I’m 57 and I’ve been looking into buying one of these since it’s a great example of the innovations we saw during the 80’s. When they were new it was mind blowing to see it function. The inner workings on these units is amazing to watch.

Great to see this up and running. My parents brought this back in the eighties, and it's sitting with it's speakers in a box in the garage. Really interested to see if it will still work now. Of course, all my cassettes from back then are probably stuffed from humidity and being 40 years old 😁

I purchased one of these systems new in the early '80s. Also had a custom cabinet made up to store the unit, speakers, tapes (in draws) & records (vertically in slots). Then, in the early '90s, some bastard stole it!!!

I enjoy watching your repairs Nick. I found that using a plastic solvent often works better than superglue. Oddly enough Ether is quite a good solvent for acrylic. I still use a bottle off Dichloromethane or methylene chloride which is even better.

Quite a complex piece of kit. Can you imagine what it would cost today. Problem is no one would probably buy it. Was the cartridge a ceramic or magnetic type?

Looks like a P-mount to me so that would imply MM.

Really enjoyed the video, thank you for making it! I have this unit (complete with original speakers) and I love it so it was fascinating to see the interior workings. The unit that I have was left in a garage for many years and I recently took it to a shop to have it cleaned up and repaired, unfortunately the only feature they couldn’t get working was the vinyl track selection, supposedly because of a sensor that they couldn’t get a replacement for. Would you by chance know any way to repair the sensor or a place to find a replacement? Thank you so much!

Hi Alice Difficult one, as not looked at one of these for a while. There are a few sensors, is it the position one, speed, tracking (tracing)? Does the record play at all?

I just got a DA-L90 from a thrift shop and I can’t get it to open or switch inputs, will only stay on tape and won’t eject the tray. I took it apart and moved the motors by hand and everything seemed smooth. Any tips ?

I love these old Mitsubishi audio sets. Such a shame they pulled out of the European markets early, their stuff was so innovative and well-engineered (rather similar to the cars their sister corporation made -- highly intricate and complex but ran like a Swiss watch). If I had been old enough in the '70s (I was just a kid then) I think I'd have latched on to the Mitsu brand and bought a whole range of stuff from them. Was that really 1978? Looks positively futuristic for the time, I'd have placed it early to mid 1980s.

I just got hold of one of these - it plays 3 seconds of side A, auto reverses and plays 3 seconds of side B, then moves on to the next tape. I can't get it to play and keep playing....

I believe the program display went bad on my tape unit. Any idea where to get parts/fix it?

Excellent video, thanks so much for all the info! Inherited one from my friend but in bad condition. The 7 cassette changer system definitely needs a lot of love and is straightforward enough to repair. However the cassette player itself will play for a second or two then stop and change to the next cassette and doing the same thing. Would it just need a bit of tape cleaner or does that sound like something more serious?

Hi Olive It could be that the cassette does not turn easily and the electronics thinks the cassette has reached the end. So try and make sure the spooling mechanism is free and that the belts are not slipping.

LT-70 - This turntable was part of an integrated system: I only have the turntable and am trying to figure out how to make it work standalone. Is it possible?

Hi Nick, I have this record player which has been converted to work standalone. The issue I am having is when you power up the turntable. The record starts spinning right away and the stylus drops where it is. All buttons are fine and work. Which leads me to the cueing button. It tries to lift up from the record. But then it goes straight back down again. Any ideas on what I should be looking at? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-843_CRYFaU4.html
