@@oskar6661 Brother some a tiny percentage of the entire viewcount. Same like the ABC people tryna force everything on the rest of the world who don't take it so seriously. It just doesn't happen fella
If you want to be exact, the R32 has a VR6 engine, not a V6. It's important, as without the VR concept, Ferdinand Piech would not have dreamt up the W12 (2x VR6 in a W) and W18 engines and the W16 Bugatti Veyron would never have existed.
@AudiophileTubes - Not really.. that engine internals are VERY WEAK, can't run even 0.6bar of boost. But.. with upgraded conrods, pistons, bolts, valves...there are HUNDREDS of vr6 turbo outhere. only in few eastern countries (serbia, bulgaria, hungary, romania) i knew about 50 vr6 turbo conversions from 470bhp to 1600bhp.. 😂
I briefly owned a 2006 MkIV Golf, bought as a 'scruffy-thrashable' interim car, whilst i was saving like a madman for my 'Dream-Car' . . . . . It was bl00dy amazing - and i kinda regret selling it (which i did, & even then made £900+ on its resale too!) Had it for 18-moinths and it never went wrong, or failed on me ! 10/10 car
Protip: If you want an R32 for cheap, buy an 8P A3 3.2 Quattro. Basically the same car underneath as a MkV R32 but way, way cheaper because they're not as well known. I've had one as my daily for a few years and still loving that VR6 sound.
For those who go this route and decide to modify the motor, keep in mind it is NOT an R32 engine. 8P 3.2 engine is code BUB - R32 is CBRA, mostly the same but with one crucial difference, the R32 has a forged crankshaft, A3 is cast. If you want more power, get a forged crank!
@@EVoMVP Where'd you read this? I've looked everywhere online and can't find a single source that says anything other than all of the 3.2 vr6 engines contained a forged crankshaft.
@@WithCars9 I don't know the case anymore, but I do remember Yanni having some sort of back injury, so I don't think it would happen, hopefully he is fine now though
You guys are the only suitable replacement for old top gear, brilliantly entertaining and full of enough car knowledge to keep us all up to date. I adore this channel, it means a lot to me ❤
i've seen this in like every race, matt is just a really good driver, he rarely gives a fuck about the cars and just bangs through the gears, it's refreshing to see.
R32 modded? With N/A engine? and what an increase? +8Hp and 15 Nm Torgue? No no no, look at the engines specs R32 0-100 6,6 sec. Mk7 GTI 0-100 6,4 sec.
14.7 seconds 1/4 mile time is about right for a MK4 R32, it's not modded. R32 MK4 always launched hard. The 0 to 30mph time was always pretty impressive, that's where the MK4 won the race. And yes in a rolling start you'll see the Mk7 just leaves the MK4 behind, so you can say the MK4 is slow. the MK4 always was fast from standing start 0 to 30 and that's what people misunderstood. In the wet the difference at launch would be even greater
The glorious R32! The first production car to feature DSG transmission. Match a pair of snails to that engine and you have the only car you will ever need. The sound of the VR6 engine is one of the best sounding of all times
Well in the meantime the euro decided to basically implode, that probably explains part of it. Also a lot of useless crap you have to pay for in the mk8..
Unfortunately, many VR6 engines scattered the power downwards. They very rarely had the horsepower that they were supposed to have according to the factory. But I would prefer an R32 to any GTI or Golf R. The sound alone is divine. And he's not slow either. Slower than the newer models, of course. But then a lot would go wrong if the newer models were slower. But the Mk IV R32 is and will always be a legend.
Wonderful race. Can we have a drag race of all the top of the range BMW 3 series? Eg. E30 325is, E36 328i, E46 330i/ci, E90 335i, F30 340i and G20 M340i... non M. Just for vibes🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 thank you
Here in Brazil we have the Jetta TSI Highline which uses the third generation EA888 engine with turbo and 211hp and DSG6. For us, it's just an intermediate sedan, without being sporty. In other countries I believe this Jetta is the GLI. Could you bring this up in a video.
R32 was the first mass-production car with DCT (In VAG world it is called DSG, Porsche call it PDK). Source: Wikipedia: Dual-Clutch Transmission Porsche developed their own DCT for racing prototypes and Audi later used it in their Audi Sport Quattro S1 everybody knows from Group B rallye. Before that it was used in some British car but it wasn't too reliable as the proper technology for such a complicated gearbox wasn't even available yet (year 1961).
LOL, 5:24 . . . Matt steals the hit, gets a better launch, and drives away . . . I was dying laughing. This was fun to watch considering I came SO close to buying a brand new R32 in 2008.
The R32's VR6 is legendary. It is not that superfast but sounds gorgeous, reliable and a real driver's car. Everything else after ~2012 is either luxurious BS or a can.
I definitely figured the mk7 gti would pull away top end, still fun to see the Mk4 R32 hold him off in the 1/4 mile. I've been daily driving a mk4 r32 for 5 years now and it's been great, and yes those seats are some of my favorite ever!
The MK4 R32 is the original 'R' vehicle, I loved mine, not the fastest but the sound 👂❤️. The UK didn’t get the DSG (the MK1 TT 3.2 did), which was odd. R32 with a Miltek and a map makes a difference! The Konig seats make the MK4 R32!
The Mk4 R32 is the best looking, most satisfying 'Golf platform' VW to ever come out! That car exhudes quality through and through! Imagine if VW kept the VR6 and strapped a turbo on it?! Back in late 2002, I purchased a 2003 GTI VR6, not knowing that the R32 was going to be released. If I had known, I would have purchased one! However, after 22 years of ownership, my GTI VR6 is still my daily driver, and still puts a smile on my face! It hasn't had any major mechanical problems, and has been as reliable, if not more, than a Toyota! It still has the original timing chains as well, which blows my mind! When I went to Europe recently, I saw Mk4's everywhere in Greece and Italy! Which for me, doubly attests to the fact that the Mk4's were built like Panzer tanks, unlike the cheap shit junk out now! VW.... take note!
We need a similar old vs new but old to have a nitrous party piece. The face on sam when matt hits it just before being passed. This would get so many likes.
The Mk4 '337' special edition GTI was the BEST looking GTI of all time, hands down! That car looked so perfect and so German, you could hear Deutschland's national anthem coming out of the exhaust when it drove by!
I would really like to know how my audi A6 with ~300ps & 420Nm of torque would perform against those cars. It got more power and its AWD but its heavier.
Matt with the driver mod. Unfortunately they heat soaked the F out of the cars behind the other guys terrible launches otherwise I think the GTi is the clear winner across the board. Not bad for the old 2002 32 though!
