this is the best video I have seen on a dual battery setup, thank you for actually showing everyone, every single part of the system. you've answered so many of the questions that I had.

Hey mate. Great video! I’ve just bought a 2015 MQ and just wondering if you know if they have a smart alternator in them? Did you have to run a wire from your ignition for the DCDC charger?

Hi mate. Sorry for the late reply nah the triton has a fixed voltage alternator. Happy travels!

Awesome video mate. Looking to do a similar setup, wondering if the back seats middle armrest is impacted at all?

Hi mate thanks heaps! You need to be super careful with the placement otherwise it will impact the middle seat but should be all good 👍 cheers shain

hey mate awesome video, I am wondering about how everything is earthed. Can I earth my redarc and second battery to the cab or do I need a wire to the starter battery? cheers
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview Год назад
Hi mate, i ran a twin red and black from the start battery but you can earth to the chassis no problem just make sure you have a good metal on metal connection. Cheers shaino

Awesome video mate. Got a question regarding terminal connection. If I want to use a vsr instead of a dc charger can I connect the input from starter battery and output to accessories on the same terminal like piggy backing? Will that cause any problems regarding charging or output. Cheers
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Thanks ryan! You definitely want your accessories to come from the positive on your second battery that way the connection from the isolator to the second battery will be fused and your 12v items will be protected. Depending on the vsr it will monitor the state of the second battery also.

Is there a need to run an ignition source wire from your charger to your fuse box? Obviously so that your charger isn't draining your Crank battery when vehicle is not running. As far as I understand MQ doesn't have a smart alternator and so is no need for this ignition wire? I'm not sure though lots of different info out there thought would ask if you knew, cheers!

Hi hayden! Thats right the Mq doesn’t have a smart alternator so no need for the extra wire. Cheers shaino

Hey mate, How did you get your wires through to the back tub of your car got he same vehicle as yourself as well :)
@southernstarreview

Hi mate i just used a stepping drill bit to come up into the tub where i wanted the cables to come through. Cheers shaino

the cig socket is that T into the Anderson line
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Gday mate. Yep thats the easiest way to do it as long as you run atleast 8b&s cable to the back to handle the load. Cheers shaino

@@southernstarreview righto. Im my vision is to have the second battery in the tub and dc-dc charger. Then want a fridge and charging dock sort of idea in the cab is that a possibility
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Yeah man thats the best thing about doing it yourself you can set it up the way you want! If you put the second battery in the tub i would run 6b&s cable to avoid voltage drop between start batt and charger.

Thanks for the video mate. Looking at doing the same in my triton. How did you run the cabling from inside the cab to the tray?
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Gday Anthony, on the right hand side behind the seat if you take the moulding out on the side, there is a factory grommet that you can run the cabling through. Then just go straight down to the chassis rail and along to the rear of the tray, easy as mate!

Thanks for this video. What glue did you use for the wood? Cheers.
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Thanks janine! I just used standard liquid nails you could also use sikaflex 118 construction adhesive. Just make sure your screws dont go all through the wood. Cheers shain

@southernstarreview

Gday erico! It all depends on where and when you buy it. I would say get connectors and cable online rather than an auto store they are a ripoff

Did you remove the top tether point? Does the battery rub on back of seat? I'm trying to fit same arrangement but battery appears to be in contact with the seat.

Hi Dean. Shain is driving back from out west. He will reply to you ASAP. But may not be until the morning. 👍👍 Steveo

Gday dean i didn’t remove the tether and the battery does contact the back of the seat but it still locks in. You could cut a hole out of the battery box to allow the tether a bit more clearance. Hope this helps cheers shain

Hey mate, quick question, do you know if there is another way into the rear tray to prevent drilling? Is there a factory hole/grommet that can be utilised? Thanks
@southernstarreview
@southernstarreview 2 года назад
Hi Matt, not that i am aware of. Its pretty easy to drill it out though just use a stepping drill bit and make sure you spray the bare metal with some zinc paint.

If you don’t want to drill into the tray there is space to run cable up behind the tail lights
