“I’ve never seen vocals go through all buttons in.” I was kind of surprised to see that too lol. Especially on the bluey which already hits hard. I normally just leave the ratio at 4 and crank the input up and it sounds fine. But of course, there isn’t a correct way to do it, just whatever makes it sound good!
Also, that thing about Deessing the backups and doubles is brilliant. I’ve honestly NEVER really used Deessers but I seriously need to. Also, I hear what you are saying about the muffleness of that backgrounds piercing through and it not making ANY sense why that would happen haha!
Brilliant video guys. This entire album is so great I forgot how much thought and work goes into making all the songs sound so damn good. backing vocals De esser is brilliant :)
Thought the same thing about comps.. I would never say a LA2A is brighter then any version of a 1176.. and all buttons in ok he didn’t know what it was doing really.. but how could you think all buttons in mode sounds like a parallel comp.. it’s clearly full on compression no blend. I wonder if this is because of only being mostly coming up working ITB more and not using the real hardware coming up.
i guess im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me.
@@max-gn6uc it's just from the audio transition between the screencast and them talking...I dont' think they've fully ironed that out yet, but I agree it can be distracting
ive noticed that on most of the URM stuff. You turn it up enough to hear them mumbling then when the music comes back on it blows your neighbors windows out
Judging by the sound of the backing vocals and how he said it's okay on backing vocals, I'm betting that the lead vocals were tuned too but not as aggressively so that it sounds natural still.
Id say pitch corrected with something like Melodyne. Autotune is more of an effect to cover up a bad singer or simply like a stylistic choice (ex. T-Pain). People seem to not know the difference between autotune and pitch correction.
Autotune is still pitch correction, but it's the name of pitch correction software created by Antares. Melodyne, Waves Tune, Autotune, and other pitch correction software all does the same thing. Gentle and natural correction, or heavily tuned and unnatural correction.
Yes, indeed. There are two general kinds of vocalists - forceful chest resonators and talky singers. The latter aren't really good singers, but may have a unique voice that ends up being appealing - and many can do this in key. The ultimate singer is someone who either knows how to work the middle ground or who naturally balances between the two. In some cases, you get people who unnaturally milk the middle ground - a classic example being any singer who has a heroin habit, since that gives you unnaturally relaxed throat musculature relaxation - something sober singers have to work for. I'm a forceful chest resonator, and if you've ever recorded one you know that you have to watch compression, what kinds of compressors are used, preamps, mic selection etc. For example, in this class of singer, you will find that many of them learn at some point that they will record better through an SM-7. It's darker on the top, and it has a tendency to not create that resonant set of hotspots that will appear at different points. Typically, there will be one somewhere between 4.5k and 4.9k and possibly a lower one in the 2k to 3k area. Mine are typically around 2.2k and 4.95k. This is literally the sound of your own nasal septum and facial bones vibrating as a sub-harmonic within the note frequency, and this will vary with the singer, the day, the humidity, the level of congestion in the singer's upper respiratory and can vary due to age. I have not figured out a universal solution, except to train myself to not always hit notes with every amount of force that I can hit, but rather to relax a bit. Too much relaxation is bad too. My formula is still an SM-7 for heavy vocals, and I use a Neuman U-87 for dynamic, low volume, high articulation work. Never Portico preamp always, and most of the time I use the silk circuit, and I try to run some opto compression, but never so much that I can't add more later.
Uff this is so random.. if you make a clip about mixing vocals ...would be cool if you can explain better and not random stuff like on the 1176 all button in is parallel comp ?!? And so on and so on .. like your other clips .. but this is no good .. he is just guessing .. and not on a logical way ..
