Arc spaces + key board shortcuts + the COMMAND BAR (Cmd + T) = Top 3 Game Changing Features I actually look forward to opening up Arc and separate all my interests into separate spaces, dividing my tabs into its appropriate topic. Hey Josh and the rest of the Arc team. I absolutely love Arc and am using it everywhere I go. I understand that with your Swift-everywhere approach, Android might be hard, but not having at least some way to sync my tabs over to Android affects me daily. Global mobile market share says that Android is the dominant mobile platform, so not having any support there will really constrain your growth. And the tension here will grow exponentially when you put out the Windows release
@rjpearson
@rjpearson Год назад
expanding on this, if they release on Android it might allow them to do a ChromeOS release which would further grow the fanbase. Right on MKB's team, David was using a Chromebook and releasing on the Play Store opens up that option for him and others to make the full switch.
@starkT98
@starkT98 Год назад
I think it would be a good opportunity for this company to do what even chrome is struggling to do that is to create a seamless transition between all the devices on which you use ARC. So for example some of the features such as the saved tabs, or spaces, can really be a gamechanger when it comes to communication between android and windows.

I usually say this: It let you create different spaces with different accounts and histories, one for my company, one for my podcast and one for my daily use and I don't need to log in and log out from each account plus, the attention of small details is insane. But if I have to be honest I don't think that Arc solves the problem of the tabs. I still have a lot of tabs opened and the vertical layout does not help me either, I'd like to have small previews instead favicons and titles that most of the time don't help me to understand if I need that opened tab anymore

The easiness to set spaces for your personal, work, and side job is the main thing I told people the plus point of Arc. The other thing the immersiveness since Arc could make you feel like using a native app with the sidebar hidden without having to download the real app Usually I switch back to Chrome after 1 month trying new browser, but it's a solid 4-5 months now with Arc. I love Arc my few reservations are that sometimes the page does not display correctly even thought I thought it was Chromium under the hood there must be some differences sometimes. But a particular aspect I struggle with is the lack of a page loading bar in dev mode and not being able to refresh the page without using the keyboard shortcut apparently? Otherwise love the fact spaces can be set (an improvement to this would be to actually separate the signed in sessions between spaces so that we can log into different accounts) and another feature is clearing tabs by itself, really needed. A really good nice to have that I use a lot is side by side views. Thanks for the hard work you've been putting on it 🙏

I really hope you end up porting it to Linux and Android. It seems to me that, even with just Windows, porting Arc to a different language and toolkit (maybe Kotlin and QT like many apps or GTK like most browsers) would be easier than porting Swift to Windows in an actually stable way, and that would also allow for a much easier transition to other platforms. Vertical tabs in browsers like Firefox are really nice, but Arc seems to add some really nice extra features.

@linuxsbc

@@eruno_ Because not all Linux users are resistant to using proprietary software. For examples of groups of Linux users that might want to use it, look at Steam Deck users and Chrome OS users. Personally, my reasons for using Linux are complicated and hard to explain, but they're related to things like tiling window managers and choice between desktop environments, not it being open source.

@@linuxsbc I understand and mostly overgeneralised, but I think the fact still remains that majority of Linux users are more into privacy, open source than any other user group. I think he is struggling to explain what’s great about Arc is because the use cases for Arc are not readily apparent. I’ve tried Arc for a few hours and found that the adjustment time to be too high. My biggest issue with Arc is that its trying to completely overhaul how we use a browser. I would have preferred it if all the new features were built on top of a traditional browser experience and I hope that The Browser company takes that into consideration. Without an initial sense of familiarity I think only the most hardcore or niche users will put in the time to adjust to Arc. It has some neat features but Marques’ comments about theft of unprotected features makes a lot of sense. It won’t be long before people try to take what makes Arc unique and build extensions that reproduce those features in Chrome.

Arc is freaking awesome! I really love it! It makes me feel like that first year or 2 of chrome before it got bloated and stupid. I hope that Arc just keeps getting better and better. The feature set is awesome, and the fact that it has frequent improvements is amazing. Bugs and features get fixed and added pretty dang quick. As far as features I use, I love the spaces feature, and the air traffic control to go with it. They really streamline browsing when I am working. My work and personal hardly ever blend.
