After paying THOUSANDS of dollars to Mixing and Mastering engineers in Canada & USA I still wasn't 100% happy with the sound quality. So I invested in some home music studio gear and went DIY! Now I'm VERY happy with this PRO sound 😊. You can do this too!

ABOUT PAUL TOBEY
================
Jazz pianist Paul Tobey makes a comeback after a 20-year hiatus from performing. Severe tendonitis injuries to his forearms put an end to Paul’s touring career. These injuries forced Tobey to table an 8-record deal with the New York label Arkadia Jazz just after his first release on the label garnered “Street Culture,” earning a Juno nomination (Canadian Grammy) for Best Contemporary Album.
Esteemed in the jazz community, prior to 2004, Tobey made his mark internationally, appearing on stages like the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, Yokohama Jazz Festival, and Carnegie Hall, to name but a few. The “who’s who” of great Canadian jazz players like drummer Terry Clark, bassist Neil Swainson, and tenor player Mike Murley, all appear on one of Paul’s seven previous albums as a leader.
It’s been a two-decade road to recovery! And Paul chose to return with a solo album titled “It’s Time.” This album was recorded on his beloved 7-foot grand piano, a German Ibach, in a recording studio he designed in his home in Niagara-on-the-Lake. It is from this studio that Paul ‘Live Streams’ to 13,000 + subscribers on his RU-vid channel “JazzMentl,” delivering masterclasses and performances every Saturday to jazz fans and musicians around the globe.
Paul has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Jazz Album of the Year, Pianist of the Year, and the IAJE Award for Service to Jazz Education. He has also been awarded several cash awards for touring, composition, recording, etc., from Canadian government organizations such as Canada Council for the Arts, The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Record, Ontario Arts Council, and Canadian Heritage.

Hi JazzMentlists! This video is produced for professional musicians who are about to record a demo or an album. Especiallly pianists - who have a beautifully tuned piano at home and prefer to capture that gorgeous piano sound they enjoy in their home or home studio. If you're like me, you much prefer to record on your own instrument then use a generic piano at a studio. Not all pianos are created the same. And maybe you don't have a big budget to go into a studio. The good news is, with today's technology, you can produce a quality product from home - which includes mixing and mastering! Here is the intro to that - if you have good ears, you'll hear the difference....

I appreciate this intel! There is some valuable information here that is very useful. I’ve always wondered how to filter out unwanted effects in the recording and clean it up. And I will getting Reaper and some more VSTs!

Glad you found it helpful. I knew this one wasn't for everyone but would be helpful to some.

Hi Paul, your DIY recording sounds much clearer across the frequency range (I realise this can be subjective) but there is greater presence of the piano notes, less of the key-action bumps (100 - 350Hz) which can be distracting and detractingI would say, I'm listening with very good headphones using Atmos, sounds great, best wishes 🙏

Stuart thanks for the feedback. Atmos won't be ready until June 28 which is the official launch date. The Atmos version you can find on iTunes. Cheers, Paul
