I hate it personally, lol. It's one of the things I really dislike about him in MK11, the other being the silver accents. He's supposed to be yellow and black, that's it. The red is an extra color that ruins his color scheme, and the silver clashes with the yellow and especially with the golden mask.
@@Gamfluent No, but why does he need a third color on his outfit at all? It doesn't look good as it clashes with the rest, it's not his color, there's no need for it. Why not add some purple to Sub Zero? Just doesn't need it.
That's my favorite Scorpion. When it comes to MK1 he's just... idk, he looks kinda generic imo. Sub-Zero looks way more menacing in MK1 though. He's idle stance looks so awkward in 11, especially how he's holding his hands.
I will still say, MK11 was peak Liu Kang design. He looked like a hero of legend with that physique and an outfit that translated perfectly from the old games. It's simple, but so dang effective.
New Liu Kang is by far his best design. I was never a Liu Kang fan but it is my favorite design from any MK game to ever come out. Same goes with the new Johnny Cage design.
@@Mo_Murdadude stfu....the new lui kang design sucks and he look like a cheap knockoff of fujin...and u say u wasn't a fan of lui kang? Dude lui kang was literally a Bruce Lee of mk and a badass......and now he's a Boring ass fire god with boring ass fighting stance and no longer the Bruce Lee I played and grow up with ,that made him popular and beloved....even his mk 9 fire god design look better at the end of shang tung story than this his boring 2023 shit 😒🍵 .....
I can acknowledge the new concept of simplification on the design that comes with a new era in MK1; nevertheless, I do prefer the stylistic choices in MK11 for the characters. As an example, Scorpion, who had so much personality on his default appearance. 0:16 From the golden and patterned mask to the visible hood layers and texturing of complex cloth fabrics. The red accents to the traditional black and yellow color scheme was dynamic. The silver adorning the shoulder armor and shin guards was complementary. The brown belts and additional straps were minor details worth noting. The exterior portrayed him as intended, an experienced combatant ninja and grandmaster. I can commend both games for their aesthetic choices on their own merit, I can’t deny my preference toward MK11 and it’s complex garments. Well appreciated comparison video.
You just explained it perfectly , tho I appreciate the simplicity of MK1s outfits , the detailing and actual combinations of cloth, layers etc dont have the same uniformity of MK11 or MKX
I must say that I absolutely love all three Scorpions from MK XL, 11 and 1. I cant single out which one is better especially with his movesets. I used to redraw frame by frame his moves maybe that is why he is my favourite. The MK 11 is meh in my opinion. The XL and MK 1 are super good too. I really love the design of the iconic MK characters NRS did really good job.
how does he expect the mk11 characters to look good when he's cropping them into mk1s bright environment this so stupid they look way better in there own games stages i hate videos like this that exist only to slyly discredit something it's not really fair on mk11 imo
the editing is amazing, this concept is perfect for comparison videos, I really hope you keep doing it it would be very interesting to see a MK1 vs MK9 comparison
Yeah but they can make them look so much better than real people and they refuse. The tech is wasted in their hands because they seek to emulate reality rather than enhance it.
I like the comparisons if you observe mk11 Liu Kang he stance like an energetic/excited kung fu shaolin monk but in mk1 Liu Kang. He moves so little, like he takes his time and carefully moves in every step of his way since he became a keeper of time and he has no intention of changing these people are and accept who they already are in his era, but to simply guide them without hindering the humanity's freewill of choice.
@@axel8427nah actually it was way too detailed but too simple in mk11. He just looks like a regular guy which fine but doesn't just scream "Arghh I'm scary >:(" Mk1 he looks so menacing and the details make it clear that he's a dangerous mfer But he's actually a nice guy so yeah smash
Scorpion's MK11 appearance exudes his hardened, revenge-ridden warrior past, but in MK1 his appearance reflects his more noble and pure personality. (Yes I'm aware they are different people) Mileena got such a glowup from MK11. I've never seen Mileena look so incredible in any Mortal Kombat game tbh. Jax's appearance is incredible in MK1. He's got that badass late 90's look and they leaned soooo far into that. The actor is also just super cool to look at lol. Really glad Jonny Cage dropped his militarized appearance. Never liked that look at all, and honestly I never liked how closely the games leaned into Cage's family. Really glad he's back to his classic super-star ways with all that quirky confidence.
Yeah... nah, Johnny Cage's military schtick is sign of character development. He starts off being a cocky Hollywood artist into a hardened, wiser but still an actor by heart guy.
This makes me really appreciate how simplified the new art direction is. A huge pet peeve of mine with modern games and filmmaking is how overdesigned and noisy everything looks all the time
And as much as people praise Sub-zero's MKX look, I mean it is badass, but that costume is the perfect example of what you're talking about. Biggest critique is that the costume has way too much going on.
