ABOUT MICAH BUZAN:
I'm a self-taught animator and musician. I learned animation by making music videos for my songs in 2009.
In 2013, I animated a music video for The Flaming Lips and have worked on other band’s videos since then. My animation for Moon Duo has been featured on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
Experimentation plays a big role in my animation. I’m influenced by a wide range of animation styles - from anime films like Spirited Way and Akira, to Walt Disney’s Steamboat Willie and Fantasia.
My music is inspired by experimental rock bands, electronic, psychedelic, and retro video game soundtracks. I play all the instruments in my songs. I also record and mix the tracks. I like to have as much creative control as possible over what I produce.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.... If Thom Yorke's spirit was reincarnated into a fresh body in today's "era"... I expect he'd be making music alot like this. I look forward to seeing if your music evolves in the same scope as Thom's did as a songwriter. Kind of reassuring, knowing that when Thom is gone, that there's already someone who could likely take up the baton and continue on. Obviously not The First of The Children... But surely possibly The Furthest of The Children (one day)?

Hey there Micah. I really like the animation in this video. I stumbled upon this video accidentally, well as you know there really are no accidents just coincidences, where one thing coincides with another, any way I digressed. I got here because my friende Byrdy Daguman has put together a band of old friends from over 48 years ago called Unbalanced Signal. When we met recently after not having contact for over 30 years he showed me a list of rock and blues cover songs that he wants to do. One of them was a song called "Peoples, Peoples" which i had never heard of. When I was making a spreadsheet of these 58 songs I still didn't know who the artist was, even after Googling it. So while we were talking this afternoon I asked him about it and he said it was an obscure old blues song that Hendrix did. And I asked him what album is it on? And he didn't know the album title, just that it was probably some old obscure bootleg. Well this time I searched on RU-vid and found it, and that's how I found you, in the comments section. So I clicked on your link and it led me to this video of yours. Now here's the real kicker, earlier today I was wondering how I could animate a string of numbers that I had made into an Ouroboros, where after the end of the string of 48 numbers it returns back to # 1, like a snake eating it's tail, which is what an Ouroboros is. Seeing your video I believe you can show or tell me how to animate this sequence of numbers. Does this all make any sense to you? I think it does. I can't wait to hear your reply, Micah. Really good video and cool song. Awesome lyrics too. I didn't mind your random message because you admitted it was random so thanks for your honesty and I hope your work gets promoted. You should try to find another voice to this song (sorry for my sincerity) it's not that you sing badly I just see the potential for a more polished mix (I dabbled a bit in music production some years ago) with a "better" voice. I loved it and wish you the best. If you work hard enough your art will break through, believe it.

This is by far your magnum opus! The animation is great and is really well sync'd with the music. And I see the chinese sage and butterfly motifs there, wich more than justifies this time the use of dreamy and hallucinogenic imagery. Great.

Glad you could connect to it :) I'm inspired by so many different things. As far as visual artists are concerned, to name a few off the top of my head I'd list: Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo, Satoshi Kon, Vincent Van Gogh, Ub Iwerks, Pendleton Ward, Bruce Bickford, Chad Vangaalen and many others have had a big impact on how I make animation. What kind of art do you make? Oh, and there's no need to wish you had my mind. Each mind is a unique gift. Your mind is capable coming up with things only it could imagine. Just make art as much as you can and enjoy the process :)

That bit is 100% hand drawn. I incorporate both traditional and digital techniques in my animation. Some parts are of this are colored digitally. Thanks for the comment!

I got this as a message also, and I usually dont click on messages, but as an artist myself, when you said you spent months making it I felt like I had to click on your video. it was really nicely done! the song and the art together was very trippy, and I liked how you mixed different mediums together, for example somethings looked like colored pencil, and others watercolor and digital :) nicely done

Well, strange, but it's good. So . . . why, of all the options of places to comment (directly on my channel, on one of my songs, or even just a PM) you decided to post the link to this on the one video I made over a year ago that is NOT a song? Not bitching about it, just curious. It was a 17 second video of my cat chasing the mop. You could've commented on any of them, I just wonder what made you choose that one, or for that matter, how do you go about picking who you're going to send these disappearing comments to???

Why does this song remind me of the White Stripes AND Cake at the same time???????? The art has is crazy. It's like exactly what I picture when I listen to Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass. But it's way more than that.... I LOVE THE LUCKY CAT! What the fuck!!! I love it. Micah, you did this by hand? Fucking show off! lolololol But I really like the song and the art. Seriously, I think you should watch this japanese animation called Neko-jirou (Cat Soup). It's like 40mins long, but surreal and epic in it's own right. It's something I think you would appreciate. There are like maybe....3 people in the world who can watch the whole thing and not put it down immediately after (because they didn't get it or couldn't get over the surreal quality). You should for real watch that. And I'm curious to know what exactly your role is. Is this your music/voice/art? And how did you put the art together? Did you use a program? There's gotta be an easier way than to do it all by hand. You can't scan some drawings into photoshop and export to an animation software or something? God, no wonder it took you months.

Hi Micah, thanks for sharing this with me. I love discovering new work. I work in film and photography myself. Primarily in arts ed as the 'day job' But i work with a lot of visual artists and musicians too, on projects. I'll be sharing this on facebook with those guys :) Roger Peartree (below) mentions voice and production, I disagree. We always have the option to reproduce but, the vocals/vocal mix are fine.
