This is some small updates to the MK3 Injection Molding machine. Much of this is based on the vise that I was able to get for machine but some of the updates can also work independent of that vise. Check out the video for a rundown of what's new and check the links below for more info on what you would need to do that same thing.

Looking forward to upgrading to a Mk4 once you have an automated vice which is easier to source. I may try PCBWay's CNC service--way more interesting to me than mintmobile, though I don't know if it's difficult to get affiliate marketing links for them.

Oh heck yeah! Excited to watch this one! I see the updated BOM, but will there be an updated kit/set of instructions? Thanks!
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 9 месяцев назад
Since again this adds a level of complexity and cost not really needed to use the regular machine and is dependent on that not so cheap vise it's more of a show and tell for now then a change to the kit. If you check out the video description I do have files in there for the wiring if you wanted to do something similar to this.

Understood! That makes a lot of sense, but I do love the upgrades. I plan to get a MK3 kit myself and learn the ins and outs before doing some upgrades like you’ve shown. I think that’s the best way to go about learning and understanding the machine best. Thanks for responding.

Have you used the double action vacuum unit and to what success?
@VastCNC
@VastCNC 9 месяцев назад
With the heat sink action of the vice, could you create an interface layer out of delrin or phenolic to insulate?
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 9 месяцев назад
Potentially, like the old Carburetors on classic cars. This might help with the cooling down of the mold but I still needed a way to heat the chambers in the first place. I actually really like those little rod heaters and they work really well. Once everything is how enough it pretty much stays there without having to constantly have them on.

Hello. Could you explain more in detail your ejection system? I understand the base idea but I would be curious to see what kind of springs you used and where and how you put them and fix the ejectors. Thanks!
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 5 месяцев назад
The ejectors on my mold were primarily placed on the runners so that I wouldn't get any marks of the parts themselves. They were pressure fit into the plate on the back and they are prevented from pushing out the back by the back plate. There are no springs on the molds themselves. The pins are ejected by the mold retracting and hitting the back of the vice. They are retracted back into the mold when closing by longer pins that hit the other other half of the mold first thus retracting the pins further back into the holes to leave room for plastic to flow above them. The only springs that I use in my mold design are for that drip plate the keeps plastic from oozing out when the mold is open.

Hi, how do you clean the nozzle when you change materials? Or at the end of production cycle? so that when you operete next day do you have any residue which might end up clogging the nozzle. Thank you very much?
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 8 месяцев назад
I usually am using the same type of material and color so I just use up as much as I can and then start it up again when I need it without cleaning it out. The nozzle is removable so you can take it off and purge the material if you want to but for me it's really not been necessary.

Hi. I had recently chatted with the owner who had mentioned they had quite a few on hand. I just messaged them again letting them know that the kits are listed out of stock. It may just be oversight of updating the stock on the website. I’ve been guilty of it plenty of times as well. I’ll update here again when I hear back.

Is there a limit to sizes you can build with this machine?
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 7 месяцев назад
The volume is 3 cubic inches. Also you may not have sufficient pressure if your part is too thin and flat.
@nickst2797
@nickst2797 7 месяцев назад
@@BusterBeagle3D Thanks! Can you elaborate on what you mean about the pressure? BTW, my item is an electronics enclosure.
@BusterBeagle3D
@BusterBeagle3D 7 месяцев назад
@@nickst2797 The thinner the object the more injection pressure needed to push all of the material through the mold. For something with flat thin walls I'm not saying that it can't make it but it's possible it will be too large for the pressure the pneumatic cylinder can put out. That's why industrial injection molding machines use tons of pressure. The most this can inject at would be around 1500 pounds of force. If you are on Facebook there is a Buster Beagle 3D Facebook group with lots of members in there with far more mold making experience then I have that could potentially shed light on if your design is possible with the machine.

if you are buying a DIY machine you might want to put it together yourself. that way if anything goes wrong you will have a clue how to troubleshoot. i am also an artist, but i have forced myself to learn some mechanical stuff. probably the most difficult thing i've learned so far is CAD/CAM for CNC milling machines. now i find it very interesting. good luck

If there could be some 3d photograpical A.I robot that could create or design STL file's or other design files for 3d drawing's or some kind of 3d file generator that would break the barrier of 3d printing and it wouldn't limit human creator's of their imaginative capabilities if there would be human creators left or needed.

It’s currently in the process of full automation. Be sure to check out the Buster Beagle 3D Facebook group to see how others have already converted their machine to full automatic. I’m in the process of testing a clamp design to convert current MK3 machines to full automatic as well.
