Bought a TCR in Feb and love it..... Always preferred the GTI looks and this just maximises on that plus it’s actually faster once off the line..... Great car. 👍
The TCR is a stunning car, I was so close in February in buying one brand new. I went for a 6 month old R which came with £9.5k factory extras. I’m a 57 year old so R Golf is a bit more discreet. Really my heart is with the TCR but head is R 👍🏼
I understand your choice. Another discreet model is the GTI 7.5 Performance, although less powerful (245 hp). I had one and it was my favourite car ever.
The scarcity of the TCR is so appealing, I've got a 3dr model which is even rarer. Looks wise it's understated, it's not in your face. But the golf aficionados know exactly what they're looking at. In my opinion the pinnacle golf. They hold their residual values.
This has a DQ381 wet clutch 7 speed. (Same as a Golf R or a Cupra or an S3) DQ500 is exclusive to the RS3 Audi only. That has a much higher torque limit from factory (500NM) the 381 is about 400, but with a Racingline DSG TCU tune the clamping force is increased to a level where even the DQ381 can actually take well above 500. And if you have all those bits on it by now anyway then its well worth going for this and the oem+ stage 1 software too : ) Youll be pushin like 350 HP after easily
Didn't the new mk 7.5 golf r comes with DQ500 and old ones got the DQ250? Yeah I was also hesitating that the driver said it was dry clutch when its actually wet.
The TCR is faster around the Nürburgring by about 10 seconds, the TCR is lighter and has better braking capability and the TCR is faster from 100 - 200KM so the TCR edges the Golf R in performance and handling when it comes to facts.
The lower dog bone engine mount needs upgrading on these to a hybrid power flex version immediately! Once it’s fitted wheel hop and wheelspin is virtually gone! Notice when he put his foot down the car juddered slightly, do this easy mod and you will be able to get the power down fully.
I completely agree with his opinion. I had a MK7.5 Gti and changed to an R. It wasnt aswhere near as fun. Yes it was considerably faster but ona backroads and on track, the GTi is much more fun and engaging. Never sriven a clubsport or a TCR but i can only imagime how good they are.
@@michaelmich00 ye i dont understand how you can enjoy a 245hp fwd more than a 300/310 4motion. i got a tcr but i think about getting an R instead and go for stage 2.
Karl Dale, for me personally i prefer the look and performance of the golf R the 4motion is brilliant and i wouldnt now go for a front wheel drive GTI, people say its more fun but being 100% griped to the road and no wheel spin just feels brilliant when you want to just floor the throttle. But im not biased i get why people prefer the TCR🙂
Thought I recognised the plate, Stoke lad, seen this car around and it’s very nice, only seen another TCR in the Stoke area but loads of GTI Performance cars
Lovely car. I’ve had two Mk 7.5 R’s. The first was a 310hp manual without DCC. The current one is one of the last cars with DSG. I really miss the first car which was, because of the gearbox, was a much more engaging experience. The DSG car is extremely competent but is a bit like playing GT Sport on a PS4; to get a buzz out of it you need to drive it very fast; that wasn’t true with the manual box version where healing and toeing could be enjoyed to the full - perhaps I’m just an old fart. I think the perfect R would be a manual 310hp car with DCC; whether that would be the perfect performance Golf would be good to find out. I’d love to try a TCR as it appears to have the level of engagement that a DSG R lacks.
Hi Kev, I bought a TCR a couple of years ago without ever driving a golf… within two weeks an R owner parked up beside me and we took each other’s cars for a ride - I felt numb driving his R as I do with my “quick” daily electric car. The TCR was developed to be faster and feel more lively. If you’re ever in Devon gimme a shout 👍
I reckon that’s one of those things that if a buyer proper looked into it then fair enough, but to the average consumer choosing these options from new they’d probably just go with whatever style they preferred the look of rather than weight factors
Yes I agree this is the ultimate golf 7.5!!! Exterior package from factory is perfect And the work done on the intake by the owner is the best to do first
Underdog maybe, definitely not understated, the Golf R' is quite unobtrusive in comparison ,nice car though, if thats your thing. VW seem to have a very limited colour schemes in the U.K.
I really love my DQ250, but every time I see that I’m already above 2000rpm at >68mph in top gear, I wish I had seven gears. But I really love my DSG claps and sounds, my 2016 came to me tastefully OEM+ modified.
