Definitely one of the most beautiful cars ever made (if not the most). The model in this video makes me wanna get one of these wonderful cars. Very nice :o)
ONE of the best 4 cylinders ever made. Mitsubishi used the block out of a forklift in this car , back in the 80's it was car to be dealt with , a 4 banger putting out 190 hp and the handling was awesome...
rob banks Ikr, I liked the JDM Cordia's with 150kw too. Easy 14.5sec 1/4 mile run for half the price, they were very effective cop pursuit car's back in the early 80s.
Yes, the American Starions/Conquests came out with 2.6 Astron motors. The Astron motor is very torquey, the 4G63 really needs a twin cam swap, which really brings them alive. The twin cam swap is not cheap, but the result is fantastic!!! Have a look at the 2.6 video of mine, you can certainly do great things with them. Your car sounds like a lot of fun, nice work!!! PS, i'm willing to talk about parting with the motor in the video, if you are interested, Cheers.
beautiful! keep up the good work, Starions have always been a favorite of mine since I was a small child.....unfortunately, in the past 5 years ive only seen 2, one was owned by a black guy who painted it neon green and put chrome rims on it, and the other was broken down, half gray primer and half matte banana yellow....this video is refreshing!
I have owned many sports cars including my current Corvette C6 which is awesome. I owned my Starion almost 15 years ago and if I could found a mint low mileage one now I'd buy it as a weekend cruiser. I loved the car and always believed it was way ahead of the times.
By god this is the best starion I have ever seen. The car should be remade in the image of this car. I would totally buy one with a modern interior, airbags, ABS and a new engine. Keep the rear wheel drive though. What a beautiful thought.
Man that car is gorgeous. He actually got the wheel offset right. Most people put wheels on these cars and screw up the offset and the arch hands over the wheel and looks ike shit. But this guy put the wheels and tires right on the edge like it's supposed to be. I test drove one of these cars about 16 yrs ago and fell in love. I think I'm finally gonna grab 1.
Great car. Back in the 80's before the Evo and WRX this was the car to own. Mitsubishi had a similar car called the Cordia. They even made a Cordia Turbo but the Starion was better.
...good job on the vid, bro. Only I had changed the steering wheel, the only thing that looks ugly in this car. I own one too, changed it into a black Momo racing wheel with the diamants logo on it...these cars are rockin', keep on rollin'...
Wow, this is one Beautiful Car, Back in the Day I wanted one, couldn't afford it because I was too young, Now I want one but there are so few of them, only lasted like 3 years then they Stopped production, That car is Strickingly Beautiful, Wonder if it could go against a Buick Grand National.
I have the same door chime in my 1980 Mitsubishi Eterna GSR (Jap import A164A model, predessor to the Starion). There's a switch on top of the ETACS box under the passenger seat which activates that chime tune noise (not the door open chime, the other one).
@manlavi90 I agree! I like the this, the first and second generation Eclipse, the Evo IV, and all the 3000GTs! If I were to be the designer of the next Evo, I would make it look a lot like the IV, like the designers did for the new Camaro, or Mustang. :)
First car I ever drove legally. My brother in law had one and we went and got my permit on my 16th b-day and then I learned to drive stick that afternoon.
not in stock form, but It was the racer Mitsubishi used before Vr-4 and EVO came on to market. It did well both on circuit and dirt, something you couldn't say for VR-4 and EVO which are rally based.
I miss my old Conquest TSI! I my traded flawless black cherry colored one to my buddy for his Toyota pre-runner truck. He drove it for a couple weeks and totalled it big time. Flew off a turn and spun it off a huge tree breaking out every single window and ripped the back axle out from the car completely! The rims broke off the hubs of the wheels and everything. :``( He crawled out one side while the car was on fire and just got a couple scratches so it's all good but so sad.
I dont really like many Japanese cars at all, but this one is certainly a good looking car, and any car that can sustain roll over damage in a 24 hour race and still win its class is a well built vehicle in my eyes.
Funny that this "Mitsubishi Starion 2600 GSR-VR" is actually a "Chrysler Conquest TSI". Granted made by Mitsubishi, but notice the Conquest TSI on the hatchback lid, and you can barely make it out on the stearing wheel. I had an 87 Conquest TSI that I loved , Black on Black. the only thing I didn't like about the car was the ride was super stiff, still it would fly.
