Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life You were only waiting for this moment to arise Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these sunken eyes and learn to see All your life You were only waiting for this moment to be free Blackbird fly, blackbird fly Into the light of a dark black night Blackbird fly, blackbird fly Into the light of a dark black night Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life You were only waiting for this moment to arise You were only waiting for this moment to arise You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Oh Barbara!! Amazing as always... Here's the lyrics to Paul's (one of the most) beautiful song "Blackbird"... Love from Germany - Tonia P.S. wenn ich mal wieder in Wien sein sollte, melde ich mich!!
Your comments make so much sense to me now that I have made some journals, done some collages. Yes! Oh, and the quote--- every night after dinner when I was in college, I would put on the Beatles' White Album and listen.... great times too! 50+ years ago--- wow
Wow! What a great find that bottle of sand was!! It looks very silky. You are a collage Queen. Every time you post a collage, I get so excited. They always look different but equally beautiful! And I loved the stencil with the texture paste. ♥️♥️♥️
Hi Barbara, I too read the reviews and was feeling like maybe that typewriter would be a terrible investment. Then I happened on a tutorial where the You Tuber did a review that shed a different light on it. She said it was modeled after a vintage typewriter and those old typewriters had sticky type bars and, that the keys were hard to push down. Also, that we are used to easy keyboards now so it's easy to make comparisons from how it is today but that's not how it was yesteryear. If I'm correct I think she also mentioned that they held their hands differently to type as well. She finished by saying it indeed was a good replica. I decided to go for it. It's due to arrive next week.
And now I have the song in my head by Mr. Mister 😉😄 don't know if you were referring to that one too. Love the page sweetie, your collage is so gorgeous. 👌 the neutrals are perfect. Hugs 😘🤗
I love this piece, Barbara. That song has always spoken to me. I’m going to try making a collage from the outside in and letting it tell me what it needs. You’ve mastered the art of collage.
Lovely Barbara!I love how you keep working it, until it makes you happy! Thank you so much for all your hard work that you so sweetly share with us! Stay safe and well, ❤️😘🤗🥰
Hi, Barbara: I have a We R Memory Keepers typewriters, and I have to say that the keys are VERY hard to push, so you can't actually position your hands and type in the way you would on any other keyboard. You basically have to just hit the keys the way you do when texting. Then, if you don't hit the key hard enough to depress the key all the way, the carriage moves over a space so you have to backspace and try again. It's VERY pretty to look at (the one I have is the color of your favorite paint!), and it is FINE for typing a couple of words or sentences, which I guess is why most of us want a typewriter in the first place. Love your pages today, by the way. (Then again, there has never been one I DIDN'T like!) :)
I love how your pages turned out! Thank you for explaining about your collaging process. I struggle with the process ...I need to take your advice and practice!! Hugs
Barbara, I truely love to watch you create. Your explanation of why you place this here or that there helps so much. I love to collage and this helps in my placement of pieces. Thank you
Another lovely work of art! It’s fun to watch what you’re doing and listen to your thought process as you create. As far as the quote, I guess it depends on your generation. Paul McCartney wrote Blackbird in 1968. “Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these broken wings and learn to fly.” Mister Mister’s song, Broken Wings, was released in 1985. “Take these broken wings and learn to fly again, learn to live so free.”
Hi Barbara, it makes so much sense to put element upside down to focus on shape vs text. I never thought of this before. Our brain automatically wants to place with text readable. Great tip!!!! Thank you 💜
I like how you made the runny gesso work. In fact, the multiple layers of gesso add texture and the watery spreading looks intentional. I have had that problem and now I have a solution!
Sehr schöne Collage liebe Barbara. Ich musste direkt zu Beginn schon an einem Song aus den 80er Jahren denken ( ein Lieblingssong von mir 😊) nämlich an Mr. Mister : "Take these broken wings..." . Hab ihn direkt die ganze Zeit im Ohr gehabt beim Schauen Deines Videos, hat super gepasst. Liebe Grüße, Doreen
I love your process on this page...another great video. I have the mint We are Memory Keepers typewriter...I have had it for 2 years now and I love it. I have had no problems with it and have different coloured ribbons as well...I thought it was a good investment and it looks pretty in my craft room!