Mk1 vs Mk11 is like watching DC and Marvel Characters, one looks more colorful and others darker than the other Edit: There might have been a disagreement..
back??? was mk11 not vibrant and colorful??? im playing it now it might not be fortnite colorful but the colors pop quite a bit in mk11 i didn't know mk was known as a particularly very colorful franchise mk9 was colorful too, wait there all reasonably colorful except for mkx....WAIT MK11 IS VERY COLORFUL WTF YOU TALKING ABOUT LOOOOOL
@@YMan-zo5kg Sub is not objectively terrible. He can dish out 30% combos with no meter. Unlike in mk11 where players have to constantly use his meter and pray for a crushing low to get 40% combo.
Mk1’s Shang Tsung is great, but honestly, imo, MK11 can’t be beaten just because it was Cary Tagawa, and he’s the best Shang tsung ever, hell, you can even tell by his mannerisms and the way he speaks in MK1 they kept the touch Cary always gave the character.
Fantastic comparison video, the best yet! If the fans keep this up, I can see them doing an MK11 Skins pack in the future! They’ve already got MK11 Raiden in the game!
You can tell that this game wasn't going to be Mortal Kombat 1, it was going to be Injustice 3. The graphics in MK1, look less detailed and real than in 11, they look a little more cartoonish and a more colorful color palette. Added to the fact that many models look similar. In my opinion MK11 more realistic, MK1 more colorful (because of what they tried to do).
Mk11 models have more wrinkles and more detailed costumes but Mk1 graphically is an improvement. Stages are considerably more detailed and have higher fidelity, Mk1 characters have more realistic hair and skin reflection, Facial animations are also more expressive so overall i'm trying to see how this is a downgrade.
Is not that mk11 was more graphically advanced, the mk11 suits had more details so it gives the illusion of better detail, for example raiden had more things on him in MK11 while in mk1 he has more simple clothes, that’s why you might think mk11 had better graphics.
They look very similar to me. In MK11 it is possible to see many more expression lines on the characters' faces, but taking into account that in MK1 the characters are younger, it is understandable why these same lines are not so apparent. In terms of costumes, I think it's more down to personal taste, I think some costumes from MK11 are cooler than those from MK1, but for the most part I prefer MK1. MK1 is very beautiful, especially in relation to the depth and construction of the stages, it is really much superior to MK11. Even though the game was obviously rushed to be delivered this year (which was a mistake in my opinion), the game is very consistent and over time and if Netherrealm gives the game due care, it will make a FG impeccable.
I can’t even begin to understand how this entire video is possible, well done! I respect the more colourful, simpler designs of MK1. As cool as the MK11 designs were, it wouldn’t make sense to keep that complexity in The New Era (I’m so tired of that name). It also reflects the tone the games are trying to set, while MK11 wasn’t dark like MKX, the designs told a story of those characters from the last timeline and present. The past being more colourful, while the present was darker, edgier, and bloodier. Mixing the two together told 2 stories at the same time with each design. With this hard reset, they went back to lots of colour, simpler features. Earthrealmers are more grounded, Outworld is beautiful, the outcast set of characters are a blend of simple and complex designs, while the villains look rough and have somewhat edgier models despite the timelines simplistic nature.
Damn I be thinking I'm the only one. MK11 Did it all right. MK1 went back and broke things that didn't need fix and took away things that should've Ben implemented and improved on. MK1 is for kids for sure. They blur out fatalities scenes amd everything feels rushed. There very few varieties in combos. It's the same and so obvious That they made MK1 WITH Injustice system cause they lack the original files and packs for the characters so their stance and fighting is so awkward but they try and cover it up by say it's Lue Kang revosement when in reality it lack of production and effort from the core of the series. MK1 is a watered-down mess and obviously a hard shell of what Mortal Kombat should be and look like after 30 yrs. MK1 is a disappointment for me. It is. Sub zero dont even come off as a badass even playing with him feels flat and uninspired Scorpion too. Ther3s nothing to this game. It gets underwhelming fast. Amd idc how many different outfits the characters have ot lacks to the core why tf I wanna play with the same fighters that has only 3 combos amd interchangeable side kicks. Well injustice 3 it was gonna be the Side Kick system. Have Batman team up with Robin or Bat Girl or Superman With sid Kick Super Boy or Wonderwomen. So obvious this isn't a MK GAME ITS PRODUCED FOR IP LC AND FAST MONEY. But we know fast money is trash money. You'll ruin your name looking for a fast check js
@@unspokenconscience1869Agreed. Wisely said man MK11 was so much better, MK1 just feels too rushed and the kameos system does not make it any better, MK was always all ab 1v1's now you're obliged to have a sidekick with you at every start of the match to "extend" the combos, not to mention how klassic tower don't even have intros for characters, it's like they're going backwards in development instead of going forward.
