As a 3g owner and fan of yours appreciate the video I got my gts for 2k 93,000 miles and has been a reliable fun convertible/sports car for me and I definitely push the car lol also those interested in the car it has a great stock exhaust and best bang for your buck for horsepower to price wise.
They sound like a Supra if you lop of the 40lb muffler and Put a clean polished chrome tip on the end. They are an interference motor based on the cyclone V6 so change out the timing Belt at 100k. They used to make headers for it that is a nice bump ,also Gasket match port the intake and exhaust side. Brian Crower makes or Made Cams for it. You might be able to Regrind the cam as well.
9:22 as an eclipse owner, I can agree that visibility is bad, it is hard to see out of the back, there is just some weird blind spots, but it’s not terrible.
Im considering picking one of these as a daily while i build the motor in my accord, they sound good with the right setup, and super reliable. I got a buddy on his 4th one because he keeps running them to 400k+ miles and then selling them to people doing Evo engine swaps lol
mark i jus got into cars like 2-3 months ago. i’m 17 . i love your videos especially the budget ones😂. i’ve been watching you i really wanna get car smart sum of the car guys in my community b hatin on me cuz i’m clueless i’ve learned a few things from you. but i love the videos . keep grinding you definitely deserve lots more subscribers and i wish that success for you. one of my favorite youtubers 👍🏻
Dw bro, we should all be tryna grow the community and not make fun of newcomers. Just keep learning, after all i think even car guys that are decades old learn new things everyday
You’re wrong about the engines not being able to make good power. The 4 cyl is actually the best 4 cyl Mitsubishi engine to fully build because its just a 4g63 but with bigger displacement and no forged internals so when u build the motor fully it results better than the eco engine
7:46 the 2.4 in the 3g is a super watered down evo motor, it’s in the same family, you can bolt it to evo transmissions, bolt evo heads to it, put the evo crankshaft in it, and a whole lot of other stuff. It just comes n/a with a restrictive sohc head and kind of weak pistons
I bought a 2003 GTS manual and it was a fun car. On long road trips, mpg was really good. I was lucky to get the 0% financing and paid it off in 3 years. It was great as long as you didn’t modify and kept up with the maintenance. I also kept it in the garage and had sun blockers so that saved the car big time while at work.
@@hazexo1131 hahaha bro I live in Goshen but I always set my radius to 500 miles so some are in New Jersey, New York, mass, etc. I bought my z in New Hampshire and my Integra in Massachusetts
@@markrodendamn u doing road trips for cars. i lived in Hartford CT for 6 months and the cars in CT itself were soo minimal it was crazy.. literally 90% of the cars on CT marketplace we’re OUT OF CT all the way in Rhode Island, New Jersey even Orlando
✨INSTANTLY clicked...That's my Eclipse in the thumbnail that I'm currently doing a build series on and I would love if you checked it out. I'm also local in CT as well. Nice vid, cheers brother! 🤘
Tbh I knew the car was going to be slow and have old worn out parts but i got it to learn about fixing up cars and i loved the body style also thought it’d be nice as my first car
Great video! Really informative. I seriously wanted a 3rd or likely 4th gen Eclipse, but with sub-par gas mileage and crampt space, I may never get one. I must ask where the Good Bad and Ugly on the Toyota Solara is though. I mean, it's a Camry, but cool. It only ran for 10 years, so research should be fairly easy. Videos on it get views because nobody talks about it and it can pop up with Camry results. Even just a mention in a deep dive on the Camry or a spot in your sports car listing would be great. I just want to show people that a Camry can be a sports car and get your take on it culturally where I'm lacking knowledge, as well as whether it's a good sporty daily or not. If you don't want to, just tell me.
i have both solara convertible and 4g eclipse, 4 gen eclipse- get the v6 manual, DO NOT GET THE AUTOMATIC, you will have more fun. the solara has huge trunk space and back seats are usable.
