The STZ220 changed my game massively last year. Got me from 5 to scratch, and it's been the biggest weapon in my bag. It performs just as good or better than any driver out there and don't plan on changing.

Got to say great effort 5-0 Boom. but clubs will only help you so far. You still make the difference it might just make you feel better to perform closer to your max. Still you. But Mizuno are great clubs
@Brady8812
@Brady8812 Год назад
@@Critic606 Thanks, I mean somewhat agree it was well overdue lol. Nike Covert 1.0 was completely worthless no spin whatsoever on drives and no forgiveness. The STZ you can mishit and get away with 90% of the time, and with better tech, it just performs a lot better. The one thing the 220 lacks is ball speed I can't really top 160-165, but 300 in play and workable is way better than 320+ and in the woods.

Got a STZ 220 last summer for under $200 USD and it ended up kicking out my Cobra Speedzone I had for 2 years out of the bag. It's a phenomenal value driver that is a fairway machine. My only complaint (as it also seems with most people) is it lacked the distance. Mizuno was even aware it needed to spin less and that what the new CORTECH is the answer to. If the 220 is of any indication, I'd be excited to give this a try when its sub $300 in September of this year.

I own and absolutely love the STZ 220. I find it both long enough and more forgiving than the "big" brands. I will take my 255 carry on the fairway over 270 God Knows Where thank you very much. I have both the D and 3w. Honestly... people are missing the boat because they are LEMMINGS and buy what the Marketing and you tubers tell them, or the tour pros are playing. Mizuno could vastly improve their market share, in my opinion, cutting checks to the right players. Are they good? Damn right they are

Mark, you called it at the end of the video. When I was looking for a new driver recently I couldn't find any retailer locally (Hertfordshire) who stocked Mizuno to look at. So with no incentive to go looking, I didn't and just looked at the 'major' brands which were available.

10 years since playing Mizuno driver and am looking fwd to trying these out. Driver is the straightest club in the bag, currently EPIC max LS, don't fade it so both models s/b ok. At age 70+ swing speed has suffered and tops out in high 80's (good drive is 220/230), theoretically I shouldn't play an LS but the roll out helps a lot. Going to experiment with lighter shaft and more spin with these to see what's best.

I went to golf tec the other day to get fit. Told the pga professional that I didn't have a club in mind just wanted what was best for me. In the back of my mind I "knew" I'd leave with a Callaway or a TaylorMade driver. I was fit for the stealth 2, paradym, g430, tsr3 and 4, as well as the st-z and x. I hit multiple shaft combinations with each head. I was floored with how much better the Mizuno preformed than the others. 25 yards longer than my TM sim and way straighter than the other I was fitted for. TBH Mizuno wasn't even on my radar as to a club to try. If they get better at marketing they could make a run at the top.

Mark I should now be in Bonn Germany ( but the flight got canceled, so I go Tuesday now ) to get fitted for my new irons, wedges & possibly woods with my friend Sinjin McNab. I have had Mizuno woods in the past and found them to be quality but never had them fitted so hopefully with the irons, Wedges & woods all fitted I should find an improvement. But at 67 years of age and playing off 3 to 5 handicap I am looking for help with club speed and maximizing distance with what fuel I have got left in my swing tank. Thanks for the review. Gamed the original STZ for almost 2 seasons before it got beat out by my current driver. Original STZ was a fantastic fairway finder and had a nice high launch which at the time was fantastic but tough to play on a windy day. More people should be looking at their metal woods as opposed to just the irons.

Well done Mark!! You got me to comment…. I played Mizuno irons for DECADES. I even played their woods (driver and fairway) for years!! I now play a Srixon driver (love it) and would’ve considered a Mizuno driver but the reason I didn’t is one word. AVAILABILITY. In Canada, you can’t find a Mizuno wood of any sort, anywhere, EVER. If they had a DTC option, I might’ve continued on with Mizuno. Alas, I have left their camp and am now in the Srixon camp, simply because it was the best driver for me (from what I could swing). Keep up the good work!! Love the new logo, not sure about the wavey bits on Instafamous, but I can live with them.

Great review Mark great looking woods have used Mizuno and very nice. Currently using Titleist and my handicap came down from 22.3 to 15.3 so my lowest yet! My current golf club shop stocks Ping, Taylormade and Callaway all great brands. I prefer to support my local pro and it’s easier to try and purchase at your own club plus we get demo days with the manufacturer. Trouble is other great brands like Srixon, Wilson, Cobra and Mizuno Means a round trip of 50 miles and not everybody stocks those brands so I feel sorry that they are often ignored. I do think having a fitting with the manufacturer or your local pro is the way to go. The big 4 Titleist, Taylormade, Callaway and Ping seem to have the monopoly when it comes to stockists and perhaps ego comes into the purchasing experience.

