this is exactly how i feel about my 'situationship'. there's this girl I've dated in the past, our whole relationship was private. shes a closeted girl, religious family, religious friends, good reputation in our pretty homophobic school. I'm the complete opposite, I'm known as the weird gay girl. even though we had to love each other in private, everything was so real and pure. we'd find times to meet up outside of school, we'd spend all day messaging each other, we planned a future together, everything was so real. I've dated other girls in the past, ones that I've even had public relationships with, but none were as good as this. we loved each other so so much. about a month and a half into our relationship, we had to part because of personal issues, but we still really did love each other. i was too dumb to see that she still loved me, id get mad at her and think she didn't want me, we completely stopped talking for a month. in that time, she started talking to a boy. they started dating. eventually, I got back in contact with her. we talked it through. we just kept talking as friends, but eventually I had to tell her that I still love her and I always will. she told me that she feels the same way. we are so obviously in love, still in private. shes still in a relationship with the boy I mentioned earlier. she tells me she ignores everyone and talks to me. she tells me she only needs me in this world. i really love this girl so much, I really hope we can have the future we planned together eventually. if you ever see this kris, I love you so much man, I always will.

Another one of my favs, this song showcases what I like about Mitski: she's talented in writing condensed pop songs that aptly express emotional longing for someone. I couldn't help but read the lyrics as queer-coded, especially when she sang: "But with everybody watching us We do have reputation We keep it secret Won't let them have it" As someone who lives in a homophobic country, I can relate to the lyrics, because they remind me of the countless times I am forced to love someone in silent, hidden away from the public's watchful eyes because we have reputation to keep. Of course, you can also interpret it as talking about forbidden love in general. But that's the power of art right? Art can be interpreted in any way as one pleases, just like Mitski's songs.

As a trans guy, i feel this song in my soul. I can't transition, nor socially or hormonally, for reasons that would put me, my financial life and my health at risk. So, basically, although the partners i had knew and accepted me, their families, who were conservative in all the situations I've been, didn't knew. It felt like my partner liked me, but was afraid of other discovering this about me, were ashamed of me, and for that, i feel disgusting sometimes, undeserving of love. I am afraid of even trying to transition, but i can't be the way i am right now for the rest of my life, it's agonizing, and the feeling of loving someone so hard, and being loved back, but hiding your love (or at least, the most important aspects of it) from the world is frustrating. Mitski just captured this so perfectly im this song, i feel a bit less alone.