3G’s def have great tuning potential.. the 4g64 can handle a little bit of boost but the sohc limits it. A evo 8 4g63 cylinder head swap on the 4g64 block plus turbo is the solution & it’ll have better torque because it’s a 2.4l
As an owner of an 04 gt eclipse of 14 yrs now.... I agree with everything in this video. From horrible wiring to great looks/cosmetics. P.s. got it when i was 19 yrs old. Regrets? A couple. Want an eclipse? Get 2010 model. 265 hp more torque and at about the same price of a decent 3g eclipse better mileage at that. If you want an eclipse good luck finding a decent one (holy grail would be 2g GSX eclispe)
Pain in the ass to work on is an understatement lol. At least for the weekend home tinkerer. I have to agree with about every point you've made, but at the end of the day I simply love my GTS convertible. I wouldn't want anything else. I can't really explain it...
3G gang. I got a 2005 Spyder GTS. I plan on going all out with this thing man, building the engine with some good pistons and rods and going forced induction with it (turbocharging)
@@y0cdk You got the manual transmission? I do and it’s very fun to drive. I just recently started getting a tick sound, sounds like It’s coming from under the hood but I’m gonna go look into it more soon. I feel like it’ll be a costly repair but anything to keep my dreams moving and going lol.
I’ve owned this generation for 8 years now and the 4 cylinder is the motor you want the V6 is actually dog water. The only power upgrades for the 4clyd is turbo or head swaps everything will be Frankensteined together due to nothing being made for these cars a lot of the parts are disconnected and you’ll have to source them from a donor car … same with the V6 if you want power your only option is boost they no longer make the super charger. This car also isn’t Japanese it was made by Chrysler not Mitsubishi it shares the same body frame with the sabering …. BUT everything from before can be swapped with not much fab you can throw in a Evo motor / awd / ect can be put in the 3rd Gen
FYI the four cylinder has a bunch of aftermarket support from rpw(RacePerformanceWorks) in Australia I’m building the SOHC four cylinder with all their performance parts also the V6 you can also use rpw parts for them as well or swap to the 3.5 Liter 6G74 or 3.8 Liter 6G75 from the 4g eclipse GT
I like the fact that this car looks like a freakish ugly monster. Thats what makes them attractive. Sleek design is also a plus. Engine could be better but still bangs.
I own a 3g 2004 rs as a “new car guy” I’m having some issues working in it but it’s a great way to start learning about cars in my option and over time I am planning on maybe doing a 2jz swap on it see how that goes
Might as well build the 4g64, you can either boost it as is or buy a 4g63 dohc cylinder head from a evo 8 + boost & you’ll get even more power reliably. If you can’t afford the evo cylinder head then just get a Kia or Hyundai g4js dohc cylinder head. It’s super identical to the 4g63.. the internals are just different. So definitely use evo 8 internals, they’re stronger.
I'm looking at a 2004 spyder w/ the V6 as a replacement for my 99 civic. i dont really care for the engine, but it ticks all of the boxes. I've wanted a manual convertible for the longest time. At its price point (1.8K) I'm hard pressed to find any decent hondas/toyotas. I like to knock on mitsubishi, but this is a very attractive car. The added comfort & size make it marginally better than a miata for my purposes as a daily driver.
@@markroden Ahh... Well I have an MX-3 and I'd love to have the MX-6 too, they're just very rare and expensive in comparison to mx-3 around here 😅 Even though, I still love my MX-3 very much 😌 They both need a bit more appreciation imo
The reason that car is so hated is because of what it replaced. The second gen DSM’s were amazing, not to mention they look so much better than the 3rd gen. No 4G63 and no all-wheel-drive = lame.
Good Bad and Ugly on Toyota Solara (2nd gen preferably)? Don't think you've talked about it yet, and its a great sporty Toyota if Celica's too small for you.
Hey Mark not sure if you read the comments or not but I found a 02 with 54k miles, would you say its worth the trade for a 91 SL that I cant for the love of god figure the issue out? I dont have a daily and id make this it
I have an respect for this car for the simple fact I tried to drive a spider with a 4 cylinder and I couldn't find neutral and was miss almost every gear I could it had a retardedly small throw
