This seams to be the wave of the future, rent for ever and never own! It gives the companies a constant $$ stream, instead of the one time purchase. I'm old fashion and want to own my plugins and have them when I need them. I do love and use Plugin Alliance. Just my 2 cents worth!

Correct. The software-subbing idea is mostly absurd for a user, but sensible for a vendor if enough buyers are captured, forget the alternatives, think it's the only normal and fall in line. As always, the only problem is strangling competition. Where nothing is being necessarily streamed and utility privileges are hard to avoid (water, electricity, gas, baseline connectivity), it is never a good idea for buyers to be permanently beholden to a provider unless, of course, one is the provider or some associated party that harvests data. This concern will be addressed in two ways: Either renewable licenses get so relatively cheap that they make some ownership pointless, or ownership becomes more prevalently offered again. There is a widening gap and, if allowed to be truly entrepreneurial, new business will make simple adjustments to fill it. Hundreds of dollars per year is nowhere near cheap or even affordable for most independents, and they will begin to seek and create other options. If regulation and monopolisation are sold as advantageous to the small producer, the health of the free market will be replaced by the weighing of supply and demand away from the consumer and towards the corporate combine that controls legislation and the modes of sale.

I agree but with the $250 price tag it actually makes sense. A lot of the other brands can eat one as far as im concerned but with the mega bundle, melodyne, and slate trigger you should be able to mix literally anything ever.

Capitalism and its greedy arms are happily waving to us! Naah, just kidding, not arms. I meant debts. But on the other hand... guys, heads up! It's almost like nothing has changed at all. That's but a single letter swapped... 'own' to 'owe'

plugin alliance is different at least by offering free vouchers for subscribers. I do own most of the things I most commonly use after subscribing for awhile, and for no extra cost

I REFUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to even use a free version of ProFools! WHY? Because NO MATTER WHAT YOU any of YOU do you can NOT get ProFools full blown deal unless YOU rent and ALSO BUY their hardware! Even your data ends up not really yours. I use CAKE. I have since Pro Audio 9...If you get the free version of Bandlab it is not the greatest. Add it to the years of purchased updates of Cake and you have a KICK ASS situation that you can do anything. I learned back in my DAY gig years of selling high end protection to banks, military DOD 3 step rule requirements and bla bla...the owner of the security Co brought me aside and said here...I'm going to tell you a truth...I had just sold a $20K system DOD signed sealed and delivered in 3 visits. He said don't do it again...I was WHAT?? He made it clear to me that it was all about the monthly!!!!!!!! 20K one sale....Get a $500 down payment and charge a monthly rental for every sensor and redundant phone lines hidden in the ceiling and add an AUTOMATIC RENEW contract, give killer service and they NEVER LEAVE YOU!! They trust you over the years and auto renew! That $500 over 20 years completely buries the $20K you brought in. That's why for me NO PROFOOLS, NO ADT, NO CABLE (Roku and the like no prob) just pay the monthly for Internet. Kind of hard to avoid that. It's pretty much a utility! You get the idea. And CLOUD....bite me...go buy triple redundant security Hard Drives and stick them in you bomb shelter....Delven Hamric that is the WAVE THEY want of the future. God bless and pass the amunition. AND DON'T ever lease a car and quit tracking mud across my rented apartment floor...A little added Monty Python and Fireside Theatre comic relief.

Justine I know this is a couple of years old but you dont have to rush (unless you have little time ovbiously) but we are all here to learn and the deeper you get into what you're doing the greater it would be for all of us. Thank you anyways for taking the time to do this and for showing some fun ideas.. cheers and thanks once again!

Agreed! I kind of almost feel a little guilty with how cheap it is for the whole bundle. I’m loving their compressors and saturators for master bus. Kind of feels like secret weapon level stuff.

its absolutely nuts to me putting this processing on and then a/b'ing it. I can't believe that I had been listening to the mix and liking it up until that point before I put the next plug in on. It's like turning the lights on and off. Great video and flippin love plugin alliance.

All three are SUPER sweet. All some of my top picks for use in mastering too. I wish I could have made the video twice as long showed off twice as much stuff, but I worry about losing people. Even then it would really just be scratching the surface!

How did you feel about the idea that lots of people supported this company, giving them thousands of dollars and they gave half off a one year subscription in return? It was inspirational to me to see how easy it is to charge premium, make stacks, then offer your product at an insanely low price now that you have reach. It definitely changed how i think about my business

Doesn't bother me, they're a business. Having said that, almost all third-party plugin distributors are exclusive, i.e. they sell on behalf of developers who don't have an online store. They set a high retail price on plugin that no one except a clueless person would pay, then offer large discount sales multiple times a year, often at 90% off. I own most of Plugin Alliance's highest retail priced plugins and did not pay more than $69.99 for any, most were between $20-$50. Good for you if you are serious about following their example. There's nothing unethical about it, all of this information is easily found online.

