I install a new clutch in my 1999 Volkswagen Golf. I also handle other odds and ends including installing 2 of the 3 motor mounts I got from Black Forrest Industries. #mk4golf #mk4build #vw
These are the pressure plate bolts torque specs according to the Haynes repair manual 15 ft-lbs for 1 piece flywheel 120 in-lbs (10 ft-lbs) for 2 piece flywheel I accidentally left them out of the video.
You inspire me and give me hope! My beetle needs a clutch and I just can't pay the exorbitant price that was quoted to me by two shops so im gonna tackle it myself. I will just take my time and take pics if i need. Theres just no room in the beetle.
I don't even have to replace my clutch yet, but I'm enjoying these videos. Well put together. I think I'm ready to change my clutch come time to do it.
You didn't specify the torque specs for the pressure plate after I waited through the whole first video and part of the second one even had to wait on you to go to the store😢
@@ableFarmer-kl7vb my bad man 🫤 15 ft-lbs for 1 the piece flywheel and 120 in-lbs if you have the 2 piece flywheel. I used 15 ft-lbs. This is from the Haynes manual. I know it is late but....👍just in case you (and others) still need it.
If you havent seen em before, they make aluminum replacements for a lot of the plastic coolant adapters/tees- no more breaky breaky - hope it helps Grear vids and editing- appreciate you filming the whole reassemembly- a lot easier than when people say "ok do it in reverse see ya later" haha
Hi buddy, great video! Im replacing my clutch on my vw golf mk4 gti this week, i want to ask the 9mm 12 point bolts you needed a socket for, what did you torque them at?
Hey Maq, do yourself a favor and get aftermarket coolant flanges and fittings in aluminum. Then they won’t break. I did that to all my Mk4s and it’s good piece of mind to keep them reliable. Seems like you are slowly replacing just about everything on the car like me to keep this thing trucking for another 100k miles so it’ll be worth it! Cheers 🤙🏽
@@MaqsVids nice! I look forward to your videos on that. I did the timing water pump service on my 1.8t and it’s not crazy as long as you are very methodical. I will be doing it to my other 2 when the time comes…
Is there a pilot bearing in the mk4?? I come from mk3’s and they have pilot bearings I got my kit for my daily mk4 and i need to do a clutch but my buddy said the mk4 don’t have pilot bearings just the 1 bearing you put in
Hey man how did you manage to get the cv cups in position, I just had a really hard time removing my transmission and the cv cups kept hitting the fly wheel
I do it with the engine sitting level. Jack under engine. His engine was dropped way down, if your doing that this could cause it to hit when you lift trans up. When I do it I rotate the rear of trans differential side up almost to clear sub frame. CV cup kind of goes under and behind fly wheel I think the inception cover gave me a lot of trouble once so make sure that is removed, mine might of bent as well. Anyways. Rotate trans diff side almost upward diff in first above past sub frame than rotate down into position Maybe this will help I also remove the driver's side ball joint to make it easier to move the driver's CV axle out of the way. You may want to remove yours completely from the knuckle to give more space if you can't get it completely out of the way. This can help. Again removing 3 13mm bolts from control arm to ball joint makes it easier to move axle and take it in and out cause it allows you to pull the knuckle outward
Did you like the new mounts you used? Great video overall gave good view of a lot of stuff. Ive pulled a 02j a few times, some things that i do differently, jack the engine to where its level most of the time. The only time i lower it more is to get the axle bolts out and the bolts for the bracket to trans mount out. ( I do a lot of stuff from wheel well with power tool extentions, wobble extensions ect so lowering the engine to get those bracket bolts helps there and with the cv axles. Also remove shifter weight so it's not sticking out Also when installing it and removing rotate diff upward makes it a ALOT easier at least for me. Dont get me wrong i still struggle a bit lol
love your videos !👍🏼 many dont explain and show steps very well, I have to take trans out for a third time, Been dreading it due to how long it took to get it in hole lined up again idk how long it took you but seems it went alot smoother, hopefully 3rd times a charm🤦♀️