In Australia ALL Starions were sold as 4G63T motors, which can be converted to twin cam, using a head off a VR4 or Lancer, then they rock!!!! The reason that the Starions were not sold with 4G63T motors in America, is that most Americans thought that the 2 lt was to small!!!! according to Mitsubishi customer research, even though it puts out more power and has heaps more potential, go figure?!
@manlavi90 I love the Firebird/Trans Am. I like it's design A LOT better than the Camaro's. Plus, it was a tad bit faster. Oh yeah, I wish they didn't kill Pontiac altogether, either!
@SuperMario811 Yeah, Mitsubishi really had it when they made this car, I don't see why they discontinued it! I like it more than any of the new Mitsus, including the evo. All the new mitsus are really tall, or weird shaped. This one is just sexy.
Mitsubishi was throwing alot of money at it & no doubt it handled & went impressively as a Group A car, but the problem with the Starion is when the new fuel law's arrived in the mid 80s - it's performance took a terrible blow. It was no longer fast. It still handled impressively but to make matter worse, Mitsubishi pushed the price for it up by roughly 10 grand despite the loss of performance. Alot of significantly faster car's arrived on the scene that were so much cheaper, including Mitsubishi's own Cordia. Mitsubishi should have adjusted the performance of the car at least with the price hike, but they didn't & it remained slow which killed it. I'm still hoping they revive it in the future, but it remains the car that set the pace for turbocharged technology with all the success it enjoyed on the Group A racing scene. I'm surprised Jeremy Clarkson would dub it as a communist car because you rarely see them & they were a Group A racer with a number of rather notable racing victories under it's belt.
i found mines about six months ago with 129k miles man its in tact excep the color straight body. Its red motor has no oil leaks its perfect when its finish geting painted i will show some pictures.Puting some 5 inch lip tires on the back shorted on the front man i looks sweat.
@jayjames5 no it defanitly isnt a conquest its right hand drive , the tsi is only made left hand drive he just put conquest on the back cu he thought it was cool lol it still is a really clean car
anyone have a approximate guess on what rim size he is using? LOL. This car is soo classic, and so well kept, everything is in perfect condition, truely amazing. I own a 88 supra mk3, also in perfect condition. And i would love to have a wheel set up like this Starion so clean, and classic.
I almost bought a Starion..the thing that put me off was it it was the No. 1 import car most stolen in the USA-this caused the insurance to be very costly.
Ad Mirer They are very expensive to maintain too. Parts are non existent, so you'll be paying huge money for it. They are a fast & incredibly good handling car for that era. They have huge potential if you modify them. The reason I preferred them over the Porsche was because of the way they looked. I wonder why Mitsubishi doesn't revive it, they put so much effort into making it back then. If they upgrade the 2.6L inline 4, I don't see why it couldn't make massive power to be a modern day weapon.
Mitsubishi doesnt have a reputation of destroying the original concept of thier cars, I wish they wouldve continued manufacturing this beut. We as consumers gotta do our part I guess...
I miss my car. she was bored to 2.8. Dynoed at 437 hp. Semi street legal. lol. I came outside one day and some moron plowed into it. When it was parked. Apparantly an accident happened near the intersection i was parked next to and the entire front end was wiped out. its an awesome car. Good for drifting, or in my day it was called powersliding, and any other form of fast driving. sob ...weep... sob
Well the two cars where both made in the same factory and except for the badges there are no differences so I don't see your point. It is like the D-50, and the Dodge Stealth. All Made and designed by Mitsubishi.
Actully its not a Conquest, if you look close you can see the non painted black grill on the front the starions are all un painted black grills but the Conquest had painted grills to match the exterior paint. watch it again and look close that the grill and then at the manuels grill of the silver Starion.
ik used to have 2 conquests, both red. one was auto the other was stick. i miss these cars, and the look of them. but now i own a 89 porsche 944, and i have to say the 944 is a much better car, turbo or not. it isn't as fast, but ill trade in a loss of speed for a more reliable, better driving car. but i will admit the starions were cool ass cars.