The Black Box is a great plugin and pretty much my go to plugin. Also SPL De-Esser is a great tool, I use it lately on reverbs and vocals. Also the Noveltech Vocal enhancer is a great plugin, not only on vocals, but last we had strings who had poor definition, the noveltech made it sound like it should. Also on podcasts or radio programs, I use the free bx_subfilter to add a bit of bottom end, not too much though. Plugin Alliance has great stuff. And great free plugins.

As a live sound engineer I would only buy waves in the past since it’s the only brand that people are (safely) using live (redundant servers and shit...) but now that covid is here I’m doing more at home mixing and I can’t believe I’ve never used plugin alliance!!!!!’

I just can't bring myself to pay for a subscription service, even Pro Tools. I'm still using PT 11. Whilst I can't argue that it's a good deal, I just prefer to own my plugins, so I don't have to worry about opening older sessions in the future. Maybe one day I'll bite?
@snapascrew
@snapascrew 4 года назад
Unfortunately even with a company that doesn’t do the subscription thing (ie: waves) they usually will find a way to get money out of you yearly (ie: waves update plan bullshit)
@davejohnsonmusic

@@snapascrew Once I get a plugin version that works and is stable, I really don't have a need to upgrade anyways, with the exception of samplers maybe. I try to leave my OS alone. Only until recently I was forced to upgrade to a version higher because I wanted to update my drum sampler. If my system and DAW is working I leave it alone. If that means I miss out on some newer plugs that require a more modern setup, then it will have to be a really good plugin to get me to jump through hoops. There's only a few companies out there with shady business models, Waves, IK Multimedia and Avid. I would leave Avid if I could, but I have no intention of learning a DAW in and out again. At least with Plugin Alliance, they've got some pretty awesome sounding plugs.
@toribarron5700
@toribarron5700 3 года назад
I feel much the same way. But I make an exception for this bundle. Why? Because they make quality emulations. Like, really. UAD ports PA plugins over to THEIR hardware. If PA is good enough for UAD, then it is premium software. Up there with a select few companies that make a lot of emulations. And to have so many options to choose from! Really a ridiculous tool set, and a lot of this gear solves very specific problems, so I don’t reach for those plugins often and likely would never buy them because I wouldn’t use them often. So, if I stuck to my guns and only owned the plugins I used, I wouldn’t have a ton of these tools, and they are always coming in handy. Sure, there are only four or five of these plugins that I reach for all the time, but it is the thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of tools that I only need in a pinch that really up my game. In any case, you can trial any of their bundles for two weeks, unlimited. So, you know? Try it. They have plans as low as $10 per month. I really bet you will subscribe by the time your demo ends.

PLEASE EXPLAIN the "Key In" function on the Townhouse Compressor...
@sammyloehnis3373

It allows you to choose an external sidechain for the compressor. If you don't know what that means, it basically means you can make a compressor act on one source, but respond to another.

It is a piece of content where we partnered together so I can show off the tools I really love most from their bundle. There’s nothing sad about sponsored content in my opinion! It would only be sad if I didn’t really like the tools :) There are some channels that try to hide when they are partnering with a brand on some sponsored content, but I try to be pretty transparent about it whenever we do. I also try to share sone techniques, approaches and philosophies that can be adapted to whatever tools you prefer to use. If you got through the whole video and didn’t get anything out of it aside from the fact that the plugins sound great, I’d be amazed! There’s a lot in there.

Your micro-expressions and body language within the first 20 seconds reveal that you're not 100% congruent with what you're saying here. If you deep down don't feel authentic doing a (sponsored?) video like this: just don't do it.
@SonicScoop
@SonicScoop 4 года назад
If you think I’m being at all inauthentic here, you just haven’t watched many of our videos! This is who I am and how I am. Watch more and you’ll just see more of the same mannerisms. :-) And yes, Plugin Alliance makes some of my favorite tools, period. I use at least one of their plugins pretty much every day. It is a sponsored video, which is mentioned at least 3 times in 3 different places. Unlike so many other channels, we are VERY transparent about that. But no company can buy our opinions. Period. That’s silly. We only allow sponsorship when we actually like their stuff, and we never say things about products that we don’t actually believe. I don’t know how anybody would be able to do anything BUT that. But I guess some do? Hope that helps! -Justin -Justin