Picked one up in December, technically second hand, but practically new for 299 EUR already. Same shaft weight as my old 2014 gamer from Callaway so I figured I could take the risk with 10 years of advancements. Love it but takes a bit getting used to for me personally as I seem to have been manipulating the (lighter? less MOI?) clubhead for a couple of years into a draw - this Z just wants to square itself up more, which is probably for the better in the longer run - just a new sensation for me.

Sold my fitted Titleist TSR3 w/ Velocore shaft and switched to an off-the-shelf, used, $230 ST-X with a Kai-li Blue shaft and the different is absurd. Pound for pound I can probably hit the TSR3 further, but the ST-X never EVER goes wrong for me, regardless of where I hit it on the face, where the TSR3 is ALWAYS threatening to come off the face with a huge slice. I like the feel and sound of the ST-X a lot better, too.

Hi Mark, great info as always. I am a great Mizuno fan and have been for a long time. My first irons were the T-Zoids some years ago and have been using their drivers now for the last six years and I love them, the look the fell. I'm sure we can all agree there is always room for improvement especially in driving. I currently have the ST 220Z, so not in a rush to replace yet but would love to try the 230 to compare for me.

Agree with T Zoid, still use the 3-5 and MP64 6-W with an ST190 driver (that hits fairways) replacing the great MP001.

Saw another review where the tester commented on the shaft length, which is 45 inches. Perhaps at 45 and 3/4, the swing speed and ball speed would have been higher.

Really like the way Mizuno driver's have looked for the last few years. I think they really turned around their appeal in that matter. Always wanted to game one for a bit. BUT I agree with what mark said they are too expensive for a driver that is just not at the top of the driver market.

One of the better looking heads put out this year. But I'm still rocking my OG Rogue Sub Zero and doubt I'd gain much.

I remember forever ago watching a TaylorMade video, and Sergio Garcia among other TM staffers, were using draw bias weighting in their drivers, and I remember Sergio explaining that it feels easier to square up the face that way to him, others said similar things like it made turning the ball over easier where they could always fade it, and others said they grew up playing a driver weighted that way and it just felt better to them. Anyway, I think people would be shocked by the number of the best golfers in the world who prefer their driver weighted that way.

I have JPX-921 Hot Metal irons and wedges and they are stellar. I’ve had many other iron brands in the bag and these are my solid gold. I’ve owned a few Mizuno drivers like ST-180 and ST-200 but they didn’t rock my world. If Mizuno wants to get a piece of the market they need to tantalize the golfers with not only superior performance, but an attractive PRICE below others to lure golfers into buying them. Pricing them sub par with the others that perform equally well will not win over many. It’s a wrong strategy by Mizuno in my opinion.

I just got an STZ220 that was supposedly a "demo" for $200. But it sure looked brand new. Played a few rounds with it and really like it.

Mark, do you think Mizuno are just not as focused on golf as we think they are? They are a worldwide company across many sports…golf, baseball, volleyball…do you think maybe they are just too much of a “Jack of all trades” and not focused entirely in one area enough?

They would need to spend to hit that driver market for sure.

I know they use a 45 in standard length in their drivers, which I like but would imagine those into indoor numbers would find speed and thus ball speed to be effected. That's if you were using their stock shafts they come with.

Mark, isn’t Mizuno a 1/2” to 3/4” shorter than Taylormade, Callaway and Cobra? How much does that matter on speed?

It’s the marketing or lack there of… I went for a fitting and I picked two brands Callaway and TaylorMade and I let the fitter pick the third. I was blown away with the feel and performance walked in wanting Paradym walked out with STZ a club not even on my radar…

I had the STG 180 or 190 and really liked it. Had the STG 220 and didn't see any discernible difference. I had the wrong shaft in it so it just didn't work as well but it was good too. These look great though, best looking ones. No low spin option this time around?

I bought it! They got rid of the grass grabbing speed pocket on the bottom! Since ST200 Mizuno have been the best driver on the market for me….. this one is even better!! My miss is a nasty hook! Early extension and flip. This thing will not duck hook! It finds the fairway on my nastiest of misshits!! Best driver on the market!!

A couple years ago when I was looking at drivers I remember really considering whatever Mizuno's was at the time because it was still well reviewed by everyone, looked nice and I think more affordable than the big 3 or 4? I had no brand allegiance or preference at the time, was just looking for good upgrades. Ended up with Cobra mostly because it had the same positives and matched my new irons and was able to get marked down more through website signup. Will say that $600 tag is RRRRRRRRROUGH though.

I'm on my second set of Mizuno irons, which eqautes to 20 years. In that time I've had...8-10 drivers. When I've gone to buy a new driver, I've just never seen Mizuno drivers on the shelf to test. Simple as that.
