Great video. Here’s a time saver. After knitting waste yarn and before starting project yarn, knit 1 row of contrast yarn using a length about 6 inches longer than required for row, so you have about 3 inch tails at both ends. When you take project off machine and have picked up the project yarn stitches, you can just pull one end of this 1 row yarn until it comes out completely in about 15 seconds, to separate waste from project. Then you can unravel (UK term) waste yarn easily by pulling on tail that was next to the one row yarn, rather than struggling with first row of waste yarn. Loved the mittens and will be making these to go with beanies. Thanks for showing how to make mittens so beautifully.

how many rows is it on the glove and thumb for the medium/large pattern before you fold/double it? how many rows for the thumb? i watched it twice but i couldnt find exactly where you gave away the information and i didnt pick it up when i watched the entire video, I was to facinated by the machine. Also, what is the thickness of the yarn you use and how much meters of yarn do you need for both gloves both yellow, grey and black yarn? What do you think would be the appropriate size of knitting sticks to use to achieve same result as the machine with the same yarn that you use?@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet

I do not post row counts but it is all in the video as I teach it. I do not use straight needles so I am sorry, I can’t answer that. Wish I could knit better with regular knitting needles. I am slowly getting better. Haha! I am using a 4 weight, worsted weight yarn. It doesn’t take much yarn at all.

Just a tip. I use the grafting method to close the end of the glove and I use it to close the end of the thumb. It gives you stretch instead of the solid seam that doesn’t give. I also did 70 rows and did a folded cuff which looks great. One more thing if you do the different color cuff I counted up 5-6 more stitches up from the cuff and started my thumb hole there. It didn’t pull on the cuff color when you put it on. I hope you enjoy these tips. Happy knitting!!!

I bought myself a sentro 48 pin knitting machine for christmas and have loved using it. I also drive school bus and my fingers have froze this year wearing gloves and i told my husband i needed to hand crochet myself a thick pair of mittens. Not anymore...I just need to buy a 22 pin knitting machine and i can make mittens for myself and more to give away and sell plus i can make other things. Thank you for such a detailed video here a d your other ones. You have a follower here.

I am brand new to circular knitting as of one month ago. I've made tons of hats, and I'm looking forward to making scarves and blankets - but never could imagine that one could actually make nice looking MITTENS with these machines! But now I see how it's done. Ingenious! My own Grandmother hand-knitted us slippers and mittens and hats when we were children. We looked forward to them every Christmas! Now I, as a grandma, can do the same for MY grandkids! Thanks so much for this detailed tutorial. I'm going to stick to hats for this Christmas, but once the new year hits, I'm going to expand my repertoire and start on next years' gifts! :D

A way to make it even easier. Don't start with waste yarn, end with it, then the cast on becomes a drawstring and you don't have to pick the stitches off the machine just put on like 8 rows of waste yarn and then keep cranking til it falls off the machine.
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
Yes, that’s great advice 😊

@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
Thank you very much! And….thanks for watching! You would have to experiment with your Addi King and be creative. But I would suggest maybe a crochet thumb. Single crochet around the base where you want your thumb and single crochet to the length you need and cinch the end closed.

I have the Sntro 48 needle machine and I hate it I end up with 2 stitches on 1 hook then I gotta start over I just bought it 3 weeks ago and the counter is broke already saving up for the Addi machine
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet 8 месяцев назад
The counters are terrible on the sentro’s. You can’t trust them even when they do work. Seriously try different yarn. The Addi does the same thing with yarn it doesn’t like.

at first I was thinking 'wouldn't 46 stitches make it the size of a hat?' and then I saw you make it double thickness and THEN it all made sense...here in Australia our winters don't get quite cold enough for double thickness but as I also have the smaller (22) one I could make single thickness for mitts/gloves...thanks...
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
You could also make a single thickness hat with a brim on your 46 needle. Maybe I should do a video on that as well. I would like to invite you to join my newly formed FB Group. Koala Knits And Knacks Here is the link 🥰 facebook.com/groups/899664008062522/?ref=share_group_link&exp=9594

@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet Unfortunately the circular knitting machine I purchased recently from Lincraft Australia is only a 40 hook machine..the first hat I try will be a test to see if it'll be big enough for adult hats..and thanks for the link.. I went to the link, clicked join, opened up the box to answer the questions but there were no questions to answer, just a box to click about the accepting the rules, which I clicked...when I closed the box there was another box asking me to answer the questions or exit..clicked answer questions but it took me back to the same thing...is it not currently working..??
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
I just noticed you joined! Welcome! A 40 needle machine is the perfect size for head bands and kids beanies and great for many other things as well but not wide enough for adult beanies.

I recently saw a video where they used an extension to make their knitting panels wider. I'm not sure if you could do something like that in the round? Especially if it's only making it 6-8 stitches larger. You can search extension for addi/sentro and ask her if she's tried it in the round. Just a thought :)

Hi! I’m new to knitting on a machine and I’m a little lost on what “double thickness” means and how to not accidentally make a mitt the size of a hat 🥴 I also don’t have the smaller machine that you used to make the thumb, do you think I could make a panel and sew it closed? Thank you!

You have to go slowly and watch as every needle passes by the yard feeder to be sure it knits properly. Make sure you are using yarn the machine likes.

Hello I love the idea to mark space by the first needle with black marker. Only issue is I cannot figure out where to put it on my Sentro machines. For example on the Sentro 40, all the needles are white except one which is black. The black needle is marked 1. The needle to the left is marked 40, and to the right it’s marked 2. For the pen mark you made on your machine, what needle numbers does it sit between?
@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
On my Sentro I mark the divider that’s between peg 47 and 48 because I like the white peg to be my number 1. You can’t see the numbers anyways so I did what I visually like. Lol If you prefer the white to be the last instead then by all means mark the divider one over. Sorry for the confusion. 🥰 If you haven’t already done so, I’d like to invite you to join my FB group. 🙂 facebook.com/groups/899664008062522/?ref=share_group_link&exp=9594
