Whoever played acoustic guitar on that was horrified to know that all of the artifacts of his beat detected rhythm issues are now soloed on the internet.
Can you do a video on the cowbell? I'm a professional cowbeller but I can't get them to sit in the mix right. The brightness of my cowbells clashes with my accordion.
If you mic up the acoustic with two mics, one near the sound hole and one sorta behind the strumming arm near the strap peg a little above the sound board it give a really chunky sound you can mix as desired or put the second mic near the head for the finger sounds depend if you want the fingering noises in there or not
Great video Dave, eq on acoustic was perfect. I felt there was maybe a touch too much compression on it though. It did seem, from the look of the waveform, that that may have happened on the way in. Great stuff as always
Suyen Bass That's the thing though, I am pretty open minded, I just don't like the way that song sounded so for me that would be a painful job. I can tell that the song itself is put together and performed well it's just not a genre that I can listen to is all.
Zenon Castro I'd love to do this kind of thing for a job. I've done some mixes for a few friends just for fun. But I don't have a clue where to get started making a living of it. I'm also kinda bothered that long listening/mixing sessions give me ringing in my ears even at very moderate levels. If not for that I would have long taken some pro classes on it.
Dave doesn't have the brass to actually name the $30 Klanghelm compresser plugin set. God knows Herbie would kick his butt if something wasn't an approved sponsor.
Dave, I'm a musician in a first place and then I've start to produce my music. I love your authenticity! When you find, check or just focus on some details and then you are excited like a kid - this is PRICELESS. You are a masterpiece and just please continue what you are doing. I know that you are not answer or like this comments, but I don't care. Please continue your work. :)
Love it when you do guitars, thank you. Is there any possibility that you can do an Into the Lair focused on making choices on how to differentiate Intros from the body of the song to the Outro? I've noticed that you have melodic or harmonic stuff a little more "up front" in the intro and maybe the Drums with kick in and Certain elements with fade into the background. Do you make this decision based on the vocal? Genre? Maybe too simple a question, but thanks.
I think what most are sayin is beat detective is the klanghelm smearing the tone? I don't know what beat detective sounds like because I play in time...(wink)
Just today I was posting on the PLAP forum how it seems like the majority of mixing and recording "How To" videos are about drums. Then, the very same day you post one on guitars. Although, dang it was so short. But thanks.
