As the MKIV Toyota Supras continue to climb in value to the level of European exotics the average automotive enthusiast has been priced out of the purchasing range of all but the most badly used and abused versions. So if you wanted a 2JZ-GTE Supra, what's your best option? Well in our opinion, it's swapping out the 7M-GTE for the younger heart... in this cars case a JDM heart. However, with that new found turbo power there's a safety situation that needs to be addressed.
With a brake system designed to stop 250 horsepower or so they were we'll say "adequate" at the time but with some significant power increases … well they just aren't up to what a modern driver will need to keep it safe under spirited driving or track use. What are your options? Well there ARE big brake kits out there from some aftermarket manufactures but they are quite pricey, for this build we are choosing to get a little creative and use some factory Mercedes Brembo parts, Stop Tech, and Power Stop pieces to craft a 4 wheel disc brake upgrade that will slow this 80s rocket down properly.
In this video we walk you through the process completely from tear down to completion as well as giving you a parts list of what you will need. We even included the typical complications a DIY project would encounter to give you all the entire experience.
We hope this is both educational AND entertaining, we here at Lucore Automotive are always here to help! Leave a comment or question if you like and we will gladly respond!

Hey guys, what brand of hub centric rings did you guys use? And how much material did you have to lathe off in order to get the rings flush with the rotors? Thanks!
@pier-lucbegin534
@pier-lucbegin534 5 лет назад
Very nice video guys, what are you going to do with the hubcentric ring of the disk. Mine sticks out to much, it needs to be flush. Thats where i stopped. Tried to cut one and i f-up, So now i have 3 left would like to now how to do it without screwing up, are yours thin enough for the wheel or other hubcentric ring to seat properly
@LucoreAuto
@LucoreAuto 5 лет назад
That an extremely good question, and in our situation needing to use more than one and of two different sizes it's a little extra challenging. We turned down the inner centric ring on a lathe in order to get it to exactly the same depth as the rotor. That way when the second ring goes on it sits flush and will allow the wheel to sit perfectly. In the parts part of this video you'll see a short clip where we have both rings on the rotor, if you pause it there you can see how much material was removed in order to get the proper fitment. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Would you guys be able to add a part number list to the parts required? I see lots of variations of this mod but very few actually posted a video. Great job on the video as I love seeing mkiii stuff. I plan on doing this to my mkiii, but don’t want to buy the wrong parts.

I think once this project is all wrapped up we can definitely post an "All in what it takes" kind of video/list. There are a TON of little pieces and things to be done to get this right, and you are totally correct you want to make as few missteps as possible

What thread pitch are the bolts for the caliper and length, and is the caliper a 330mm ?

We actually used 2 different sets on this car, one for the brake rotors and another for the wheel. Guessing you are referring to the one to make the brakes fit?
@doomkid02
@doomkid02 4 года назад
@@LucoreAuto yes for the brake rotors. Got the r350 rotors coming in the mail today actually. All r350 rotors should be 67.1 correct?
@LucoreAuto
@LucoreAuto 4 года назад
@@doomkid02 The ones we used were from European Motor Werke and are a 60.1 ID to 66.1 OD. Now with that said, the actual ring is considerably deeper than what you need and unless the center bore of your wheel is a 66.1 you will need to machine it down to get the depth correct. In our case we used that aluminum spacer for the inside to space between the hub center and the brake rotor, then another phenolic spacer to adapt from the hub center to the wheel our customer had chosen.

all i can find is that R350 uses 5X112 lug pattern. Does it really fit the supra? or there is difference between R350 models?

How are the 5x112 rotors able to fit the 5x114 bolt pattern?
@MoparMarqG
@MoparMarqG 3 года назад
The Mercedes uses a lug stud with a larger diameter. So each Supra lug sits slightly off-center (outboard) in the rotor lug hole, but with the centric ring on each rotor to center rotor on hub, it doesn't matter. Stopping force is transmitted evenly across each lug stud, and across face of rotor hat by clamping force of lug nuts on the wheel that's mounted. Furthering the argument/need for full engagement of lug nut threads

New rotor option is available: Mercedes V-Class. No washers needed anymore. And to be honest I'm surprised you guys only used one washer with the r350 rotors, needs atleast 2-3 to center the rotors?
@LucoreAuto

We didn't have much of any issues getting them centered up and fitting correctly. Interesting option with the rotors, is that with the same calipers? Same center bore so will use the same center adapter?

Final thought. You might want to add a warning about cutting up the abs to get to the lug nuts. (You called it a heat shield in the video) Those who didn't delete their abs system might still want it to work 😂
