Hello Sharon, It's been a while since I've popped back onto your channel hut I hope you're doing well ❤ Your sweet version Laura came along so beautifully - believe it or not, I'm here as an ex reborn doll artist wanting to know how to mix up air dry paints to paint a porcelain baby doll 🤣 It's a long story but I started reborning vinyl dolls with GHSP and never moved onto air dry in my time as a reborn artist. I am wanting to get into making porcelain baby dolls, mainly sculpts by Dianna Effner if you've heard of her as I got quite unwell when I was reborning but I don't want to completely abandon painting babies. I prefer painting babies tenfold to painting BJDs or any other doll, babies are too sweet and there are so many possibilities with babies too colour wise haha I got two porcelain baby dolls and their paint was really quite messy, it was partially fired onto the porcelain and so I managed to remove the bulk of the paint from one doll but I need to basically hide the remaining red paint as one doll's lips were red like lipstick had been applied and that was really quite unnatural haha I need to apply a base wash layer and I have tried that tonight using distilled water that I boiled (I got about a 10ml of water from trying to distill it for myself but not bad for a first effort lol, it did run out very quickly because of the lack of water) and I put too much premixed Valejo acrylic model paint into the mix which dried onto the doll in a chalky manner. So, I am here wanting to see how to get a realistic base wash layer and I will follow along when I try again with this doll soon as I want to try and salvage it with a new paint job. Whilst porcelain does better with paint that is fired in a kiln, Dianna Effner proved herself that you can paint them with acrylic paints or any paints that don't need to go in a kiln, maybe even Genesis paints. I sold all of mine when I loosely retired from reborning but I do have a stash of acrylic paints that I'll mess around with and see what happens haha Hugs and blessings too you, I've missed your channel, I took a break from reborns specifically and it's almost nostalgic to look through all of the videos I used to teach me in the early days, some of which are yours so thank you and thank you again for the advice with painting Laura ❤
Good to hear from you. I think the 'magic' ingredient to get acrylics to stick to a surface is using a product like Folk Art Outdoor Sealer. I don't think you can make your own distilled water by boiling it. You should pick it up from the store - it's very inexpensive. Let me know how it goes!

No, I'm sorry, silicone uses different paints altogether. If it is a replica reborn doll from Amazon, Temu, AliExpress, etc., they sometimes describe the material of their dolls as silicone/vinyl, when in fact it is vinyl. So if it is one of those dolls, and you think it is vinyl, yes, you can use the same formula.
Yes I bought it from Amazon last year it’s STELLARS Reborn Baby Dolls - 22 inches Silicon Lifelike Realistic Newborn Baby Dolls, Vinyl Weighted Doll for Kids, Collect Toys & Christmas Gift for Ages 3+ ( MAX ).i went to Michaels Calgary yesterday to find out paints,but I wasn’t sure what to buy.the sales person guided me to use varnish and transparent spray paint at the end so that the paint never breaks. Is it correct way to do that?
No. I have never used spray paint. I can't recommend it. I can only recommend what I'm familiar with. Folk Art or Americana acrylics (matte), Folk Art Outdoor Matte Sealer, and distilled water. If you are going the air dry route, that is.