I have the We rMemory Keepers typewriter and it is cute and decorative, but as a professional typist, I cannot use it for it’s intended purpose because the action is horrible. You are very lucky to have your beautiful vintage machine. 😊
Lol I'm not sure how RU-vid allocates adverts but they've given you football and Disneyworld🙊. Those invoices work brilliantly! I admit I do over plan and over think and end up stressing 🙈. You're right, just do it! I'm better with collage though thanks to master boards. Oh I bought 'white' aquarium sand and it's definitely sand coloured 🙈 yours is perfect! Those words are in a good song from the '80's. Lol no hashtags back then! I have painful memories of typing class at school, the teacher often had to help get my fingers out from between the keys 😄. I love the results though so compromise with a font. Your composition is always spot on for pleasing the eye. Lovely art journaling😍😍😍. Tfs and have a great week 💖💖💖
Morning Barbara, your new monthly journal is beautiful. I love the digitals, they are so pretty and imaginative. Love the page you did, the coffee dyed paper was awesome and, as usual, you made a fabulous collage and the butterfly is gorgesso. I have never thought of using my "gel" to seal the butterfly and to add the wonderful irridescent colours make the butterfly pop. Love the quote, we should all try out our wings and fly. blessings as always from Cape Town. Diana
Beautiful collage, thank-you for leading us through your thoughts. I am not a big splatter fan or at best, small and few. The black certainly woke up your pages, for sure! I found this video very inspiring... it's simple, we all can follow a few steps and let our pages speak to us. thanks Barbara!❣Jeannie in 🇨🇦.
Barbara, adding the sand to the gesso really made a difference. Love both the pages. I still have my electric typewriter but it’s in the attic somewhere. One of these days I will have to dig it out. TFS! ❤️
Thank you Barbara! Really enjoyed this! Beautiful collage! Take these broken wings and fly is a lyric from a very famous song...Broken Wings by Mr. Mister, 1985. I heard it in my mind immediately when you laid down your quote. Cheers to you lovely lady!💫💖
Hey Barbara, you make it look so easy!! I love the neutrals with the pop of black in you inked words and numbers. Collage can be tricky I know, but that's one thing I'm continually playing with hoping to get new ideas and concepts on how to use it in my journals. I will use your idea to split the butterfly wings and stamp on them and I still want to try splattering some. Huge hugs, Carol Schneider
Hi Barbara, gorgeous how you made this page. You used the same typewriter we had at home when I was a kid. I used to play with it, even have an old photo with it🥰 I have an older one here at home now but must buy me a typewriter band for it. I learned to type on such an oldie, we used type ex papers to erase our failures 🤣 nice memories. Greetings Maia
Love this! I've finally decided to break down and get those Tim Holtz stamps because they add so much. You can never go wrong with a quote from Lennon & McCartney. Most of their lyrics are poetry. Do you store all of your liquid mixtures in the refrigerator or just the coffee? I'm used to the climate in Northern CA and in this Texas heat I'm afraid everything will go moldy.
You explain collaging so it make sense with placements and colours and so on. I get it better now. Thanks! Beautiful page spread too! I thought you'd say gold splatter, but you went for black... Do you choose on a sense for the page, or is black somehow a better colour for making the collage come to life?
I have had trouble collage collage but I'm getting better. It does help me to watch other people collaged that I like what they produce but until I do it myself I will never learn what is right for me and that's where collage book comes in at you can just practice practice there if you don't like it just tear it out and throw it away. But if you do like something you can also tear it out and copy it and you have your own digital I did that with my last collage that I made and I just loved it. For me it's one of the harder techniques of junk journaling
Beautiful collage pages, I thought about purchasing WRMK Typewriter. However after reading all the reviews, I decided against it real fast. Idk why they're so expensive, yet have so many bad reviews. Maybe if they lowered the price significantly, I would think about it. But I cannot justify paying that much for it knowing about all the negative reviews. I've noticed at my thrift stores here in Las Vegas, they're charging an arm and leg for vintage Typewriter's as well.
Barbara: a great collage,- as usual. While watching you create, a question occurred to be. Do you feel that you collage differently when you are alone versus when you are videoing? Carol from California