@@scarecrow7423 guys, agreed with all of you. It's really disappointed the way the presentation is this time around based on the bar set by 11. No intro and outro options, less deep intro dialogues, no friendship, no mercy, no flawless block reversals and it's mind games, crushing blows were nice (presentation wise and mechanic wise) I would take setplay over damage any day, this two touches games are not that exciting and there's almost no comeback potential.
mk11 is a big game. mk1 is an old game they have since injustice 2, mk1 is fun to play but you can' t even compare to mk11. the industry is just lying as always, it' s in their blood
The fact that Mortal Kombat 11 has better graphics , far more character customization options and bigger roaster , clearly shows how rushed MK1 development process was - someone told Ed that he can make money just by "Mortal Kombat" name and brand, without even trying
Kwai liang as scorpion is like when nightwing became batman (he's too nice) Hanzo as scorpion is like red hood becoming batman ( everyone will assume that batman's having a bad day) While kwai liang as sub zero is damn perfection
I think the mk devs made the right move. because there is only so many times you can add more detail or upgrade the effects without doing too much. The only realistic thing they could have done was add glow to the characters and most mk fans would have hated. And they couldn’t make them ninja like always without the gameplay and looks being repetitive
Scorpion from MK11 is definitely much better in every way, designs, moves, specials, faster. In general, I think that the character designs and the level of detail and textures in MK1 were inferior compared to MK11.
Kuai Liang Scorpion looks like Hanzo from mk11's story mode, it's not fair to compare Kuai Liang with the specter version of Hanzo if Kuai Liang is not a specter
Disagree when the MK1 beta ended and I had to stop playing it I noticed how slow 11 truly is and I wouldn’t say specials are better neither I main both of them in both games and I can say without a doubt MK1 scorpion is better but MK11 wins in design
Dude it's because he base off of bruce lee you dumbass and his new mk1 self is not him anymore...just a cheap knock off of fujin .....mannn your opinion is stupid 😒🍵.....
unbias opion after seeing and playing both games... mk1 for me really doesnt hit home like mk11 did mk11 had so much life in its characters. it was super cinematic and very good to look at mk1 style is very beautiful and love the fidelity on the characters and the lighting aswell but man mk11 just had the best designs and character models then mk1
I think the issue with MK1 is that it feels like a completely different game with a Mortal Kombat skin. It's rushed imo because it was meant to be another game but got scrapped so they taped together a story and went with it.
this is excellent. Hanzo for the win. im upset this is another time line and its not the originals but that is just amazing at that little detail to have different styles that stand out and show exactly what makes them different. the story included. thank you for this video
Whatever improvements they've made to their engine, clearly a great deal of it went into the hair, because man, does it look so much better than the last game.
Scorpion is the same person and only switched his arms he bent while the 2 brothers have different fighting stances idk if that was on purpose but sick subtle design
You made me search this game up ,the cover the main character Oolong looks alot like Bruce Lee ,the final boss Blues is a mirror match who was ACTUALLY modeled after Bruce Lee...also his name was Lee on the nes version and the music is similar to MK1(1992) character select music So this is full circle!
Facial animations alone make MK1 so much more appealing. MK1's characters are so much more expressive that it's not even a contest. Luckily, that's not the only thing better about MK1's visuals than MK11. MK1 has so much better skin mapping so light and shadows from the environmental lighting just look so much smoother and tangible. MK11 looks plastic in comparison with really sharp shadows that look unrealistic. Materials on MK1's clothing are much more varied with much more realistic textures. Obviously, everything is higher res on MK1, but I won't count that against MK11, it's a generational thing. From a technical standpoint, MK1 is an objectively better-looking game, as it should be since it's a generational leap from MK11 Character design is subjective, however. I generally like MK1's designs more because they are simpler. I never liked the extra armor on the Ninjas and I thought Army Johnny Cage was a terrible design. As a General Shao main; I like the horns. I know I'm a minority in that opinion, but it makes him stand out more and not just look like a big human. I see a lot of complaints about MK1 Kano's design compared to MK11, but that's because it's obviously a throwback to MK 1992 Kano which looked equally as cheesy and terrible (as all Original 1992 MK designs did.) It's still a valid complaint nonetheless, but a complaint that could be resolved by offering a different skin for Kano. As for Idle animations, I prefer less of them in my fighting games to be honest. I think it adds too much visual noise to the actual fighting part of the game. It also looks dumb... cause it makes the characters look unfocused and overly wiggly for no reason. Like Liu Kang in MK11 looks totally ridiculous with all the hopping around he's doing. I get it Bruce Lee also hopped around in his fight scenes in the movie, but not to this extent. With that said, some of the MK1 idle animations are really sparse, like Johnny Cage, and maybe could use a little extra variation. Overall, I personally like the MK1's art direction and technical upgrades a lot. It's just a personal opinion though.
