her. She has to climb up all the most differently chairs just so she can finally be seen. But still, her love is all hers. No one sees it, no one appreciates it. Its so do creative. At least thats how i would understand it.

Mitski's music videos feel more like short films than just pretty pictures to accompany her music. This video doesn't need the song to make sense, but the song and the video compliment each other and I feel that they convey the message that she's trying to get across very well. She's very skilled in her artistry and I really like being able to experience her art.

the chair represents suicidal thoughts and the egg represents heartbreak. The video shows how difficult it is to overcome those suicidal thoughts and your loss and finally pull your life together. It is an optimistic video because in the end Mitski finally finds the perfect balance of her life with everything that she has gone through including her heartbreak. This also goes to show how trauma makes the balance of life very unstable and makes recovery highly challenging. I gotta say that this video's symbolism is absolutely genius!

Working for the industry, that was mentioned in an interview, is her main reason for her past hiatus. Still alone, she uses the chair to elevate herself to the "hole of light". The symbolic meaning of the chair stands out throughout the video. The recurrence of this furniture is in both the artist's songs and live performances. She pushes the chair, that was used at the beginning, due to her decision to step away from social media and any type of limelight. The scattered, disorganized area of the chairs, however, can resemble the absence of her inspirations behind her songs. She builds a tower from this disarray which creates her start for her journey in self-acceptance. That structure can fit any type of chair as long as the furniture is stable and can support other parts of the build throughout the process. The long shots of her continuous climb could hint at her shaky experience from developing albums and finishing her past contract with her music label. Most of the imagery about the moon is based on Tsukimi, a Japanese moon viewing festival. This celebration is about an upcoming harvest falls on the 15th day of the 9th month, the same day as the release date for her new album and this music video. Mitski wears a white nightgown that help "shine" the light around her. She picks up an object throughout the video that also signifys as the moon. The egg that she holds onto not only represents as an offering for the harvest. She fits this delicacy below the stacked wooden chairs which signifies her present life as the "foundation" of the pile. The first shot of this video has Mitski pulling out a flower from the damage, a signal to change for her own happiness. Can the cracks from the broken egg reveal her ability to move forward from her past (and the possible acceptance about gender identity)? The music video doesn't show Mitski falling from the chairs or how the egg truely breaks. Rather, the last shot opens to her hand as an aperture where she is able to control what she can look forward to in the future: the beauty of a new day.

At first, hearing the chorus I thought she was singing about a lover or object of affection, but hearing it in full and watching the video i'm realizing she's talking about herself. "nothing in the world belong to me" - she's used to feeling lonely even surrounded by people. lovers, friends and even family come and go and don't really stay in her life forever. she also mentions mortality and dying in the first verse, maybe realizing her mortality after a family member has passed or because of a breakup. "but my love is mine all mine" - in the aftermath of loss she realizes she only has herself and the love and self-fulfillment she feels from living truly as herself that can keep her living another day. it's such a beautiful song for self-love and independence. In the video she's building chairs to get to the top and in the end it's presumed to get a better view of the moon. Perhaps the character thinks by getting closer to the moon she'll obtain what she wants (love that never ends, companionship, never having to be alone) but she's kept the chairs together held by a fragile egg at the bottom. I think the egg could mean a fragile relationship with a lover, or an overdependence on other people in general. It's the first time I'm hearing this song outside of social media, and hearing the lyrics I'm blown away.