Do like these & prefer like this without the checquered kind of graphics across the door. But....Clubsport ED40 still be my fav.......but i'm obv abit biased as i own one haha. Great vid as always
Anthony. Stardard well you still paid for it but they did come standard on 69 reg onwards but 19 reg didn't come as standard .... the car in the video is Nov2019 plate which is rite cos it has no Akra
Got a Milltek exhaust for my TCR on order but can't find a single video with one on RU-vid so hoping it will sound sweet and solve the hoover problem! Great content as always.
I got a 2017 mk7.5 golf GTD... Remap it and definitely can't go wrong.... 0-60 using an app 96% accurate ive managed 6.3 seconds. plus I do lots of miles so still get 45-50mpg... Heavy footing and still get 32-35mpg. Best all rounder
Yeah totally agree, I’d say that’s mainly down to the finance options they offer for these motors, makes it feasible for even a youngy with an entry level job. Hence why you see them everywhere
Almost perfect spec Manual and wing back buckets are a no brainer Don't get me wrong dsg is amazing You just can't beat the satisfaction of heel toe shifting
So many comparisons on RU-vid and they never align across the MQB platform. Compare a base GTi to an Octavia VRs. Compare a TCR to a Cupra and compare the R to an S3.
I’m looking at buying one of these - currently have a 320bhp MK7 GTI, and I want another😂 Can anyone advise, if these definitely have the same engine and IS38 as the R, please. Thank you😎
As a GTI Clubsport owner i confess even just on a Stage 1, theres so much power at 360 hp / 450 torque that im really thinking i need a new sway bar. Coz the cars back part really sways of when flooring it.. Check the Clubsport build on my channel! 👍
Awesome insight into a fantastic Golf ...Are there any oem or aftermarket rear disks and pads to match Clubsport S front discs and pads for a 7.5 Golf R...
Agree the R is the performer but it needs some serious sexy add on's to lift its blandness , ive got a Clubsport which looks good but TCR is a real looker .
Hi Luke, Having done some checks, I'm of the belief that other than the drilled front discs, the drive line and technical spec are pretty much identical to the Cupra Leon...same engine, same diff, same gearbox, same DCC etc. Have you heard any different?
I wouldn't compare this performance to a golf r - simple reason - England rains ALOT - this wouldn't see which way a golf r went off the lights and back roads on wet roads and that wheel hop is annoying.i do like the styling though !
Lovely car, and for a FWD car, it's plenty fast enough. The main thing I think it excels at, is handling, as it's lighter and more balanced than the R. I really like them, just not in this colour.
We still have not got the TCR down under. At a starting price of over $51k plus on road taxes, it would be very close to the golf R which I see is still listed at $58k to $62k here in Victoria. We are still in stage 4 lockdown so dealers are not getting stock or trading.
Totally get where you are coming from with this being top golf (in terms of all round, overall spec). Share the same opinion with it being a 5 door it just looks slightly better than the run of the mill golf R. Same reason I would take the golf R estate over the hatchback any day of the week
The fact this guy is constantly trying to justify a TCR over an R show's enough... really is not in the same league. Enjoy your wheel spin while watching an R scream off into the distance!
Let's be honest the tcr does everything the R does. The advantage of the R is the world AWD in car history... they could have do so much to own that AWD system but nah... so the R sucks through corners. U compare it to an RS or a WRX not even the STI... then what u have is an over price R... then need to do more... these guys where pioneers in this class.... first ever front Diff too
Problem is though every man and his dog have got a golf r, they are everywhere! After owning a gti and then upgrading to an r nearly 3 years ago, the r may have been faster but the gti felt way more engaging and fun! The r was fast but felt boring.
I have the same car, same color. On mine I have the R600, H&R springs, the Akra, steel braided brake hoses, and Vertinis RFS1.1 (brushed titanium) in 19.
Alex g I've got a 7.5 r myself and not got a bad word to say about the tcr... shits on the r looks wise and just as quick in the mid range I've come from fwd performance cars and fancied a change id happily buy one of these.
@@garethhooper3658 Finally a reasonable discussion. I feel the same as an S3 owner, I personally prefer AWD for the way it puts the power down in any weather, but I'd have no regrets buying one of these or a clubsport S.
Yeah I'm loving the awd for exactly those reasons love launching off the line with no wheel spin lol but when it comes down to a proper drivers car the tcr and clubsport s have won it there 👍
Heard the same however surely one could argue an e-diff is still mechanical in terms of end result. Maybe the “e” aspect is more responsive compared to purely mechanical? Haven’t tried both myself however
Twincam that’s true, I haven’t tried an e-diff either but it would bug me to think the brake pads are getting worn by the e-diff everytime I corner hard.
